I crashed my bike in the most ridiculous way... 

every UK based cycling youtuber sooner or later ends up doing a collab with Rob the carbon expert, it was destined to happen

The number of times i've lost concentration and almost rode into the curb or a parked car has woken me up to ALWAYS look ahead.

Use it as a learning experience for sure. It shows even an experienced rider can have an accident, happens to most of us! Fortunately you are not badly injured so hopefully won't dent your confidence but you will know for next time. I've had similar scrapes where a moments inattention can be costly. Also, good for you to own it. Far too many would try and make an excuse to blame something/someone else. Stay safe.

Hi Federico, hope you're not too bad now. Hope you don't mind a bit of advice, at the moment your frame looks fixable but the strength of a carbon frame is in the triangles the top tube is compromised, if the top tube gives way (which it could) then the whole frame will collaspe from the bottom bracket, you could end up seriously injured and the frame will be unrepairable, you really should consider using another bike until that frame is fixed.

Glad you’re ok Federico, mistakes happen it’s human nature. I had a weird crash at the end of January and now 8 weeks later have an infected bursa of the left elbow, my bike was completely fine but I can tell you I would much rather have the bike damaged than me!

This was an important video. I too have experienced about four crashes over the years that in hindsight could have been avoided. Hats off that you were back on the bike the next day. Typically I am off the bike for at least a week.

Lesson learned - Concentration is number one 😊. Good that you are ok. My falls have been because the clipless pedal … I was not fast enough to unclip 😅 .. twice!

man sorry to hear that! yeah these types of poles can be not that visible when riding. specially we can see lots of them on trails (to block vehicles get into trails) and they cause many crashes like you. Hope we can find a better way than polls on trails to prevent this type of bike crash

Frederico, it happens! Hope you will get over it soon. Last time I flew off my bike (front wheel went deep into a muddy gras section) I took my daughter as inspiration. She went down from her horse while show jumping and broke her arm. Even with that broken arm she insisted I put her back on the horse to do one final easy lap because she didn't want to be afraid of it next time. It's all fine again. 😉

Hi Federico, as I mentioned in strava comment I would suggest to stick some reflective stickers on that post to help others avoid the incident, and personally I would adjust this route to avoid that place if possible. Hope you will fix your frame properly. All the best!

i had a simular crash with one of this bollards. crashing can mess with your confidens. i am realy carefull in the rain because of crashes and i think with most tires it gets very slipery, i experienced it even with schwalbe G1 tires..... at least its good that you are ok! and i hope your bike is repairable.

Great vid, I also damaged my bike in a similar way. A company in Leicestershire repaired it for me , CBT Coalville Ltd. made my bike brand new again.

Nosey crash is what I call those. I had two in 20'. New course, interesting roadside crap. Nowadays a safe rail trail, bears,raised planks of wood on bridges, cracked some ribs on that one. Be safe!

I had a similar fall where I hit a pole similar to you with the side of the handlebar. My frame cracked same place as well, top tube. However, I broke clavicle and a couple of ribs. Consider yourself very fortunate that it was only the bike and. Carbon can be repaired. I had surgery and was out of commission for several weeks.

The important thing is that you are ok Federico, and still riding. But to be honest, I'm surprised that post stayed in the ground considering your strength, and Im sure its still shaking. I wish a speedy recovery to the bike. It would be great if we could watch the operation and treatment together with you. (I know that some processes about it can be secret.)

I did the same thing in Battersea Park in November. I saw a barrier far too late in the dark when travelling fast, just managed to dip the bike, but flew off. Bruises for me, smashed Di2 shifter on the right side for the bike. Also, Gatorskins are called “Skaterskins” for a reason; they are awful in the wet. From my wife’s experience, they are not great at protecting against punctures either.

I feel your pain, literally, I too fell off my bike filming one handed at about 45kph I panned my phone & the bike followed off the road into snow! How is it in a country that seems always overcast, the British haven't learned about contrast & bright colors. Pipes like that here in the USA are always yellow. I hope you recover quickly and be carefull when panning! (could be worse, I had a concussion, cracked ribs a broken collar bone and had to be medavaced!)(taken by helicopter)

The damage is really unfortunate Fede but definitely Rob from carbon bike repair & his crew can sort it for sure . If not it’s the perfect excuse to purchase a disc brake bike 🤣. Hope everything works ok in the future 👍🏽

I had a similar crash in mid January, when I was commuting to the studio in Berlin. Very bad weather, poor visibility, atrocious wind but I still feel pissed off with myself. Bike was OK, but I was quite bashed up when I crashed into a building works sign at 32 kph. Some kind pedestrians help me back up. I used to ride DH, sponsored rider....Erm I feel quite embarrassed. I Lost concentration for less than a second. Chalk it down to one of those things mate, I glad you are mended. Now let's both try not to be silly anymore. Blessings from a Brit in Berlin. ❤️

Don’t feel too bad. I was riding at dusk. Bike lane in the street in one city goes up on the sidewalk at the border of the other at a very,very busy intersection. I was focused on the traffic that was in the right-on-red turning lane, a car was easing forward, distracting me from where I was going. Lost my a sense of where I was and pedaled full speed into the curb as I was rushing to make it across a 8 lane street. Over the handlebars I sent ending with my collarbone broken and my carbon Isaac snapped in half laying next to me. I recall thinking before crashing that I should just stay in the street until the next driveway. Oh well.

this is why we don't ride the bike lane. Difficult to see obstacles. You will never have bollards on roads.

Ex Gatorskin Rider. Untill 3 weeks ago, Cero issues. Than slipped on wet road while cornering probably too fast. Broke a little bone in my hand. But most importantly, the bike is fine! Got 32mm grandprix all weather now. Elite Suto meanwhile. Animo! Be safe.

I hit a bollard a few years ago down a alley way and my friend hit one on cycle path last month when he looked down at his Garmin at the wrong time, his left lever was smashed and a warped disc rotor

Frustrating situation but main thing is you're okay and still able to cycle. Could have been a lot worse with you flying off your bike. Ouch. Looking forward to the next rant! (not sarcasm) 😂

We all do this as some point. I managed to clip my brake lever on the end of a hand railing going into a subway. Very painful smashed finger! Having a couple at the pub beforehand may have had something to do with it! - LOL

...that's a real shame....yes I ride the same route daily and I have noticed that the attention goes somewhere at times...even to extent that I cant remember anything about a section I've just ridden...familiarity robs focus....and often the mishap occurs on something that really only needs simple, basic attention

I know that place very well. I never mount the pavement there as there's no good spot to rejoin the carriageway. I take a left up Grasmere Avenue then go down Robin Hood Lane to get onto the cycle lane on Kingston Vale. It's impossible to make that section work as a cycle-friendly passage; the junction is just too busy. I don't know why they routed it down there.

Bollards should be bright yellow!.. and frames should be aluminium.. Keep smiling Fed 👍

similar happen with me 3 years ago in Cornwall, the only difference is the frame is aluminium, only some scratches, and into today I no knows what really happen.

If it makes you feel any better, Federico, two of my cycling pals did exactly the same thing in different incidents. I wasn't there either time, but next time I saw one of them he was wearing his shorts and the bruising was so severe that one of his legs was black - not even black and blue, black! Never seen anything like it. According to those who were there it was spectacular - he flew for quite some way before he landed. Just hit a bollard on a cycle path, though, same as you. The other one was looking over his shoulder to check for traffic and hit the bollard even though it was on his commute, the way he went every day, so he knew it was there, he just forgot. Either my pals are idiots or it's easily done - I suspect the latter! At least you can heal but the Canyon can't - hope you can get it fixed.

I broke a finger on my right hand last year, by crashing into a litter bin along the River Thames. Off of the bike for six weeks. Not nice. I've learned from my mistake. Happy riding...

It happen, 12 year ago I crashed with one barrier in the route for return at home, after one moment of distraction for pick the phone from the pocket 😅

really sorry about the bike Federico! Bones heal, carbon frames not so much. Well, not without external help. (I've had the same happen to me.) It strikes me (no pun, hopefully) that those bollards are really badly placed! I don't know the reason for the placement - it's not as though speeds have to be controlled on such a short section. Overzealous local planning?

Well, you could blame it on the idiots who put up those posts in the middle of the bike path. Glad you didn't break any bones. Look at it this way: your bike now has character.

I hit a live skunk late last September on a rural, dark road. My headlight was on and I absolutely saw it crossing in front of me but it was too late as I guess the light stunned it a bit and it stopped moving across my path. I went down and the damage to the bike, and me, was done.

I missed a dip in the curb when crossing the road and ended up planting my face on the sidewalk. Ambulance, stitches and three weeks in the neck restrictor. Shit happens.

If its a shared use cycle path you should still put a complaint into the council. At least describing what happened. I can guarantee it will happen again to someone else, perhaps with more severe consequences. I am speaking from experience with automatic rising bollards, which have since been removed after my claim against the council

You can't be too hard on yourself, if you spend enough time on a bike something is bound to happen, not matter how cautious you are. The main thing is that you weren't badly injured, it could have turned out a lot worse. For me, close calls come in bunches and indicate that I need to recalibrate how I'm riding. That's for me and in no way a comment on your riding. Hopefully you can find a good carbon repair shop and salvage the frame.

I think your bike is fine, carbon frames are stronger than some people want to make you believe. Those look just like scratches. Yes, cycling is very dangerous hobby. Never ride faster than 25 km/h this way you will reduce chances of accidents and more severe injuries. Of course never ride on the road in a traffic with cars.

Never film yourself while riding use a go pro in the chest. First advice. The trend of filming with one hand while filming deserves a ticket.

Not sure you can avoid losing concentration or doing stupid things on overly familiar runs. I wouldn't worry about it too much if I was you.

Not your fault that councils put in dangerous infrastructure like bollards where they want cyclists to go. These bollards could be painted in hi viz colours but no paint them dark. Try getting past bollards with panniers on loaded with shopping - impossible.

Not all your fault? Putting posts at the end of a shared bike /pedestrian path needs to be eye catching and of sufficient width apart not to be dangerous? What is the purpose of the posts? Surely it's to stop cars driving up them , not to catch a cyclist that makes a slight mistake?

Fred it happens to the best of us my friend so try not beat ya self up about it too much ok as i lost a front 50mm carbon Prime Black Edition disc rims when i hit a pothole & then went arse over tit, burst front Continental Gp5000s tire & cracked front rim but as always Fred your ok & we live to learn....,have a fabulous day my friend 👊🏾👍🏾
