Accidents happen, that’s why they’re called Accidents. I don’t think anyone was being reckless. Stuff happens and blame can be shared. But some of the comments on the thread seem as though there are a lot of “professionals” who’ve never made a mistake. Glad you’re ok man. Heal up and get back out there smarter and wiser!!

I am happy that you are OK and God was guiding your slide. WHEN I ride staggered, rider one is Always on left. In the same circumstance, he would have crossed in front of you, making you slow down, or you would have gotten in right lane first. Also...sena or cardio are awesome for group rides.

I have 4 very important opinions about this video: 1. Your Situational Awareness wasn’t too sharp at that moment! 2. You need to “Ride Your Ride” and not think about how much you trust other riders! 3. You obviously didn’t have a proper “Space Cushion” between you and what was around you to give you time to react. 4. You haven’t mentioned anything about what YOU could have done differently! You talked a lot about what others should have done, could have done, but what about you my guy?!? What better should you have, could have or would have done to avoid this crash?!? 🤔🙏🏾✊🏾✌🏾 Stay safe out there and I hope you get well soon! ✌🏾

Sorry Bud, but it's not rider one mistake, two things, 1 you ride your own ride, 2 you never pass on the right. The job of the rider is not to worry about those behind you. It's your job to pay attention to what you are doing and where you are going. Just because he switch lanes don't mean you switch.

Sorry, but rider 1 should have seen him in his mirrors before he moved back. That’s why why the require mirrors on vehicles in the first place. Put yourself in a car and someone cut in that close you would be yelling you stupid mother f….er! He may not have avoided rider1 even if he didn’t check his blind spot. That said we were not there so we don’t know, at 60 or 70 mph things happen fast. Both made a minor miscalculation causing a major accident. Ride safe, God love you, & check your mirrors!!

Sorry young man you had a huge mistake Never take your eyes off of what’s in front of you. You stated you turned your head. That’s why you have mirrors. Never take your eyes off someone your riding with
@stephenweaver5936

When u change lanes do gotta turn ur head to look make sure it clear mirrors do have blind spots that's how u get ran over from behind u can't always trust the mirrors.
@RollWithSoul317
@RollWithSoul317 Месяц назад
You MUST keep your head on a swivel when you’re riding because a vehicle could be in your blind spot before you change lanes, your mirrors don’t show everything! If a driver is rolling up on you very quickly at a stop light 🚦 and they don’t see you, then you should briefly turn your head to gauge their distance and then use your escape route to get the hell out of the way!! Keeping your head on a swivel is a very effective safety technique! Please don’t rely on the skills or “so called skills” of your fellow riders!! Instead, “ride your own ride” according to your own skill level and experience! Thinking that you know what your buddies are going to do, can get you “all messed up” in a split second! Fact. 😎👍✌️
@definitelydoing
@definitelydoing Месяц назад
No, you don't put total trust in mirrors when changing lanes. Head check.
@davidherringgo
@davidherringgo Месяц назад
Fisheye mirrors 👍 no blind spot = no head turn.
@Backtothehat
@Backtothehat Месяц назад
Nah, disagree. You cannot simply rely on mirrors. You must do a head check before you switch lanes, along with checking your mirrors. Bikes have blind spots, too. You must not drive, or ride to claim someone should never do a head check. That said, keeping a good distance between what’s in front of you is crucial.

Devin, take it from a rider in the first category, ( I went down in 1981) I'm so glad you were smart enough to wear a good jacket and helmet. I have ridden the last 40 years very defensively. I still enjoy the solitude and therapy of riding, but I steer clear of group rides, and make sure my bike is well-lit and I'm free of distractions. I shattered my left ankle, and didn't ride again for a while to get my mind right. The love of riding never leaves, but your perspective may be different. So glad, you're safe, young man. Ride safe and God bless. 🙏🏾🙏🏾👍🏾

Devin, I'm glad to hear that you were not seriously injured in the accident, however, but listening to you, I believe as well that it was your fault, not rider 1. Here are some key points that I took away from your comments: 1. Riding a staggered formation, good job on that part, and the distance between each bike and speed should be taken into consideration. 2. I believe you were riding to close to rider 1. Instead of predicting, I think a better choice of words is anticipation. You have to have a plan even before you start riding, anticipate what the other riders, drivers are going to do, or what will I do if I need to make an immediate evasive maneuver. 3. You should always take distance into consideration. The touring motorcycles are much heavier than the sport bike, and they don't maneuver as well. 3. Remain calm. I believe you panicked when you saw rider 1 come back into your lane. Once again, you were too close, I believe speed was a factor as well. YOU ALSO SNATCHED THE FRONT BRAKE, AND THAT'S WHY YOU WERE THROWN OFF. Now what can we all take from this accident, always give yourself distance, be aware of your surroundings, we need to be a defensive rider, we need to anticipate what the other riders are going to do even before they do it. Thank God you are still with us, and I know that your family was very concerned about your safety. Remember, those big touring bikes don't maneuver like sport bikes. It probably would be a good idea to take a motorcycle defensive riding class as well. Stay blessed.

Glad you’re okay. I’m in a club and we do this exact same thing. Once some “signals” be it lights or hand signals the lane change is going to be made otherwise wave it off. Another technique is to let the second or third rider check and hold the lane until everyone else makes the lane change

Rider one didn’t make a mistake he made an unexpected move. You made the mistake my guy. Gotta watch where you’re going to make sure it’s safe before you make your move. I also don’t like how close groups ride together. It doesn’t leave any space for adjustments or unexpected moves. Hope recovery goes well

Hey man glad you survived the unfortunate crash. I've followed alot of your posts on RU-vid. That's the inherent danger of us riding. However, after listening to your details of what happened, no offense but sounds like you were the one at fault. Correct he should not have crossed lanes and switched back. On the other hand, if you had allowed more room between the rider you were following, the accident could have been prevented. As a former law enforcement officer, after listening to your explanation, you would have received a ticket for trailing too close. Once again, I'm so happy you are doing well. You are truly a good person. Be safe.

Devin....so sorry about your accident. Fortunately you will be ok and back riding before you know it. One thing you kept mentioning in the video was that Rider #1 'failed to communicate' what they were doing, etc. Did Rider #1 and the other riders in your group have a Cardo on their helmet ? My group always ride with them and it allows us to always communicate our movements on the highway. If Rider #1 had a Cardo and didn't tell you and your group what he was trying to do, IMHO he really shouldn't be leading your group. Glad you are ok! Get well soon!!!

Hey Devin, I'm glad you came out okay Buddy. I see a couple of things that I would have done differently. First of all, you said that when driver one moved to the right you started to move to the right and then looked back. I would have looked back first before I started to move over. And My group rides staggered also but when we change lanes we start from the last guy in the back. He changes first and then we follow one by one up to the front guy. Everybody rides different but you should always check both in front and behind you before you attempt to change lanes. I'm not judging you, but I would have done things a little different.

I’m glad you’re here to talk about it. I’m sorry about your beautiful RG. I know it’s typical, but I don’t like staggered riding formation that’s close together or side-by-side at interstate speeds. There isn’t enough time to make corrections. In first position, I wouldn’t change lanes to look ahead; instead, I’d slow down to give enough space to see around the truck, then decide if it’s time to change lanes. Take care and be safe. God is good!

I’m glad to hear you are ok. I watched you collect that bike with your dad and I watched the videos on the trip. I do have one concern about this video. I have had a crash on a motorcycle but wasn’t injured very badly. What I took from it was I was 100% at fault for the accident. And that is something I think you need to do. After that I went and am still pushing training and practicing on a regular basis. When you ride a bike you take on all the risk of riding and never cede control of what happens to you to anyone else. And that is part of the thrill of riding. Lastly please go get more training and don’t ever stop training. Bless. Love the positivity you exude!!

These guys will slow down on the HWY to around 40 hogging two lanes then speed up to 90 while changing lanes with no warning. I been riding 30 plus years and very experienced, I just dropped to the back and let them act a fool.

Glad you made it out OK. I went down on gravel and was thrown from my bike. The drivers were mad that I was concussed and couldn't get out of the way fast enough. Luckily a couple pulled behind me and blocked the traffic from rolling over me. What I did to get over that incident was take the same route again. Unlike you I remember everything. It was only at about speeds between 20 & 30 mph and I remember being thrown and hitting the ground and saying to myself is I'm so happy I ride with the correct gear. I felt my spine hit and I've had spine surgery in the past, so that always concern me. Then the helmet was a full face and I than myself for wearing it. And the most terrifying part was trying to get up and not understanding why my body wasn't responding. It was like I was being pinned to the ground by GOD. They kept saying stay still, but all I wanted them to do was pickup my bike. I had to jump start my nervous system. I pulled off my helmet and my head felt like a thousand pounds. I threw a tantrum banging my legs and hands to the ground until I was able to get up. Then I walked over and picked up my bike with help of course. Luckily the crash bar took the beating with some foot controls being bent up. When the cops came they asked ne what I'm going to do. I said ride home and that's what I did. They help bend out my shifter lever and off I went. I actually rode another hour home and of course the family was not happy to see me banged up but was happy to see me with all my body parts. And yes I had the bike fixed and all the parts were just replaceable. This would make the second time I've gone down in over 20 years. .

NOTE: If you guys are riding staggered formation. You need a designated Road Captain (lead bike) and a Tail gunner (last bike)..... Road Captain wants to change lanes, the turn signal is initiated and it gets passed on and back to the tail gunner. When the lane is clear, the Tailgunner will then move over and close the lane. Once the Road Captain sees the Tailgunner has locked off the lane, The road Captain then moves over into that lane, and the trailing bikes move over into the closed lane, one by one like Dominoes! Good luck to you guys!

You get to be one of the two kinds of us now. I am glad you made it, Brother. Live to ride and ride to live. Sounds like you learned what the lessons came to teach you. Remember them and ride like it’s all a matter of staying alive. It gets easier.

Brooo we waiting on the follow up, how is your leg doing? How did you go flying on the interstate and have so little injury, you MUST have been wearing proper riding gear..(leathers CE 2 armor) Respect man, It can happen… I have to look over my shoulders too bc I have no mirrors so this video will make me be way more cautious so thanks man

You got lucky! I ride with other bikers and some are guys I ride with often but it's different when I roll with my HOG chapter different riders all the time. I might reconsider that. Thanks for sharing your experience.

I absolutely HATE that this happened. Glad you're Good tho!! The bike is replaceable you are NOT!! We have to do our very Best to Stay Safe on these Roads. This is a very Dangerous Hobby/LifeStyle that we partake in. I Pray Before, During & After my Ride. Again, glad you're Good Bro!!!

Thank God that you are okay and still with us, but that why most of us long time riders stay away from group rides. Things happen riding solo also but you have to know the skills of the others the bigger the group the more risk. Heal fast God bless you.

Years back when taking my motorcycle training class the instructor told us that he would never do group rides because of how the risks were within fellow riders. Anyone can make a mistake and cause situations like yours .

Motorcyles are replacable, riders are not. Your very lucky to be alive, thank God and keep riding. Next time you ride in a group you should set some rules like riding staggered, only passing on the left and always communicate a lane change with a bliker. These simple rules can save lives. Nice to know your OK.

Glad you good man. Importance of safety meeting and riding style when group riding. Leaders lead by following the sweeper. Look into roles and positions - education will help prevent recurrence.
