The audition process begins to find a Nancy and Oliver for the West End show Oliver. Spot familiar faces like Katie Hall, Samantha Barks and Rachel Tucker before they found fame in the theatre world.
It's amazing watching this years after it aired and thinking those kids auditioning for Oliver are so adorable and small, when in reality I was even younger than they were when this was filmed and they're all grown now!
i wished she could have been a judge, if georgia brown (the first ever stage nancy) was still around, i’m sure that they both would have, they’re the original nancys
Katie Hall at about 23:00 and 34:00. Not a "Nancy" but what talent! 2 years later she would be Cosette to Samantha's Eponine at the 25th anniversary concert, both 19 years old then (17 here).
My sister and I were in the audience for somewhere over the rainbow. It was amazing. Also I managed to touch A L-W's arm as he walked past and was ridiculously star struck by it 🤩🤩
This show brings back so many memories! I’ve only realised now that Samantha Barks who I’ve just seen as Elsa in Frozen and Rachel Tucker in Wicked (one of my favourite Elphies and in Come From Away!) had starred in this Sat night show I was hooked
Rachel Tucker went on to play Meat in We Will Rock You, her standout role of Elphaba in Wicked alongside Louise Dearman, eventually becoming the longest running performer to play the role both in the West End and Broadway and recently, she played Beverly Bass in Come From Away both once again in the West End and Broadway before COVID hit last year.
Yup. As was the case with the other shows in this format too; after all, if you're truly serious about wanting a career in musical theatre, you can't just throw in the towel after losing a competition like this when you can use the experience as a springboard. That's a big reason why I miss shows like this (besides just wanting more musical theatre content on TV), they were absolute goldmines in terms of exposure for performers (both established and aspiring) regardless of whether they ultimately won the role.
I used to think when I was a teenager (not that long ago) why I liked theatre so much and I couldn't put my finger on it, then i realised I grew up with this show and the other one webber made.
coming back to try and finish this series (Got distracted first time around) . Me around the 23 minute mark: Oh... it's the Cosette from Les Mis 25th anniversary! I'd seen that video before watching this and was wondering why she had looked so familiar. She's now in the promo's for the National Tour in clips where she was Fantine at some point as well. Even though I know she didn't make it past the boot camp this worked out great for her. Even though I know the results (and hope my brain will forget who the winners for Joseph and Maria are by the time I eventually get to those videos), still awesome to watch the journey of the winner (whom I will not name for the top spoiler) and a runner up ... was also in that 25th anniversary concert and the movie itself.
Anyone else watching all these ‘finding ...’ series through 2021 lockdown? I’m really really hoping there’s every episode here for this because let me tell you, watching up til episode 10 of something only to find the last episodes are missing/blocked in this country/copyright struck etc etc is one massive pisser 😫
I've never known anything in my life with more certainty than when I watched this live and *knew* Jodie was gonna win... 100% knew and made sure to tell everyone
