I think the real tile looks much better than the fake stuff. Using the white grout was very smart, too. It hides any imperfections in the placement of the singular pieces of the tile. Great job! The important thing is that YOU ARE happier with it!

I really like the way the tile looks. Quite unique. The carpeted step area will complete the look. Good choice. Also, I noticed the intricate wood carving on the drum you are sending to your mom. It is a nice gift. Mom's appreciate any gift from their children, from wild flowers picked in the yard to homemade cards. Ember sharing a gift of chips with her dad during the live was precious.

I just realized that the weird part of the steps is usually covered with cabinetry of some sort. I love the way your work turned out. It was definitely worthnthe time and money! Thenwhite grout was really smart as far as making the awkward part disappear. Well done!

Indoor/outdoor carpet on step only would catch a lot of dirt & wet as not to drag into van. Easily & cheap to put down & change out as needed. Also would be a cushion for any toe stubs, or chins for Ember.

I used to live in Oregon. For several years I was on the Oregon Coast. On a sunny day, it's spectacular, but those days are few and far between. By the time I permanently moved back to California, I was so tired of it always being cold and gray and rainy and wet and moldy and all the houses smelling musty. It was actually depressing. As beautiful and affordable as Oregon is, I could never live there again. At least not year round. I love that where I live now just North of San Francisco, I can garden year round and we get sunshine and blue skies almost every day.

The tile looks great. I would not put a carpet on the step as it is just a dirt collector and is prone to mold. Paint the step as you mentioned and I think it will look great and function much better

Looks great glad you went with tile then that false stuff also i wouldnt put carpet down unless you get the stuff for indoor outdoor use because you have to think of mod and dirt getting onit and then mold that can grow in carpet that you would use for your house so if you use carpet i would make sure its for indoor outdoor use and it has plenty of air pockets to that it wont hold water dirt and mod and is easily cleanable especially with a toddler but wow you have done a fine job so far keep it up and before to long you and ember will be traveling cant wait for that video to come out and happy birthday to your momma may her day be blessed and filled with love and hugs

Make sure you seal the grout especially with that being a high traction location that could see a lot of water. Definitely don’t want anything to mess up all your hard work. Looks so much better even though that was a tedious job, it was worth it.

Rubber backed industrial rug cut to size that way it wont slip on the original step when getting in, and can easily be removed and washed with a garden hose or at a self serve car wash.
