Sometimes you reach your goal, and sometimes you don't. Life, huh? Well on this day I learned that it's not always reaching the goal that makes you feel proud of yourself, sometimes it's giving every ounce of energy you had in you.
Some people ask why I train to be a competitive fisherman, and the answer is simple. The feeling I had at the end of this 60 minutes is the same feeling I have after making a 8 mile paddle in the last few hours of a tournament. Does every last-minute, long distance paddle pay off? Not even close. But I can tell you that giving that effort instead of heading back to the boat ramp is always a win in my book. If I gave my best effort and lose miserably, I feel a whole better than if I were to come in 2nd or 3rd knowing I could've put in that effort.
Which is exactly why I train.
The last chance spot that's 3 miles across the lake.
Dragging a 100+ pound kayak miles up a creek to possibly maybe have a chance of catching the winning fish.
Waking up at 3am to drive 3 hours to a lake, fish hard for 8 hours, then drive 3 hours back home.
Every rep of every workout prepares you for competitive fishing. And for that matter, life's challenges in general. Whether it's a single push-up, or a 300 pound bench press. Every single rep makes your better.
And I promise you, these 384 pull-ups let me know that I can handle a whole lot more than I thought I could.
