As an Aussie, we grow our pineapples by just literally chucking the pineapple tops outside in the pineapple garden where they can then sort themselves out. Works real well
@@growithjessie I've seen someone catch half of a crown but you need to use fungicide and they need to dry fully, don't know if that's what was done here either
This channel is so underrated! My mom is a gardener and every single year she grows and germinates succulents and I keep telling her to grow something edible before I eat all of her plant and get sick and DIE and she said no… therefore, I planted my own fruit trees. I’m currently trying to grow lemons and apples but I might try pineapples now because of this video! Thanks! Edit: My tree seeds aren’t growing 😭 *but* I keep forgetting to water it soooooo I’ll try to stay on track with them
idk what do you have against succulents, but sounds kinda rude for you to say something that your mom loves is stupid, online, like dude she likes succulents, let her grow them, theyre pretty, idk if you really had to go all the way and call what she likes and does stupid, you wouldnt feel nice if i called what you like and do stupid wouldnt you?
I have what I believe to be two pink pineapple seedlings. I grown lots of pineapples from tops but the only ones I have done from seeds are pink. I knew they won’t grow a pink pineapple but just wanted to see what I’d get. They were planted on my deck in south west Florida. I threw them direct into potting soil and totally forgot about them until I found about 1/2 year later 😂 they are about 2” tall and wide at this point. Good luck to all trying to grow them!!
Have you done the Rockit apple? They’re really sweet crisp mini apples that are patented too! I would love to see if you could grow a Rockit apple tree from seed. I did get a seed to sprout but I always seem to kill everything I sprout!😞
Fun fact: you can't grow the same variety of apples from a seed ever. For example, if i planted a seed from a Fuji apple, the tree that grew would not grow fuji apples. All fuji apple trees, and by extension all apple trees of the same variety, are propagated to grow the same fruit. So unless you have a cutting from a Rockit apple tree, you won't be able to grow a tree that gives Rockit apples.
For me the propagation in water worked pretty well. To increase your own chances of success, you need to cut off the fruit flesh remaining on the bottom of the crown
@@growithjessie Not necessarily. I grew it as a house plant (here in Austria it's not that hot that I could trust it to survive outside at night). I just put it next to a bright kitchen window and plantet it into a pot, when I began to struggle with stuffing all the roots into it's container after changing the water (a container out of a light proof material is great to prevent algae from growing and still being able to lightly fertilize it)
My buddy in key west was like the pineapple whisperer. Every time he bought a pineapple to eat he would plant the crown. If you walked past his house you would think he was a farmer he had so many pineapples in the yard. He must have had over 100 potted pineapples sitting everywhere in every stage of growth. Why pots? Theres practically no soil in key west and it regularly floods due to the low elevation and proximity to the ocean so all the dirt is salty. Im convinced the most important thing to grow a pineapple is lots of sun.
You might suggest to your buddy in key west that he should consider filling the space with raised garden beds. That way he gets to use all of that space (no gaps, like between pots), and not subject to flooding (unless it's bad). Some places I've seen *tall* raised beds, made with adobo clay. These were in Monsoon country. (I don't remember what part of the world, just that it was because of monsoon flooding.) Anywho, the beds were more than waist high on the gardeners. At the base, they added a step along the entire length of it. Point is, your buddy could build tall and have loads more growing area. MIght be worth trying.
I just found your videos and I absolutely love how much you love growing things-you remind me so much of myself! I’ve grown anything and everything I can get my hands on 🥰 my favorite thing to do in the summer when I lived in northern Michigan was raising little monarch caterpillars! I had a whole big terrarium/fish tank just for my baby monarchs 🥰 I used to do it every summer from age 3-4 all the way until I moved across the country when I was 24 😊 i live in a big city now (San Francisco) so now I just get the mail order caterpillars for my 6 year old daughter! I’d love to get monarchs for her but we have no milk weed 😢 Also, I love your accent so much!
Omg, I love your videos and voices. I took have tiny baby pineapple from seeds. I grow them from the crown. I put them in soil and they grow better than in water.
So what kind of pineapple would you get if you plant the top off the pink pineapple. Since thats cloning, you should get a pink pineapple, not a yellow one. Unless the company is doing something underhanded like injecting color in the fruit.
That’s why, when your transplanting there’s no need to use dish soap just use room temperature water in the same med that she did, and just switch the routes around massaging them gently with your fingertips in you’ll get the roots, clean and super white way cleaner than she did. I’ve been doing it that way for 20 years.
I do want to note that no: when she said fruits only have seeds, that is not the case. Vegetable is just a culinary term and not a scientific one. The fruit itself is the plants way of protecting the seed, and it tasting good is a way that it ensures its seeds are distributed. Vegetables like carrots and cabbages do flower, and that’s where the seeds come from. Some plants bear fruit, while others just happen to have edible roots with stems that flower and don’t produce fruit.
When you pulling off the tops for the propagation method, I learned from a video of a man in Africa that you need to peel the leaves off up to an inch from the bottom of the stock. And you need to make sure you get all the pineapple flash and leaf off. You’ll know you got it off when the middle section looks like long thin stringy straight roots. I’m not sure if they are but that’s what you’re looking for. The water has to be clean. The water has to come up to where the green is. It does not touch the green or you’ll get the mold because that’s what happened when I did it to a few the very first time. The water must be changed every time it’s cloudy for the first little while the pope remaining on the stock will each remaining pineapple juice into the water and that sugar will attract yeast and fungus. That’s what causes the greeny. So you have to change the water until the roots begin to grow about an inch then it’s safe to just leave it in water. You may even be able to do light light nutrients at that point but it is not required. Because I tested both ways. 6:15
I planted the crown back in 2020, still waiting for fruit! The stay out side during summer day, and south facing window during winter! Bout time to repot!
The propagation Method works great. I tried it myself on five. It does take the mini mini months to sprout roots. I waited longer than that because I wanted the roots to be very very long before I put them in the ground. 5:41
My parents grew a pineapple at home in idaho. It took 3 years and resulted in a miniature sized pinneapple. They took to growing it in their bathroom for the humidity's help.
I saw it on another channel, they took banana peels, soak them in a gallon of water. He said it was good for the growth of plants because of the potassium. Just a suggestion I am trying this for our garden this year. Some things grow great, others not so much. Some years are much better than others.
In Canada do they core the pineapple tops? Here in the States I've seen that the center of the pineapple top where new leaves grow is removed to prevent people from taking the top to grow their own. This is particular common on the golden pineapples.
That's the weirdest squirrel I've ever seen...but it was soooo cutteeeee! Also I luv ur vids andddddd, I love pineapples. Maybe I should try growing one 🤔🤔
I have 2 pineapple tops growing. Almost 2 years old. I'm hoping to get a pineapple soon and make a video of the plant. I never did plant the seeds I got from the pink one last fall. I'm ordering some more pink pineapple from tropical fruit box this weekend. Have a great day and happy planting 🌱🌿😊🤗 LUV U 👹
Where did you find a pink pineapple ? I’m in Alberta and never heard of it I do have 2 tops in pots growing for a month now One I did straight to dirt the other I did a cup of water for a few weeks. Both have new growth in the centre ( fingers crossed they continue ) I did watch another guy took the top and cut it into quarters. Then plant those. I have those in dirt as well. Most the leaves have died but the one closer to the centre and all have taken root. I guess time will tell on those ones But I had no idea there was seeds so I guess I’ll be heading to the store for more pineapples Lol😊
Gawd I needed this video. I felt so bad recently when I tried to grow a pineapple from the top. It failed. Good to see you try different methods. Now I'm hungry for a pineapple!
wow maybe its the environment or ph because if you can grow yellow pineapples from the pink pineapple variety you can grow it back to pink because how did it get like that in the first place its kinda like some fruits and vegetables they got less or other bits of colors on them weed plant(from what i heard) or apples for example
the dark or where they black apples grown in a sertain kind of light made them very dark but not a great flavor tho the weed plants grown in sertaint lights make them sertain colors and stuff
You should invest in a more powerful, non-blurple light. Maybe you have one, I don't know. The last video I saw blurple (I'm new. Just subscribed)😊 I want you to have success! WE want you to have success😊
the pineapples will grow from the tops, it wont grow into a big tree, but rather a plant! so you have to plant many pineapple tops, and each pineapple top usually only produces one pineapple! sometimes they will create babies from one, though.
Whatever you do dont try to grow a lemon tree from a seed. I grew one. I had the tree for almost 15 years. No fruit. No flowers. I found my plant propagation book and looked up lemon propagation and it said if you grow from seed it takes 15 years to mature enough to fruit. Well, i didnt get to see that because i forgot to bring the tree inside when we were expected to have a slight freeze. The tree died.
Hi, Jessie. This is the first time I've ever heard of pink pineapple. I'm in California. Would you happen to recall what store you got them? I'd like to try this. And even if the top is cut off, I will try very carefully to start another plant from the crown. (Wish me luck.)
I would hope so, @@cassandraleexo. I was at TJ's today and I looked for these. Lucky I just happened to look at the pineapple and it reminded me of the pink ones. LOL. So yeah, I specifically looked for these pink ones, but saw none. Perhaps they only sell them in season. Much like organic grapes and melons. I will keep watching out for them.
"only fruits have seeds" so tomato and peas and cucumbers and ovocado and you know where im going. but whaaaaat???? so are pineapple vegetables or all all that ive listed fruits? comments?
i have one pineapple plant that was successful from the crown and a few germinated seeds that im waiting to grow. we should have a pineapple poking its head out by end of summer!
I have a worm I want you to grow... I see u said you like worms.. I can onky dream though...great channel I will be trying this. Collected seeds and tops
I’m sad the video title was a complete lie? Like I watch this channel a lot and I was excited to actually see a pineapple and in the end you barely got them to sprout. I’m not sad it’s a work in progress still, just that the title is misleading.
awwww I'm sorry! I didnt mean to mislead you at all! I was thinking of a captivating title and that is the one that came to mind. I apologize, but thank you so much for coming by and watching my video. i truly appreciate your support
