One of the many many lessons I have learned from this dude is that when you catch a fish, you must say the words “see ya buddy” each and every time when you release the fish
I always give bluegill a little bit of a toss with the idea being that maybe they will stop coming after my bait and let the bigger fish come in. Living in Illinois, I swear bluegill makes up like 90% of the fish population and I'm tired of catching them. One day I caught 14 bluegill in the span of two hours, + 1 bluegill that I caught twice. The water was clear and I let him go, cast out my line and watched him turn right around and grab it again...
I remember when I was younger (now I'm 18) and I would always wine whenever their would be no catch, but the thing is, the more your grow, the more you realize life is nature. Your life can go it's own way, and just the fact that he was even able to get where he got, catch something, is all that matters. I'm a believer, but Even God has his own will just liken nature. My Grandma passed away this year, not from covid, she died from a stroke. I'm happy she's up there in peace. I had Covid, but all I had was 3 day cold, and a weird taste and smell issue where I couldn't do any of the 2 for a month. Strangely my sibling couldn't do either for like 2-3months.
I randomly chanced upon your channel...A fishing addict myself, though in India it's mainly licenced fishing at big lakes....and not much of sport fishing Love the intro songs..and the way you set the fishes free...You have a new sub.. ❤️ Loads of love from India.
The last time I saw anyone get as excited over catching a Carp as were was when my 9 yr old son caught his first one. Here in Wisconsin, the only people that have never caught tons of Carps are those that have never fished. As others have said, I love your enthusiasm just catching a tiny bass or Bluegill. NEVER lose that Joy no matter how old you get.
“See ya later buddy.” Always said this when releasing a fish since I was a kid. I’ve been here since the beginning and I think this is the first time I’m commenting on this phrase, but I think you should really start a merch line like tshirts or soemthing with a bass or what not and it just says see ya later buddy. Idk maybe it’s just me but if by one.
They put up a good fight but they give up pretty quickly. I’ll take a massive trout on a fly rod any day I are a carp. I do think carp are fun on a fly rod or light tackle
Nice to see someone excited about catching a carp. It saddens me that so many here in the states just see them as trash. They are an absolute blast to catch. Love it.
@@Geion you make a good point. Should I consider largmouth bass a trash fish in California? Simply because it is an introduced species in my state? Should I encouraged people to kill each one they catch? Or should I just enjoy catching the fish? Not really trying to argue with you. Because you are correct. But the majority of the freshwater fish I have caught in my life have been introduced to the waters by humans. For better or for worse we happen to live on a planet that has been drastically altered by human activity. I dont see a reason to not enjoy catching a good sized fish just because people in the past decided to introduce the species into waters they should not be in. I just catch what bites and enjoy it.
@@dockking3622 don't know about that. The reason I said what I did about carp is because the Asian carp has completely fucked up large portions of the Mississippi River to the point where the indigenous fish have all died off. It's so bad that they have set up mechanisms to prevent them from being able to get into the great lakes for fear of the same thing eventually happening there.
@@Geion ya those Asian carp are a menace. I have seen videos. Their numbers are crazy. And they are a real threat to those ecosystems. I definitely don't deny the devistaing impact invasive species can have on native species populations and the overall ecology of an ecosystem. I just enyoy catching fish. And I was stoked to see this guy excited to catch a fish that i have enjoyed catching and that many people would rather not catch.
I enjoy watching your videos as a husband and a father of two that works a lot my fishing days are limited to 0. So watching your videos gives me that peaceful satisfaction feeling that I miss so very much
Loved seeing you so excited with that wild carp. A 5lb wildie will go like a 15lb stock carp, plenty of muscle. We still have a few in the rivers here in England, good fun on light tackle
I was bass fishing on a float tube once and got a big bite. Put up a great fight all excited to see the bass I had landed and........ a 12 pound carp. Same feeling.
Hey Nick, just a possible word of advice from my own experience, I would suggest allowing whatever takes you have on the live sunfish to unfold for a while before setting the hook, at least 15 seconds. Could lead you to some better hookups. Just an idea, keep up the strong work!
I fish creeks like this all the time and it's always minnows/small fish nibbling at the bait. When the group gets big enough it feels and moves like a wierd bite but usually just minnows.
If I know theares pike in thear I like to let them take a few minutes extra or atleast a good run to avoid pulling the bait out of their mouth but most of the fishing holes up hear that size dont have anything decent size in them .so I will react on the hit right away .I like to light a little fishing fire cook a few dogs and have myself a few buds .keep up the good times and rip a few more good luck you guys .enjoy the season and stay virus free
Common Carp are just that in my area: common. A little reservoir I go to has LOTS of 5-7 pounders. Then there is a good supply of 10-15 pounders that give you a great fight. Then there are what my friends call "Them". You see Them from time to time but are very smart and cautious. Personally I call them "Typhoon Class". 20-25 pounds of break your arm Common Carp. Like you said: some people don't think anything special about the Carp. But to us who go after them with micro ultralight poles and 4-6 pound line, they are the best fight we found around here. Congrats on your first time catch!
Carp are over 50 lbs where I used to fish. Mine got off the hook but a friend caught one 55...I think he said it took over a half hour to real it in...Carp are easy to catch and fun sport fish...
@@618Fishing i used blugills to catch bass, but then found out it is illegal in CA to use a gamefish to catch a gamefish. sunfish works so well! did u ever check your local laws?
Another great video. We have lots of those small common carp in the UK and they are tremendous sport on light tackle. Glad you were pleased, they are great fish!
Now thats a great day out 🎣 fishing. 👍 watching this makes my 43 yr old butt want to get back out an do it again. i hung it up 15 yrs ago for hunting. but this video just re-sparked my old passion thanks dude.
I swear everytime nick sees a spillway he rips the e-brake and just drifts in there as violently as possible and just starts fishin as if nothing just happend
Check out the European carp fishing bite alarms I got a set for carp and catfish and there is nothing more exhilarating than hearing that alarm start screaming
@@amandahill2308 there are vids on yt that they attach a gopro,to the mainline,,,then a leader to the waterproof housing,,,then a lure,,,,and it looks just like youd imagine,,,,check it out,,,,cool,,,,I love watching feeding time at Basspros big fish tank,,,,where they dump a ton of minnows in the tank, and the fish have at it,,,,you absolutely learn so much in a short time,,,on how the fish feed,,,,,the bait breaks all up,,,and say the bass, for instance, kinda just follow them around,,,then when a single bass is ready, and hungry enough,,he hits the gas,,,,,,those minnows dont stand a chance,,,he attacks like with cheetah speed and takes the minnow at will,,,,youd think the smaller minnow would easily out swim the fat ol bass,,,but when its time,,its not even a close contest,,,that minnow is toast,,,a bass can take a minnow anytime it wants,,no problem,,,,,ABSOLUTELY FASCINATING,,,,and you learn so much from the fishes perspective,,,that we never get to see,,,,li believe that I totally understand why, now, when bass whack a moving lure,,,,I understand WHY, the hit is so powerful, and aggressive, from actually seeing it occur,,at thier level,,,,when your at basspro,,,you HAVE TO SEE THE FEEDING TIME,,,i,love it,,,,😎
I was just saying to myself: that fish fights just like a (king) carp... beautiful fish. Great to see other people out there get excited by single figure wild carp. I love targeting those "small" fish on wild waters, much cooler than fishing for 40lb+ fish on commercials as is the fashion here in Europe
Absolutely love this!! My father took me to fish at places like this all the time💙 when I was 4-6.I learned to fish anywhere,he called it billy goating🤣keep up your passion my man!!
Damn! Your channel reminds me of my youth! When you didn’t care what you caught as long as you caught it! Really cool stuff! Makes we wanna get the ol catfish rods out a go find a simple creek!👍
That looked like a great trip. Congrats on your first carp. I used to love catching those beasts in the tribs of Lake Michigan in mid to late May. We'd catch them one after another; most in the 35" range (never had a scale with us). Lost a few poles to them, too. They'd just rip them right out of the holders. Crazy stuff.
Carp have a very high tendency to feign being tired. I've lost many a carp just off the bank, but my largest was a 45 pound monster. Combos snack crackers (cheddar cheese pretzel) has been my go to carp bait.
Here in Australia you could be arrested for releasing the Catp back into the wild. Here they are a pest fish that destroy river systems, kill native fish species. It felt so odd letting it go alive.
I recently almost bought a bait caster because i felt like i needed one due to seeing most fishing youtubers use them and seeing you fish how i always have changes my mind on the purchase. At least for now:)
What fun...Nice scenery, nice music. Well done. I liked how you really showed what the fish you caught looked like & what they were, for those of us who dont know for sure. Nice, pleasant adventure. Thank you...😉👍🇺🇸
The “DO NOT FISH HERE. YOU WILL BE ARRESTED FOR TRESPASSING” really ruined my thoughts just then, but as long as he keeps showin us these spots, we’ll be alright!
To catch carp, use 8-10lb mono on a medium power rod. Just cover the hook in a ball of white bread (no crust) or sweet corn, or make your own bait by mixing Frosted Flakes and strawberry soda until it gets a doughy consistency. Worms also work great, but other fish will try and eat these a lot too. Use a palomar knot for good strength, and just use one 1/8 oz split shot 12” up the line. Good luck!
We love carping over here in the UK, strange the way the US sees them as an invasive species...They can give you an amazing fight, i've caught common carp from the river Ebro in Spain and next to the Wells Catfish over there was the best fighting fish i've faced. River carp are very strong fish.
@@Akren905 I'm lucky... there's a small creek in my neighborhood with TONS of fish, the trick is to go there when nobody's swimming, or you might accidentally end up catching a person...
And then on top off that....he turned that POS trash fish back in the estuary. Sorry pal... thumbs down. You cut loose the perfect size eating catfish.
I love it when folks beg the fish to "please stay on" LMAO! I'm guilty as heck of doing it! Like we think the fish can hear us! Hahaha! So I stumbled across your channel and I'm "hooked" LOL you go the extra mile hunting fish and that's cool. I do have a ton of questions though. 1st one is how many times have you been bitten by snakes? Or come close to getting bit? Some of those areas look like they could be infested with them!
Very nice video. Nice catches. When you fish where everyone else fishes, the fish are basically over fed. So they don’t bite much. That’s why, just like you did here, I hop into my kayak and find the out of the way places like in the cat tails and lily pads, fish a weedless rubber worm, retrieve it across the top and net some HUGE bass. Bass are my favorite. You catch and release. I catch and grease 🥴 I stock my freezer for the winter.
I was gonna type the same thing. I've seen guys fish with bluegills the size of hands convinced they are gonna catch the "big one" all that does is kill the fish and gives turtles something to eat. I have this live bait rule. nothing bigger then my index finger. it's worked.
I knew it was gonna be a Common Carp! Awesome, they're such a fun and amazing fish. Congrats on a new species man! Hope to see you catch a lot more of them in the future.
Kim Went, I have used a hard roll, bread bun from a restaurant, & have caught literally dozens of carp, in this manner, placed about a foot below the surface, with an adjustable bobber, ... they can “smell” the bread, & flock to it like putting a “free food” sign on the hook, ...
Yeah carp are a huge feature fish in the UK and Europe. A lot of people here are constantly chasing them. The bigger lake fish are often heavy but don't always fight that hard but fight for a long time. The 10to 25lb mark fight hard and if your lucky enough to have river carp locally lb for lb not much else fights harder. Awesome vid
Carp are one of the most awesome species to catch if you ask me, along with tench (which you guys don't have over in the US). They fight so freaking hard. I think it would be fun to see you specifically targeting carp occasionally :) I think you could have quite a bit of success over there. Here, we have the problem that they are caught so often that they learn how to recognise end tackle and lines and stuff, but I guess over there that won't be the case at the spots you tend to fish. And another plus: they can get really, really huge. Over at my favourite fishing spot over here in the Netherlands, there are apparently some 60 pounders and tons of 40 pound carp.
@@618Fishing Awesome man! Definitely looking forward to that! Keep up the great vids! You're about the only fishing channel that I devoutly watch every time a new vid comes out :)
Shredded wheat and vanilla flavoring.Thats the ingredients for carp and catfish. The old fashioned plain shedded wheat cereal yellow box. Anyways mix shredded wheat with water until it turns into doughball then mix in vanilla flavoring. Cheap and easy as pie to carry and mix with water where your fishing. Best bait advise ever!!
... so, if you indeed enjoy catching carp I'll leave you with this angling gem - Wonder Bread, and Peanut Butter balled up on a treble hook... enjoy 😂👍🎣🏆
My dad used to make dough bait with honey, peanut butter and cereal, (something like that, wish I could remember) Carp loved it and it was a good snack for us kids.
I never understood the spillway with the swing-up gates; What's the point, it would just flood the creek ahead of it? But seeing this episode now, the 1st-stop "puddle" is an intake for something, they close the gate to flood the intake for whatever it is used for. COOL!
I used to catch those common carp in the Yellowstone river where I lived growing up. They are still the funnest fighting fish I've ever caught in fresh water....

Haven’t read the thousand plus comments (nice) but your common carp looks like a King Carp one of the rarer carp varieties. Love your vids from the UK 👍
