When I was living in Malaysia, I didn't go home to the UK for a total of 7 long years. During my time away from home, I experienced significant life changes; I got divorced, our son was born, and I got married again to someone new. But when I finally returned to the UK after all those years, I noticed big changes that had taken place in various aspects of life after the 7 years I had been away. Prices had rocketed, making everyday life feel quite different financially than I remembered. The landscape was also different; familiar places looked changed and new developments had sprung up everywhere, altering the environment I had once known. Even the people appeared to be different; I noticed a huge cultural integration with more incomers to our town, bringing new customs and traditions. To work away from home takes a lot of sacrifice and it's not for everyone, as it can be quite challenging to adjust and stay connected with loved ones. However, during my time working abroad, I have met some truly great people along the way since I started this journey of working overseas back in 1997. In this video, I talk about my imminent retirement to the Philippines and some of the sacrifices I have endured throughout this experience, sharing my thoughts and insights on both the challenges and the rewards of living and working in different countries.
