I did three rides in a day and somehow didn't die

What a cool way to spend my second day in the Adirondacks. I was able to get rides in three different locations: Hardy Road, Dewey Mountain and Mount Pisgah.
Thanks to Adirondacks USA for sponsoring this three-part series! Check it out for yourself: bit.ly/2PBXZNs
Hardy Road had a perfectly tough trail called Good Luck that tested my techy climbing ability. Dewey Mountain had some super creative gnar sections that were challenging and FAST. Mount Pisgah had a really nice machine-built flow trail to completely change up the riding and test my ability to let off the brakes!
It was a perfect day, sampling some sweet Adirondack singletrack.

17:35 Actually, my 72-y-o father said mumbly peg is when you take a pocket knife and drop it to the ground with your foot out. The kid who gets it closest to his foot without pulling away is the winner. He used to play it in elementary school back when they didn't care if you brought knives to school. He said he would always win because he would drop it into his foot.

I remember that version; also balance it on one hand then try to drop it closest to your other hand on a picnic table. Stupid kid versions.

Great video, as usual! Those trails looked like a lot of fun, and especially the use of the rocks. The tech climb you made was impressive! I have an idea for you for jumping, because I've been EXACTLY where you are. I've seen you J hop and American bunny hop back in the video with Seth and Sampler, and you're pretty good at it. Find a little double like that one at the 21:58 mark...that's PERFECT. Hit it over and over, using the J hop where you compress the suspension into the face, use your weight to pull back on the bars (don't PULL UP), and then transition your weight forward to pull the rear of the bike up in the air to match it the front. ALL you are doing is...learning to USE the face and allowing it to launch you into the air under control, instead of "absorbing" it with your arms and legs. You're developing a FEELING of using the suspention and body position to launch the bike into the air. START on a little double like that, where if you case it...no big deal. That will FORCE you to learn to use the rebound of the bike off the face and lip, and ultimately you will see that you are in MORE control than trying to stay low and absorb the lip. I did EXACTLY what you are doing for years, until I finally got the feeling of "popping" off the lips, instead of trying to stay back and low, and absorbing them. That will NEVER work, unless you are racing and trying to squash the jumps to stay low. You'll never clear anything at "trail speed" if you don't learn how to pop off the lips. As you progress, it's not a J hop...it's just a compression of the suspension, and straightening of the legs as it rebounds. BUT to LEARN IT, you need to force yourself to launch the bike using a J hop. Once you get the feeling, then you can move to bigger jumps and tone down the J hop to just a quick pre-load and "pop" off the lip. That's how I got over that innate feeling of wanting to absorb everything, and stay low in my "safe zone." Ultimately...I came to realize that it's actually a MUCH more dangerous position, because it's easier to get bucked when you're too far back over the rear axle, and not more over the bottom bracket. That Ripmo WANTS to jump. It's such a good composed jumping bike. I just think you've got to move out of that comfort zone, and I know for me, forcing myself to clear little doubles like that, taught me how to actually "jump" the bike, and not just be along for the ride.

Please come to Toronto for a day or two. We don't have much elevation here, but the quality of trails that are only 10KM from the downtown core is incredible and like nowhere else in the world. Most of our best trails are mapped on Trailforks. I highly recommend Sanitation Plant, The Ridge, Topo, Catalyst, Party Atmosphere, Climbmax, G-Spot, Roller Flowster, Foreplay, Bunny Run, Dirt Farm, Bunny Poop, Motown, Dr. Quads and Fruitloop. This may sound like a long list, but many of these trails are quite short and this entire list could be easily done in 2 days. Contact Sweet Pete's bike shop if you're looking for a guide. Toronto would be a great place for you to stop on your way to Quebec.

@willbros1499
@willbros1499 5 лет назад
NOOOOO....and they SUCK!!! I'm not buying another one of their products until they add a metal ring to the end of the grip instead of that cheesy plastic bar end that goes OVER the rubber. It's a horrible design, and when something like that fails that easily and quickly, I WILL NOT buy another set, or even replacement the plugs, because I feel like I'm being taken advantage of by a company who has designed something NOT TO LAST. The best grip EVER was a Loaded Precision AmXC Pistol grip, but the owners never marketed anything well, and they ended up going belly up a few years back. I wish I had bought 10 pairs and just kept them to use over the years.
