Oh the 1830s, a time of plaid gowns, huge sleeves, and outrageous hairstyles.
In today's video I am trying my hand at creating a towering 1830s style with a combination of braids, apollo loops and extremely curly bangs!

The first time I ever saw 1830s hair was in the 1999 miniseries of Wives and Daughters. There are some scenes where the family is chatting in their sitting room on normal days and you can see them working on their hairpieces that you can later glimpse in various party scenes. I just remember going WTF when I first saw them but now I think 1830s fashion has its own unique charm. Not sure I would go to the grocery store in 1830s hair though haha

That’s awesome! One tip that might help is if you take a diamond section, and braid that, where you want the Apollo loops to sit, it may be easier to anchor the hair pieces. It is also easier to manipulate the rest of your hair around the pieces after that.

I love this video and the hairstyle! I did want to mention, when setting curls or any other style in synthetic hair, it isn't the drying that sets them. It is the cooling that sets them. One old trick I have used for years with synthetic hair is once you take it out of the hot water, immediately dunk it in cold water (or run it under cold water) and the curl is set. Since synthetic hair is plastic, heat makes it pliable, while cold makes it stiff and set. Once dunked in cold water for a few seconds, you can dry it if you want, but I usually take out the rollers immediately and then let it air dry, which doesn't take very long. ;-) Your style came out great and thanks for the video!

This looks SPECTACULAR! As someone who absolutely loves making myself elaborate hairstyles full of braids, flowers and other decoration just in my daily life (I'm also known for going on walks in spring and summer and coming home with my hair full of flowers), I'd never truly considered the absolute treasure trove that is the 1830s and other historical eras when it comes to hairstyles. You have definitely opened my eyes. Can't wait to see you in this hairstyle PLUS an appropriate dress!

To set curls on synthetic wigs/hair you can also use a steamer, just make sure that all the hair is saturated in the steam and then let the curls set over night. I also prefer to use curlers that are hollow/the granny type , so that you can get steam in sideways and make sure the innermost hair on the curlers are saturated
