Hey Steve, I just want to say that there are many good teachers on RU-vid, but you are, by far, the most outstanding. Thank you so much!

Thanks for your passion for teaching and the clarity with which you do so. I've played guitar for 40 years, always just rhythm. I also worked an average of 60-70 hrs a week and a lot of those years playing over 100 appointments a year as well. There was never time to actually learn beyond what I already knew.Well, I'm retired now and I've been watching your videos for about a year or so and I learned more about the guitar in the first few months than I did in the previous 40 years, so I just wanted to say thanks from a thankful bluegrass/country gospel heart.

Hi Steve, I am a mediocre guitarist/songwriter and always looking to progress my knowledge on the fretboard, even at 60yrs of age 😊. I’m not great with theory and have had many people mention the CAGED, system to me but have struggled to get my head around it until this lesson. It’s like a light bulb moment for me, brilliant thank you 👏

Steve I've learnt caged and after pentatonics, then diatonics/scales for each mode, then triads, then 3nps - and still I was awfully confused in how to apply them all! This video managed to untangle the great knot of complication I was in so thank you for that! I'm not saying I now know everything but I feel this video gives one a base understanding that one can easily miss whilst walking the path of being self-taught! And all this in a free lesson I mean wow! Thank you !

Thanks for this Steve. This video finally made the concept click for me. As I enter my 40s, I have decided now is the time to stop being the perpetual beginner / aimless inconsistent player and actually learn the instrument properly - this feels like the best kind of mid-life crisis! I realise I'm not going to be going on a stadium tour or becoming the next virtuoso and I'm cool with it. But I'm feeling very motivated by your videos, and your teaching style really resonates with me. Thanks for being so generous with your time and expertise.

Great video Steve! Can you do a lesson on how a CAGED shape relates with a pentatonic scale?
@stinemusiclessons
@stinemusiclessons 7 месяцев назад
Hi. Thanks for the suggestion. Usually CAGED is more related to chords and arpeggios and how to find the notes of the chords in different positions on the neck. However you can relate to the pentatonic shapes depending on where you are on the fretboard. For example if we take the Am/C major pentatonic the first shape you find on the neck starts with the note E on the open 6th string (This would be the 4th position of Am pentatonic). This would relate to the C shape of the C chord in the open position. From here we go to the C chord (A shape) which is the 5th string barre chord and this is the 5th position of the Am pentatonic. Next is the G shape C chord and this is the 1st position of Am pentatonic. The following shape of C chord is the E shape (6th string barre chord) and this relates to the 2nd position of Am pentatonic and finally the D shape which is connected to the 3rd position. In summary here is what we have: C shape - 4th position Am/ 3rd position C major A shape - 5th position Am/ 4th position C major G shape - 1st position Am/ 5th position C major E shape - 2nd position Am/ 1st position C major D shape - 3rd position Am/ 2nd position C major Let me know if this helps and answers your question. Thanks again for commenting!

@@stinemusiclessons YES! This is what I was wanting to know.... If each CAGED cord shape is related to a particular pentatonic scale position! Thank you Steve, you are an amazing teacher!
