If you want to build the highest level of skill for the notes on the neck, as well as, for chords, then I’m going to ask you to include this one CAGED Theory exercise into your daily training over the next month.
All you’ll need is a couple of days to get started with learning the basic structure of the exercise, and then about 27 days more to develop proper technique to build the muscle response for performing all of the chords everywhere across the neck.
In this video, I am going to show you how this one exercise will not only help you increase the skill for locating notes on the neck, but I’m going to also stress the rhythm guitar value of the results that you can get from adding this exercise to your training over the next 30 days.

I really appreciate your approach to the CAGED System. Of the many videos I have watched about CAGED, you are the only instructor that connects the shapes to the root notes on the fret board. This video cemented the shapes in my mind because of the connection you made to the root notes. Thank you.

One thing I figured out after watching multiple videos on the CAGED system was think of it as BAGED but using the CAGED chord shapes and sequence. If you start on the B string and form the C shape, the root on the B string will be on the A string. On the A string, you form the A shape and the root on the A will be on the G string. On the G string, you form the G shape and the root on the G will be on the E. On the E string, you form the E shape, and the root on the E will be on the D string. On the D string, you form the D shape and the root will be on the D and the B string (BAGED)...and then it repeats. Form the C shape on the B string and the root on B will be on the A string. The root and shape start and sequence as C(B)AGED, and the next root note will be on the next C(B)AGED string. It sounds confusing but try it on your guitar and you will see it. Hope that makes sense.

I just recently picked up the guitar again only because I figured I was doing something wrong to progress; I'll try this tonight and hopefully everything can click and I get finally get caged system down and become a more rounded guitar player. Thank you for another way to try and get it down, I appreciate the insight.

I'm 42 now.. but at one point between the ages of 9 and 15 I'd worked myself into 3 different guitar lessons a week by 3 different teachers. I got really burned out. I still play but I've lost so much of my versatility and much of the theory I don't remember either unfortunately. I remember chords and such.. but I really want to get back into playing again other than the handful of songs that are just ingrained into my head and muscle memory. I was never great at playing lead guitar.. but with practice I later was able to learn some pretty good lead guitar from some of my favorite rock bands! .. but I never really knew what I was playing. So I hope to learn scales again and how to build lead around chords. I bought a looper and should be here this week!!! I'm excited! So I hope to use some of your teachings and get to improvising some lead guitar!!! 😀

My last solo piece I worked on was Buddy Holly's "Crying Waiting Hoping".. Marshall Crenshaws solo version. Was super cool!!! I worked my butt off till I could play it! My dad got to hear me play it before he passed away back in June! He perked right up and was smiling watching me play!!! Was very cool! Wish he was still here

I do have a 'light' background with the CAGED System ... which is a fantastic way to understand the fret board ... but without that, this would be overwhelming to take in. Thank you for the lesson ... just wanted to add that observation.

Hey thanks for posting helpful vids. To be honest on your CAGED vids, I watched both of your CAGED videos plus 10 other videos on RU-vid on this theory. There's 7 notes from A to G, yet all of you RU-vid guys teach C and only C. Why? This video was made as an exercise to branch off of your previous video that set up CAGED theory, and you're using C again. I do not understand how to translate this to F, B, or any other root note in CAGED except for C. This really makes no sense why every single CAGED video you guys talk about one note, the convenient root note C. Later in the video you touch on F... For maybe 20 seconds. Please make a new video or pass the word to other RU-vidrs to expand on cage theory outside of C, in detailed video form. Thanks for the vids otherwise. You're a great teacher, i am just not grasping how cage theory branches out from C.

Spencer Liscano you can move the shapes to any other root note so you can play in any other key.
@brianp9001
@brianp9001 4 года назад
Spencer Liscano The Key of C is the universal starting point for teaching theory because it’s major scale has no black keys(sharps or flats) on a keyboard. That’s why everyone is starting with C. What’s cool about this system and the guitar specifically, is that it if a song is in a different key, like A or F, you can use the same shape chord fingerings but on the higher or lower spots of the fretboard. It’s basically like chord inversion on a keyboard, playing the same chords with different keys.

Plus, it’s easier to spell caged if you start with C, and theoretically, easier to see the repeating pattern.

You need to recognize notes on the fretboard. Every fret higher you move the note gets sharper. Lemme know if you need a detailed explanation
