I had a similar trip to the hospital after doing the same. Cutting down the same plant (called "Fire sticks" at Hammer barn) while wearing gloves. Wiped my forehead with the back of the glove and a minute later the sweat+cactus juice was stinging my eyes like all hell. Had to get a ride to the hospital after washing my eyes for an hour did nothing. Apparently the sap is latex based and most normal methods of irrigating the eye are not effective. They are everywhere in Perth gardens, businesses and verges and I get a PTSD episode when i spot them. They should be banned from sale.
Hammer barn 🤣🤣 it was pretty scary and painful. Def got some flashbacks to my stroke. I've never experienced that kind of pain, we even called poison hotline 😅
