I love seeing little Perla learning English! I work as a camp counselor and I've had some kids who speak mostly Spanish. But they're so smart and they learn so well. I've tried to learn Spanish too but I'm still not very good. They've been teaching me words too though! El ninos es muy inteligente! Yo hablo poquito Espanol. Gracias Perla! Your videos are helping me learn some Spanish too, hearing words in context.

5:13 is kinda relatable bc I had a new student in 1st grade and the new student was named, SANTIAGO. My teacher mrs.deran tried helping Santiago speak English BY USING A TRANSLATOR. (And some of the kids in my class helped Santiago count in English and he did it perfectly.)

I was surprised that she was only taught in Spanish through pre-k and kindergarten. I remember being put in an English as a Second Language program as soon as I started kindergarten. Even had to be taken from class to take extra reading lessons and speech lessons. I thought it was the norm to be put in those programs but I guess every place is different.

The reason why your uncle get mad when you said him “ pájaro “ is because the word “pájaro” in a lot of parts in Mexico means the thing that the mans have in the middle of their legs so when you said him “eres un pájaro” he think that you where saying “eres un (you know what is it)” so that’s why he get angry

1:43 gurl, I’m not familiar with the name and stuff but I’m from the Caribbean and there was those middle aged women in Pointe-a-Pitre that would give you some ‘snow balls’ (we called it sino balls) at the carnaval or just in the city and next to the road. Really shows how latinos (sorry if I said that wrong I don’t speak English) are close to Caribbean people :)

That reading test story gave me flashbacks to when half the kids in my class in 1st grade only spoke Spanish, because they immigrated here from South America, and the kids who spoke both Spanish and English were made to translate for the teacher because she was just as clueless as the kids who didn’t speak English. I remember when my mom told me when my older sister began going to elementary school in the states & the counselor & teachers said that she wasn’t doing well bc “she’s mentally ill”. This always happens to Hispanic kids in America schools...but for me this was backwards..im Hispanic but the teacher's always told me "this is America so speak English in school only no Spanish" so that what I did...and I forgot how to speak Spanish for awhile

“Speak american” U should have done a **procedes to continue spanish** Fricken teacher- xD America is full of spanish speaking countries- im from latin america myself lol- i speak Brazilian Portuguese xD But oh man- i suck at anything language related- i just re-did my Grammar test today ._. When I was in third grade, they put me in a English learner program because they thought I Spanish was my first language since my parents are immigrants. Even after my parents explained multiple times that I only knew English, they kept me in the program

Opposite thing happend to me. They NEVER put me in the program even though spanish was my first language. Every year my parents had to tell the school.

I don't remember much when I first went into school (Pre-k) knowing NO english but I remember wanting to go to the bathroom really bad and trying to ask the teacher like " ¿puedo ir al baño? " and she was like " What did you say, sweetie? " and I was like " Uhh, voy a ir al baño " and I just ran off because I wanted to go so bad T _ T
