Imo Curry has always had more of a sneaky, unassuming aspect to his handles, while with Kyrie you know you're about to get crossed up and just hope you have help back there.
you meant to say overrated. But you got cable yesterday so I understand where you coming from. Pete Maravich, Earl Monroe, Isiah Thomas, White chocolate, Hardaway (Tim and Penny both have moves that Curry is yet to replicate!), Kemba, Steve Franchise, Dancing on them Lance, Isaiah Thomas, SkiptomyLou, J-Crossover, Nash, Iverson, Cp3, Harden, SGA, PG13 have all handles equal to if not better than Steph. Kyrie & Luka are god tier, because contrary to prime Harden, when Dončić get's you on a Island, you better hope a tsunami will erase you from being stranded in the first place, Luka much like Ginobili has unorthodox shifty hips, second best footwork behind his team mate, all time somewhere behind Hakeem, Kyrie, MJ and Ginobili
Curry looks like he's standing and running in a vertical posture, and seemingly dribbles more up and down, closer to the body. Kyrie looks like he's crouched and slinky, with the ball going more side to side. Honestly, by comparison Curry looks more stiff and mechanical compared to the more fluid and dynamic Kyrie.
Omitted the famous nationally-televised shot where Curry dribbled through four LA Clippers and made a turn-around 3-pointer, with Kerr throwing up his hands in exasperation. Also left out the double behind-the-back where he dropped Chris Paul and made a baseline shot over his prone body.
Kyrie's handles move him, Steph's moves his opponents. Irving penetrates and Curry creates. Both incredibly underrated finishers, literal artists. My preference is Wardell, but Kyrie's natural ability for handles is akin to his born talent for shooting. Still nothing more entertaining than watching Steph play though. He does things that simply shouldn't exist
I want to challenge the way you are interpreting what you are see.... they are overplaying Curry because of his shooting reputation (He the goat 3 point shooter). That's called running a player off the shot. Its easier to cross up a player when they are deathly afraid of you getting 3 point vs 2 point. If we played one on one and I said the handicap is the 3 pointer for me is worth 5 point but its just 2 for you....I knock down two 3 and now I have 10. Every hessi I do will have you jumping. That is how you get a defender to treat you like you are Curry. If you want to see how it feel to be feared for your jumpshot like steph Curry run that experiment. But that's what makes his handle deadly...you have to overplay him to stop the shot and you get crossed up. But with Kyrie, they are not overplaying his shot. They just cant stay in front of him in any capacity. Both are elite ball handlers but notice that Kyrie is taking less dribbles to get to the rim in spite of Curry getting overplayed by the defense while Kyrie is not being overplayed at all.
@@martelljhixson makes no sense because they are playing to the rules of the game not made up rules. Can’t fault him cos his 3 point shot is the deadliest ever
@@martelljhixson You can't take away his dribbling capabilities because of his 3 point shooting, he still has to make space for himself, kyrie is also a threat on 3 levels the defender can get faked from the paint all the way to the 3, if steph lives at the 3 point line and never drives players will fall for his dribbling he is a good ball handler.
@@da1boij284if u only have to worry about his drive u won't fall for fakes or hesi, that's how that works, but Kyrie still gets to his spots no matter what. 90% knows Kyrie is the goat in handles, u jus more of a fan to curry
People forget about Steph's handles because of his otherworldly shooting, but he and Kyrie are the two best ball handlers in the NBA. Seems to me that Kyrie uses his dribbling skills to get to the basket, while Curry uses his to get spacing to hit a three pointer. Both are amazing!
@@steviechampagneright equally is a understatement to be kind. Kyrie change of pace direction an to stop/cut on a dime going full speed with a basketball will be documented after he retires. Curry handles are not even top 5 ever honestly
@@zVlayybro curry is a hibitual screen runner coupled with really good handle Kyrie is literally a dribbling Servant. Ask a basketball coach who handle is better or any bball trainer. It’s not even hard to see
@@cixiri3278 sure, but I know you’ve seen type of lays and finishing around the rim Kyrie does. You saw when Kawhi literally blocked Kai’s shot mid air and he still made it. Can curry do that?
@@malachid3107 Pop it out your mouth. Yeah he’s a great finisher but he’s not better than Kyrie. There’s no way you see some of Kyries finishing and say Steph can do that. The finishing Curry does, Kyrie can do. But the finishing Kyrie does, Curry cannot do.
@@CamUchiha because I'm not a casual. This is the star effect. Example? There are many NBA players that can dunk or handle the ball better than LeBron, but the overall better player and talent let it look good. Is Luka a top level ballhandler? No, but Very good. He just has a very high Bball IQ . The game is slower for him, so he accomplish more. That automatically looks great. The attention is than bigger. There are many guards with better ballhandling, but there are just less talented overall, so the effect is not there. Sam Hauser is a shooting machine, but he will not look like a Luka on dropping 3's. IDK if you understand my point. A skill is one thing, but you need to bring it on. Amen Thompson or scoot are great ball handling talents, better than Steph, but the game is too fast for them they could not bring the ballhandling to a point with a effect. Dsj is also a great example of talent, that couldn't make it effective.
@@silipfala8715He's kinda right, when people are debating about a skill they're more likely to only including stars. For example if we talk about rebounds, a lot of people won't talk about Andre Drummond, even though he's a MONSTER when it comes to boards. But putting Scoot or Amen over Steph gotta be dementia lol
Kyrie's handles are more flashy. Steph's are more efficient. So looking back some of y'all clearly don't understand what I'm saying lol. They both have God tier handles but it takes Steph less dribbles to get to his action...hence him being more efficient with his dribble.
THANK YOU! Someone who knows ball. Steph can do the same moves but it goes against Steph’s 2 move rhythm while also expending far more energy. Kyrie handles are reactive to your defense while Stephs more like a lullaby to put you to sleep just to create space for the shot or drive
Curry’s handles are different from almost everybody. His peak speed in game time is always at a speed where he can control and change direction. His upper body posture is very consistent over his base of support, always ready to launch and release a shot. Just watch him. I can see a silhouette of him dribbling and know who it is just from the posture. Steph’s foot movements seem to stay very constrained, I think he trained himself to not move in ways that are likely to injure him, because he had lots of ankle injuries early in his career. Kyrie has more and faster moves, more creative moves to get to the basket, but his shooting percentage on any given “similar move” is lower than Steph.
Stop it steph was hardly shooting any midrange pullups. Kyrie was taking tougher pull ups in the post. Steph takes more dribbles than kyrie to set his move in the paint.
@@Kidlynno that doesn't seem true whatsoever, when your considered the greatest 3 pt shooter of all time people overplay you on the 3 leading to a single crossover that takes you the rim, kyrie is not overplayed as much as steph so he has to do more to make more space
@@da1boij284 if you watched critically. You will realise that kyrie does have to do more to create space but he uses his body movement more than wasting too much time on dribbling the ball to be unpredictable. It terms of energy effeciency steph is better since he doesnt have to over extend but kyrie takes less dribbles when attacking the basket or setting a midrange pullup.
@@JOnePro251 Kyrie has a career .393 on a volume of 6 attempts a game. Steve Kerr has NBA career record of .454 but that’s on volume of 1.8, and had several seasons shooting > .500 on volume of 2.9. Low volume shooting 3p percentages are different. Because if you’re shooting only 2 or 3 a game, you’re only shooting wide open or even wide open corner 3s, which inflate your percentage. Steph is career .427 on a volume of 9.2. If you average his seasons shooting less than 8 a game he’s closer to .440+. Seasons he’s shooting 10+ a game he’s still at .410+ Kyrie has a career EFG of .538 and TS of .582. Curry has a career EFG OF .583 and TS of .627. Those are the career efficiency numbers of an elite center. The only high scoring perimeter player who comes close to Curry’s offensive efficiency is KD. KD is at .551 efg and .620 TS. KD gets this based on superior 2 point efficiency because he can get a clean jumper at will in midrange, nobody can block him. Kyrie does have much better handles than Steph. KD has much better 2 point efficiency than either. KD leverages his height and Steph leverages his 3. Steph has far more gravity than either, and he has far higher motor, off ball, making him a much more impactful offensive engine by disrupting defenses.
Curry is one of the best EVER at dribbling, he creates space, he sneakily moves around the floor "weaving through traffic", he protects the ball, Kyrie attacks the defender. Curry gets himself a shot, Kyrie gets himself a layup. Like Kyrie just goes at you, Curry just makes space or slips past you after sizing you up or going through a tight space
I dont known much about basketball but my fav ball handler was iverson. The way he moved was smooth, fast and efficient. And steph reminds me of him. Steph moves very smoothly. He is not aggressive. THis is what i like about how he plays. Its like watching zidan, messi or pirlo play.
The thing people never really watch the progression of players. During the 2015/16 season of GSW VS Cavs, I watched Kyrie being guarded by Steph and my eye test instantly knew that although I loved Steph's shooting, Kyrie had better ball handling. Fast forward to recent years 2019 - 2022, Steph has elevated his game to point where his handles can be equally matched to his shooting prowess. People stay stuck in the past and don't follow the progression. If people watch Steph's training videos he has been working on his handles and drills religiously. Even Draymond Green said his finger flicking touch is magical and elite but most people probably don't notice. Kyrie is still great, but I haven't honestly seen much progression from him from the Cavaliers days - which might also be due to the fact that he's injury prone as well. It's not a knock on Kyrie, but people just need to understand that there's progression with constant training and Steph's routines are known to be the most disciplined and tough in the league. PLUS, he has to do everything through more traffic than Kyrie which says a lot about their levels.
yea so true, and also, curry had some really unbelievable moves pre 2015, he could do more stuff had he not injured that much in his early days. between the two, Curry's always the one that puts more weight on his shoulders if you know what im sayin...all the responsibilities and doubts and lockeroom managements, he just can't go all out one man show and stuff, u get what im sayin? in his mind there's more thoughts and cares than just dribbles
not from this video tho, i know kyrie has more fansy moves but this particular vid shows how creative curry is, kyrie on the other hand, seems a bit repetitive
Kyrie's drives to the basket are explosive and crafty thus expelling more energy, Curry drives with more finesse reliant on dexterity over explosivity thus expelling less energy, he is also the better shooter so defenders HAVE to respect his shot which makes his drives much easier and less taxing. Both are equally great finishers who just use their handle in different ways.
Kyrie put wemby on his back on an iso, took him to the Baja and finished under the rim where literally every other player would have gotten swatted, and u have the audacity to call them equal finishers?? Curry fans r beyond delusional
"numbers tell the story" spoken like a true casual. U can't seriously be trying to argue that steph is as skilled a finisher as Kyrie man stop it. The degree of difficulty between their attempts isn't in the same stratosphere. Why even try to make this a thing lol? Kyrie CLEARS off the eye test alone. And u can't bring the numbers into consideration without accounting for the fact that Kyrie STATISTICALLY has the worst whistle in NBA history, so those percentages don't accurately reflect his finishing ability anyway and he's still has god tier efficiency.@DiosanXaquerry
@@JKk-bc9ql ' Kyrie STATISTICALLY has the worst whistle in NBA history,' yea, please show me that stat cause career wise both average 4.3 ft attempts. steph is pretty well known for not having the star whistle also.
Least FTA/g by a player averaging 25+ PPG in a season in NBA History: 3.5 - Calvin Murphy (1978) 3.6 - Kyrie Irving (This Season) 4.0 - Kyrie Irving (2021) 4.2 - Stephen Curry (2019) 4.4 - Kyrie Irving (2022) 4.6 - Kyrie Irving (2023) 4.6 - Kyrie Irving (2017)
Curry has a higher efficiency at finishing to the rim then Kyrie 🤡 but try again. Talking like this still 2018, that argument doesn't exist anymore. Curry owns Kyrie 🤡
I think Kyries handles are faster flashier and more creative but if u watch the video again and analise the amount of space currys handles create compared to Kyries u will se the difference between a point guard who has the "best handles" and a point guard who might be "The Best"
It’s not even flashing , his game is such an art that it just seems flashy. I can tell everyone in these comments don’t really watch basketball like that.
Ones layup package is far better than the others and handle is the best of all time and it’s Kyrie. Even other nba players said he has the deepest bag ever.
Kyrie has more of a eurostep in his game. What most incredible, and most similar, is their finishing ability and english at the rim. Interesting comparing their handles at this stage of their careers versus the '14-18 era when both handled a little freer. Curry's dribbling in particular has tightened up and oriented toward efficiency and specific moves/countermoves, as well as getting into people's bodies, over the past 3-4 seasons. I think it was AI recently talking about how Ky likes to play with people more -- he likes going Uncle Drew on folks as much as scoring/winning imo.
Well it appears to me that on a nightly basis Steph has more people gurarding him than Kyrie and is Kyrie being guarded by the toughest defender this year or is Luka?
Kyrie has nice handles. Steph has pretty handles, makes it look so smooth it gets you thinking that you can actually do that, when you actually don't. It's creativity on the move for him. That's why he surprises himself even at times.
@@TheLunzDen you're delusional. Steph was a negative defender but if you watched the 2022 NBA Finals, he held his own against JT. Steph's gained a lot of muscles in recent years and he's definitely the better defender than Kyrie. And saying Steph is just a better 3 point shooter is completely wrong. Steph finishes at a higher rate near the basket, draws way more defensive attention and he has the gravity that no one this league posses. It's "Kyrie is just a better ball handler".
Agree Curry has a much higher shooting percentage. Kyrie i think has a better handling when it comes to getting to the rim. But not often shooting. They’re both similar just different styles.
It's so hard to find sensible fans of the game. Curry should've never been in this convo, then you got his fans bringing up his rings and resume to justify his HANDLES, man what 😂
@@Yute01Curry is without a doubt the better ball handler it’s obvious. Did I get you with that first sentence? 😂 As a curry fan, kyrie is definitely way better at handling but I will say one thing. Curry is very close to the same as kyries ability in creating space other than that, kyrie absolutely clears in handles but since curry is such a 3pt threat he focuses on creating space more. That’s all but yeah you are definitely right.
kyries seems to be a lil bit tighter,he can break you down on minimum space and for kyrie you notice the footwork,he never travels,in stephs case his handle creates more space, but you see him turn it over or travel more frequently cause its more loose, but more unpredictable .. kyrie got like every move you can imagine and more
I also noticed that out of all the nba players with ‘bags’ Kyrie barely if ever travels when he’s hooping. Majority of these modern guards travel a ton *cough* Jordan Poole
As a point guard, these were the two guys that influenced my game the most growing up. I always wanted to shoot like Curry and handle/finish like Kyrie. Superb talents. Best shooter and best ball handler of all time, amazing that we get to witness these two greats. Love when they match up against each other
How is Kyrie more skilled when Steph has almost the same handles is a better shooter better scorer better passer better leader smarter better rebounder more assist makes zero sense
Ky has the best handles in league history and looks cool ah while doing it but to say you can’t compare steph who is top 5-10 is crazy. Idc what anyone says that time steph crossed Chris Paul who was behind him then hit the 3 with defence draped on him was the most disgusting sequence I’ve ever seen. Put some respect on Steph.
@presidentialkingdom2201 cp stepped on his foot that's why it looked so embarrassing and curry does have amazing control. However not even Strickland comes close never mind curry Irving just looks better.
I think Stephs shooting is so over the top, people just don’t pay attention to how good he is at dribbling and driving the lane. Similar to his defense, which has gotten so good. Just watch him 1 on 1, he makes the defender take tough contested shots. Unfortunately due to his height they can make some over him but he contests the majority of the time.
Difficult comparison, i notice that Curry has better handling in open shots (creating space). While Kyrie is more faster and better handling to the rim. Both are similar when it comes to handles, just different play styles.
De lo mejor que e visto los dos son los imparables de la NBA ojalá sigan por muchos años más por qué su nivel de manejo del balón no lo tiene nadie más
Curry haters who are saying Curry handles are just to get his spot or for a 3 pointer. Obviously didn't watch this Video or never watched Curry play at all. He clearly gets the rim. And show a play where Kyrie gets dribbled thru 4 defenders and scored.
I love the curry haters in here tryna say curry’s handles are overrated and then claiming they know ball. Flashy doesn’t mean good. Kyrie is an amazing ball handler because of his ball control not cause his flashiness. The flashiness is just a bonus. Curry also has amazing ball control which is overlooked by the 13 yr olds because it’s not flashy enough
Y’all don’t see it but also Curry most of the time has 2-3 ACTIVE defenders on him and is pressured full court, while Kyrie mostly does 1-1 through multiple defenders My opinion is Curry’s dribbling has developed to be the more effective, cleanedt and with better IQ.
Both elegant but have different styles and purpose in facilitating scoring, playing to their respective strengths: mainly Kyrie’s layup game & Steph’s 3 point ability.
This is why the game is so beautiful they're essentially doing the same thing but it's night and day different. For me it's like I'm looking for something crazy from Kyrie and with Steph it's always a surprise
If you notice Kyrie drop his dribbling pose so much that he almost touching the floor, by this way he create much speed and acceleration. Curry just like standing while dribbling he do it effortlessly😱, and if he drop his handles like Kyrie, the speed, acceleration and dexterity will increase🤔
Kyrie has the best handle in NBA history but Steph isnt far behind. He can do damn near everything Kyrie does it just looks different and kyrie is wider and loser with the dribble making it look more flashy. Id say Steph is more textbook and efficient keeping the ball close. Ready and able to shoot after every dribble.
3:50 Bro... Anyone who doesnt have Steph AT LEAST #2 all time just dont understand how to analyze what they are seeing in screen. This video is actually amazing Ive always had Steph and Kyrie tied for the best but after watching this, Steph definitely has a slightly better handle. Kyrie has some of the best body control ive ever seen but as far as purely what each can do with the basketball, Steph definitely has the edge
Steph and Kyrie are 1a and 1prime. No idea how curry gets left out of these convos. I love A.I. but hes solidly #3. Steph's not as fancy but hes even more precise For the last 10 years Ive compared them to Gin and Mugen from Samurai Champloo (Rest in Power Nujabes ✊) *SPOILERS for an amazing show check it out * Gin is a cool calm collected Samurai and Mugen is a wild man with a one handed sword who does friggen caopiera in sword fights. Both crossed swords for the first time and each were surprised when they stalemated. They both murked 100% of their opps before this moment Gin is like Steph and Mugen is like Kyrie. Completely different styles but both are leagues above anyone else
Kyrie has a more flashy handle package to break through the paint, meanwhile Curry has a more simple yet effective handle to create an opening for his shots. They both are god-tier, hence why Warriors vs Cavs were so exciting to watch. I'm picking Curry though
These days you don't need a flashy moves you need to shoot the ball to win. The first basic and important fundamental of basketball is shooting not dribbling.
Kyrie's handle is more individual and you know he's gonna ends the play, whereas Curry's handle is quicker and follows the rythms of the play to create opportunities for their mates.
Let me just say this Kyrie Irving has some great handles BUT STEPH CURRY ALL THE TOOLS HAVE ALL THE TOOLS AND HANDLES 1 OF THE GREATEST SHOOTERS OF ALL TIMES AND HE HAS ONE OF THE GREATEST HANDLES OF ALL TIMES 💯💯💯
Maybe because of his physicality and athleticism kyrie's handle it's more explosive and fast. But Curry handle looks smooth and has such a pace and rhythm that seems like he's playing music with it and that creates an aesthetic motion that it's so pleasing to watch. Kyrie's explosiveness but curry's aesthetic motion makes him more pleasing to watch. Both Greats Though.
That was not as far away from each other as I thought. The styles are definitely different though. Curry's trying to create shots and Irving's trying to get to the rim
Just the title of the video made me appreciate this because people acted like Curry doesn’t have an absolutely insane handle. No way he’s getting those shots up without having the ball on a string.
