Try to list all the different mode of transports and vehicle changes you have to use to get from the airport to Tealand. Then decide if that is actually a well designed transit system ;) So far Im counting : - train - metro - metro - metro - bus You seriously have to change between THREE metro lines just to get from the airport to the second city. Plus a train and possibly a bus depending on where you destination actually is. Biffa makes such beautiful cityscapes. I wish he would put a bit more thought into from where to where his citizens want to go.

I find that bus stations work best when they have a dedicated road leading up to them. Otherwise the buses can cause a traffic jam.
@dyent
@dyent 5 месяцев назад
I put my bus station on a main road in the centre of a small area dedicated to high density commercial and office zoning. It was a bit of a mistake. I nicknamed the area "the traffic generator" I didnt have much space to play with without completely moving it, but I managed to step it back from the road by 4squares and put in a U of 1way road leading in/out of it, that cut the traffic by a good amount but it's still a problem area. Also don't put a car park too close - they add to the traffic, and theres already a car park within the bus station
@ryplays

I love the way making routes in transit changed from CS1 to CS2; you can place stops at key points and high ped areas, and then draw routes after. And, if you decide the city grew too much and needs a refresh, you don't have to delete all the stops, so you can redraw with keeping essential stops in place. Don't need to remember where you had your old stops at. Works so good for my silly brain.

I think you should have some more inter bus connectivity. At least in my city busses share more often some stops so people can change busses more easily. I think you should try that. Or have the ends of the bus routes meet at some places. Also I’m not sure if you did, but you should connect more bus routes with your tram, which maps around the city. So they can also easier go into all directions :)😊 But still I loved this video ❤

I think loops are almost always the best for trams and for metro sometimes may be loops sometimes point to point and very rarely hub & spoke. I think that because with loops you make bigger connection in small areas and point to point in metro, so that you can take that metro five stations before and doesn't take 25 minutes to do the entire loop back.

In my currently favorite traffic simulation game, Simutrans, I mostly play with a pure Hub&Spoke setup, where each line has only two stations, terminals at either side. It helps as Simutrans has an option to have a vehicle run only if it reaches certain loading levels. For goods, I am setting it to 100 percent load at the source, for passengers, it's 50 percent, as passenger travel is usually bidirectional. I was experimenting with a similar setup in City Skylines 1, but it does not work as well.

30:04 You only need 3 bus lines if you combine them: > Dark green + Yellow > Blue + Purple > Light Green 32:45: > Green should be deleted because it mostly shares the road with Pink and Purple, as well as going the same route as the Metros > Yellow should be expanded to start in the top left and follow the bottom to the Bus Hub in the bottom right > Pink should be expanded to meet with either the Purple or Yellow line (at Tech Uni), otherwise good > Blue and Purple is good as is

Thinking about the public transport in my metropolitan area in Germany (two major cities right next to each other), we have hub and spoke for busses, often with loops at the end of their routes. The trams are technically point to point, but the way they cross through both cities almost forms a loop. I guess it's more like a half circle and at certain hubs you can cross over. But there's also a tram loop that connects my neighbouring big city centre and main train station with the next big city over (that one is a 20 minute train ride away) and then loops to a smaller town that has a lot of shopping centres and stuff and then loops back to the neighbouring city. The busses only really cross over into the other cities on the night routes, when they take on some of the tram routes. There's also busses that connect from the hubs to outlying towns via motorway, A-roads or county level roads. And then obviously there's the train lines. The neighbouring city is a hub for the long-distance bullet trains and we also have a lot of regional trains going not only between the big city hubs, but also connecting to more mid-sized towns along the railway lines. I work in the neighbouring city and went to uni in the city one over (the one that is part of that tram loop) and I think that is working quite well for us. The car traffic between all these 3 major cities is so bad during rush hour, the few times I went to uni by car when someone took me along it took at least double the time it would have taken on public transport. The uni city is a tourist magnet so the locals actually prefer riding their bicycles, because public transport is often filled with tourists, but the trams and busses are also set up as a sort of hub and spoke or point to point system with that one connecting loop and the train station is also a stop for some of the long-range bullet trains, so it really is quite a convenient set up and I think a mix of these different types of transport systems is probably the best.

Absolutely bloomin' brilliant. Only improvement I would make is to have key hubs next to areas of density... Particularly the towers on biffington springs island. Need as many of those to be using public rather than private transport to avoid the queues entering that area. Less parking needed then too! The new area from previous episode feels like it should be the luxury area.. maybe for tourists as well? Lots of key destinations there required.

For what it's worth, my opinion is that the metro loop around Biffington Springs would better be replaced by a single line that runs under the main road across the island, and connects to Tealand Downs. The island just doesn't seem big enough to warrant a metro loop in my mind... two or three stops along the main road would be sufficient, using buses to connect them to the surrounding suburbs and to the existing tram loop...

In fact if a person takes the bus, then the metro and then another bus, you count them 3 times in the total number of passengers. Previously, citizens did not make so many transshipments. On the other hand, before the remodeling of public transport, there was already a subway in the city, but it seems that the old capture shows that there were 4 passengers using it alone. I'm sure it wasn't working because of some bug. Therefore, I am not clear to what extent the improvement of public transport (from 43,000 to 123,000 passengers) has been so big. It has obviously been due to the expansion of coverage, But I think that having to take the Biffanton Springs loop subway, then a subway that lets you cross the river and then the Tealand Downs loop subway, that's a lot of transfers, which could be solved with longer subway lines running the route seencer And we are no longer talking about bus users who have to go to the bus station first, then a subway that drops them off at another bus station and take a last bus simply because no bus crosses the river...

Personally with the buses I have the station itself closer to the main city to use as a hub & everyone can catch a route to there & then to somewhere else. But I did notice an issue I was having was the people. They can cause quite an issue with traffic for the buses getting in & out so I positioned it so that the people would walk out, then back behind the building to get to the city so that the buses going in at the front didn't have to deal with people walking around everywhere. Even with the mod to give crossings pedestrian times to cross, just can't do that for the actual entrances to buses have to try get through the people walking across but if where they walk is behind them they don't tend to cross in front of the entrance but just go out the sides then back behind the building.

I don't get, why so many people think loops were the best way to set up public transit. (Americans? No offense, but the US are not known for great public transit lol) Loops can be good around city centers (example: Ringbahn Berlin) or to connect small suburbs to a hub. The problem I have with them is they often don't bring you where you want to go. Even if there is a line the other way round. Besides that they are not very realistic for trams and metros. Maybe somewhere in the world they exist, i don't know. But it would be considerabely more expensive to construct a metro loop than a direct line. I think your public transport network should always be adapted to the geography of your town or city. How are the zones layed out? Where do people want to go? Where are points of interest? To sum it up: Loops can be great if they make sense. That means: always in both directions (people want to go one way and back without a gigantic detour!) and if they are linked with cross connections. My personal favorite is the spiderweb though. It gives many connections and you don't have to go through the city center if you don't need to. Just take the direct line or change at a little hub outside city center. But to be fair, this is more for larger cities.

you can create a bus line without merging it into the bus station. so like the university connect you can just have a bus stop across the river but the people will take one bus from the blue line than hop onto the next bus. since they dont have to be connected to the bus hub, it could even unlock more possibilities for ya

Tram = intersecting lines. Bus = loops with bus station Subway = hub and spoke

i would connect the two express metro lines together to use the metro trains better and make less transfers necessary. i would also connect more train lines together to make them longer, like you did in the video. and the same with some bus lines, to create point to point lines that pass through the hubs.

I was able to create a 100k city with 86% traffic flow because of public transport. Public transport is vital to city health in the game.

I'd love to see you pushing the city's public transport to the limit, see how much you can get people to use it. This is the game dev company that built Cities in Motion after all. And I'd love to see if you can get car use down as low as possible.

The delay usually happens after 60k population. I have played with both vanilla and mods even with the lowest setting and the best optimization, still the same. currently using 3090 TI, Ryzen 9 with 128gb ram

Love your videos. Cant wait for game to be presentable enough so that you would move from small towns to building big cities. Did you test your current PC limit in regards to population cap? If so how big is it atm?

@@BiffaPlaysCitiesSkylines This game has alot of replayability potential as population cap will rise with hardware over the years. Current map can house many mills in my estimation. Did fun run with no mass transit and 7 lanes one way roads and high density setups. Was surprised to see how well it runs. No mods.

My system would be a rapid transit (train / metro) similar to yours, combined with a multiple hub-and-spoke-systems for the busses in which metro (or train) stations serve as mini-hubs. To allow shorter bus lines, I would add the two 30:20 mentioned that you did not build - just to connect to the more local busses. 29:55 The mini-hub system would also mean providing the most of the coverage of these bus lines from other hubs. Of course bus spokes from different mini-hubs could touch each other to allow transfers. Speaking of transfers: 49:48 The tram did not really move forward. That's because of the quay wall position that causes ~50% of the area of effect in the river. But you might consider moving bus stops (perhaps also extending bus lines for that) and tram stops to create transfer stops with short walking distances.

Full disclosure, I have nto finished the eposide. At the 11:15 mark or so, when you are putting the train and bus,, it is the perfect opportunity t put a path over the road connecting the Bus station and the Train station. That will help traffic in the area in the future, when it gets super busy, without having to knock down any buildings.

Biffa, I think you put the taxi depot behind a one way bus lane, with no access to a normal road.

Great work! But something i have noticed is that there is a lack of pedestrian bridges and tunnels. And this is quite common among CS2 youtubers. Doesnt it work in the game? With all that traffic, and specially near the stations and hubs it would be a disaster bound to happen irl.

Great episode as always. The yellow line on spencer croft looks a bit odd to me. Can't you connect a bus lane between the tech uni and the other side of the cupplet with a stop in the middle instead of having two small spots out of the cupplet? I would also connect both sides of the city with one bus passing through Frostea forrestry for extra connection. The areas around the new Bus Hub on tealands down and spencer train station could do with some residential I think

Oh, and as for anything I would do differently, I would have connected the two metro loops with a third loop system.

Transit should have a suitability measurement, like RICO. Streets where there is transit demand should be green, where demand is low or even negative (resisted, NIMBY) should be red. If you build stations there, they will behave (at least initially) accordingly. As time goes by, the transit demand might change - providing transit at some point should usually suppress the demand for more transit! There's such a thing as "sufficiently served" or even "overserved" areas.

Biffa, maybe introduce a feature like park and ride? (I.e a 3-5 bus hubs around the centre, with straight direct routes into a main hub/city centre. There's usually loads of parking around them.
