What an amazing space and fireplace. And what potential. Rebuild the chimney and restore the fireplace. You could put a woodstove in for cooking and heating. Bedroom and bathroom upstairs. An amazing studio to rent out. Good luck with this project. It is safe in your hands
Isn’t it, tho? ❤ I think this is a perfect place for a workshop. He can store his wares in the new loft and have his tools below. Great business venture. WOW 🤩
I can hear your mind thinking, Sean, all the way to Minnesota. And your final solution will be perfect...It's always nice to digest a bit over a week or two or three before the final plan is attempted, then with adaptations along the way, according to need, pocketbook, supplies, etc. Perfection takes time, but in the end it comes together. It is with brains like yours that gorgeous homes will last forever and be the envy of all!
Despite the disrepair, that last cottage is just so awesome. The historical sense of it all together with the potential for the future use of the space - are rather moving!
Your videos are highly entertaining for me. Your expertise, knowledge is wonderful to observe. I enjoy your descriptions of the work that you are doing and teaching your viewers. Your dialogue and videoing is spot on Sean. Keep up the good work.
All in all the space looks to be a good shape! I know you have your hands full with the current jobs you've outlined but it looks like the end cottage would be straight forward!! Thanks for giving us a glimpse of the next stage of renovation!
That's another one of Sean's mindbenders, he's never been in the end cottage before, but he has put in all sorts of architectural bits and pieces! Maybe he's got a double in a parallel universe?
Taking out that straw ceiling won't be a problem. It looks like it's about to fall down anyways! LOL Once that area has been cleared out, you can use it as a storage room while fixing up the other areas. Thanks for sharing your day, Sean. 👍
Could imagine dancing old country dances in that big room. Add a mezzanine with small tables and or a space for musicians. People need gatherings Sean. And we all love imagining. Such a great space. Saving the best for last ❤️
Very good video again. Lots of good potential in this cottage. Working out the repairs as you film! That's my man. It's a gift of knowledge that allowed for that. Natalie says hello to Sam and yourself.
This end cottage appears in better condition (other than the roof of course) than the areas you are currently working in. As you said, it will make an exciting project in the future👍🏻
It’s suddenly looking cold there Sean. I’m stuck in Singapore here, so I forgot how the seasons change there in Europe. Hopefully Sam has got you focusing heavily on insulating the family home when you’re not dealing with your other cottages 👌
The end cottage has a truly medieval atmosphere, it's amazing & fascinating! Just an idea & not trying to teach Grandma to suck eggs (lol), as you're the expert: would it be worth considering putting a log burner in the fireplace of the end cottage rather than having to rebuild a complete stone chimney? It would look & feel just as cosy.
You will get a better return on your money in the end unit if it were a rental. Anew workshop would accommodate newer type tools to build or renovate for as long as you like. I'd prefer a chimney and wood heater/ stove. Keep the age showing a bit in there.
When you tired the end courage, i noticed that vertical timber in the attic that looks like it's leaning. I think it looks like it's come away from the ridge timber and is only supported by the beam it sits on and the cross piece that it's leaning against. I think you should take a closer look at it. What a shame the chimney has been entirely removed. Those big old stones are gorgeous. What an ancient feeling property!
I can't believe anyone can live in a place like that with all those buildings and not have explored each and every one to the fullest right from the beginning, wow! I'm sure you must have at least peeked in at some point, even without the exploring? I sure would have, lol! You're doing well with the precautions on the one you are working on. Keep up the good work Sean!
When l moved in my main concern was to renovate my cottage, that's still ongoing. Yes l did go in the doorway just to put a few items in there, but never ventured any further with a torch. It just wasn't very high on the priority list 😉
Looking forward to the next installment 🎉 Thank you for sharing Sean x Hope the kittens are well and full of mischief ❤ hugs from Zaaso , "Zazibar animal affection society " we love all animals ❤
Amazing to see the cottage inside before anything is do e to it. How fortunate we are to have the homes we have today, although tjose were built well to last this long.
Thanks for making room in your time machine for us. 😂 I so enjoy seeing the old construction and your creative ways of fixing it up. If the walls could just talk.
Hello Sean and Sam and family. Excited to watch this one. I know they are still looking for the crown jewels from Louie....... Could it be?? Take care Not sure I can watch this as it 1sr Aires Natalie's not home and I get yelled at if I don't wait for her 😁
Not wanting to sound like a smarta*se [apparently I am, I've been told], why is the Alfa Romeo's door open, even kool cars batteries go flat. Not a bad place, from what I can tell, noticed the deadley treadley, hope you can get that goin too? Wonder why the window on the end was stoned up? Nice goin Sean, I learned a couple of things 9:25in love that bench, my mum's mum had on almost the same. Loved the marble [I think it was] in one of the 4 bedrooms at her place. Thanks m8, you certainly have some headscratchers.
What an amazing building you could feel the atmosphere even though the video and could imagine how it would have been to live there hundreds of years ago a lot of work to do but so satisfying to bring it back to life 😊❤
Thanks for letting us share your explorations. Fascinating to see. Glad for the motto safety first. Is your cap a hard hat version? I hope so, especially with dodgy roofs.
Membrane is working because that back wall looks dry. I can’t imagine not looking into that amazing space, fantastic potential. Can’t wait to see that worked on…..but one job at a time 😉
Very interesting as usual Sean but I do worry about the stability of the scaffolding towers not only for yourself but when other people use them in their renovations.🤔
Great vlog Sean, the end cottage is amazing. Do you think those stones came from another older building somewhere? Loving these projects, much love to you, Sam, Jasmin, Jack, Tom and the cats x ❤
Such an interesting place. When you take down the ceiling what will you replace it with? Or will you just leave it open to the rafters? And must add you gave me the jitters when you were reaching out way too far while working on the roof interior.
The wheels in your head were spinning with ideas and solutions. You are working through a massive project but little by little those buildings will be wonderful living spaces. Stay safe! Another great video, Sean.
Would it make the loose stone work more stable if you secured it by filling the gaps with mortar prior to adding and fixing that sloping beam (which is a good idea I might add)...?
