Ok just to clarify: I like the new OST, I enjoy both of them and I know SEGA just couldnt use the old one anymore because of legal reazons. This is just a meme, and only in this format so I could use the Jetzones ver as well. Both themes are great, sonic's ost is always great...... minus the dark brotherhood one, you know which one im talking about. Its just, like I said in the description: Im gonna miss old Ice Cap zone's theme
Legal reasons my ass sega damn well could have just coughed up the money to buy the rights to the songs but no sega have to be so fucking greedy that they even rushed another sonic game for like the 5th or 6th fucking time now sega are greedy pigs now they only care about money if they gave a damn about the games they made then colors ultimate wouldn't have had the glitch that could have literally KILLED people with epilepsy and they wouldn't have rushed 06 rise of lyric and colors ultimate alongside forces and origins
Yeah, uh, so hard times was an unreleased song made by the jetzons in 1982, and made 16 bit in 1993 but the prototype tracks were in case the tracks didn't work out but now in origins, they sound much... worse.
@@Urmum18169 no, the original tracks were just that. the original tracks. they replaced them later in development, and the PC version already had these original tracks.
@@90sNath I think you've mistaken launch base and carnival night for ice cap zone, THOSE were butchered. While ice cap zone is basically just act 2 of the proto for both acts.
@@avidamateur4118 I do like carnival night zone, I just didnt think it was anyone's favorite. Carnival Night is good, but I also prefer Flying Battery and Hydrocity.
@@jboneblood Heh, you're shown that you're really biased. Calling the prototype tracks trash? You kidding? lol They're actually bangers. And this is coming from me who did not grew up with the Sonic and Knuckles PC collection. Preferring the final tracks is all subjective. But the prototype tracks sounds more what you expect of a Sonic game than the final tracks and you call them trash? Just saying.
@@retrofan4963 Yes, because your post doesn't show your bias. Your last sentence doesn't prove anything more that what J said. And yeah, everyone knows there are no arguments here it's just people agreeing with each-other so you don't have to break out the child's manual on how opinions work either. I agree with J too. The atmosphere is dead in the prototypes.
honestly, Sega needs to hire a new sound arranger. Not a new composer, a new *arranger* AKA the guy that takes the sheet music and puts it into FL studio or somthing to make it sound all... Genisisy.
They had to because of all the legal problems they would’ve had if they added the original tracks. But the prototype tracks were still there and sega remixing it is just sega.
@@Klotzy4433 Already have, huge difference. Carnival Night Zone sounds like waiting and then playing in an amusement park, Ice Cap is more leaning on the sound of snow than Ice, and Launch Base, while not as funky, does fit the mood of marching towards the Death Egg before it's too late. and it's all clobbered by Jun.
@@Klotzy4433 he made the credits music as a preview to stranger in Moscow but the credits aren’t in the game because it’s combined with sonic and knuckles
The OG Sonic 3 soundtrack is good and better than Sonic Origins replacement, but atleast the Sonic Origins replacement does a good job remastering the prototype music and making it feel like you are in the zone, the sonic origins for ice cap makes me feel like I am in Ice Cap doing Sonic's thing and go through it with speed
The Proto music (which was 95% complete by the time of its replacement) was vastly superior to the early Midi's that Jun Senoue based his remixes based on. The only issue it had was the same as Starlight Zone from sonic 1, where an instrument would get passed over by SFX
They had no choice. It’s because the original Ice Cap Zone music is composed by Michael Jackson, it is highly unlikely they will get it back as it is now Sony Music property.
I actually completely forgot that there was an alternate version of the ice cap zone music. I remember the one for launch base zone because I played a Sonic Knuckles collection on PC back in the '90s, but I forgot about the ice cap one
Sega should’ve thought twice about the soundtrack we all know and love. Because the soundtrack is still owned by the other party. Frickin Micheal Jackson.
the truth is that the theme of Sonic Origin is not bad it could easily be the snow theme of any other classic Sonic installment but what was really wrong was that they changed it
I've already bought Sonic 1 and 2 so many times, that I see no problem in enjoying Sonic 3&K through emulation, including my favorite music. I've given Sega so much Sonic money through the years. I deserve the original Sonic 3 and that's what I'll play.
Yeah, Sonic 3 Complete is still the best way to play the whole game of Sonic 3&K. It's a romhack made by the same guy who later made sonic mania, Christian whitehead, and it combines both games into 1 as was originally planned, and has all these different options that you wouldn't expect to be there, like you can use the levels and layouts of any of the characters and play through them with any character, e.g. play through the full length game including death egg zone with knuckles, plus it has things like the original level order that was planned (until they had to split the game into two). In the original order, Flying Battery zone is in the sonic 3 half of the game, coming after carnival night zone and before ice cap. So the level transition to ice cap, in the original plan, was to have you fly out of the flying battery through the door, which came loose and fell off too, and then you snowboard down the mountain at the beginning on that door from flying battery instead of just a snowboard that happens to be there. All those options, and stuff like that, even level transitions, were painstakingly put in the romhack by Christian whitehead for _FREE_ with him obviously never charging anyone any money to download and play it. Yet, Sega expect us to pay £30 or whatever for sonic origins when it has absolutely nowhere near the same number of options as this romhack from 15 years ago The only thing is, I wonder if Sonic 3 Complete works on original hardware, an actual mega drive. Red Hot Sonic does videos about that so maybe he's done a video on this romhack specifically, I'll have to have a look. But, as it is, I have no desire to play the full sonic 3&K game in any other way than this romhack. It's the definitive way to play it. The only thing that'd make it even better would be if it were wide-screen, but that's no big deal really. The point of sonic games is to play them over and over, learning all the level layouts and enemy placement, so that you can go through the levels quicker and quicker. So you don't need to see what's coming up to know exactly what's coming up, you'll know regardless
@@They_are_Arthur Because it sounds like your usual fan entitlement. It's funny to hear so many people bitch over some video game music. Sega can't sell music that they don't have the rights to. It doesn't matter what you think you "deserve". You can't get it. Either stop complaining, or don't buy the game.
I'd rather have the ACTUAL prototype music than whatever the hell we were given. Besides, getting the rights to the original music is impossible now because it's not just Michael Jackson's estate they have to deal with but like a bunch of other composers like Brad Buxer. Why else did it take so long for Headcanon to announce the soundtrack to be used in the Sonic 3 portion of the game in between the first trailer, and said announcement?
I really don't get why people complain about this so much because this was out of Sega's control, they didn't have the legal rights to the old tracks anymore. People have already made mods to patch back in the original music, so it's not even really an issue
Because the game itself is sh!t while the soundtrack is the only thing worth giving a crap about. If it weren't the case, there wouldn't be so much crying about hard times. Also, the 40 dollar price tag is brutal for 3.5 2d games that were made when Moses was a kid.
Funny thing about the newer Icecap OST is that it's actually been around for a VERY long time. I didn't know about the original song since i never got that far on the Mega Drive version. I did however have the PC version from AGES ago when Sonic 3 and Knuckles was on the CD-Rom for PC and the newer icecap song was already there.
I've been playing sonic 3 for the first time with the sega classics collection on steam. Didn't know until today it still hosts the original songs on that version. Feeling lucky.
Nah I only bought it so I could play S3@K since there's no other way to play the game other than playing it online with terrible touch screen controls, and the inability to save your progress. I just really wanted to play it since it's my favorite Sonic game, so I got it. The other 3 games I already have on my phone so I didn't really care for them.
It sucks that they couldn't secure those rights from Jackson's estate and I do accept it. Though this does represent our feelings on the matter as fans lol.
I don't hate the new one, but the old one I can't listen to without the image of one of those big camping coolers just in my head, and that's pretty chilly
I was also quite annoyed when the original ice cap music was changed, but if i had to be honest, i dont see why everyone dislikes the new one. It's not that bad
Why is everyone mad at sonic origins for not using music from an early version 💀💀💀💀sonic fans get mad at everything just like an early version of frontiers
That track used to represent Origins isn’t even from Origins it’s from the actual prototype build. It does use the same song as the prototype but it sounds distinctly different.
This is how I learned about "Hard Times" by the Jetzons, and how that's basically how Ice Cap Zone Act 1's theme came to be. A meme from SpongeBob criticizing the prototype song used in a collection.
Hold up, Sonic Origins is a remaster of the classic titles and it makes sense for a remake of a game to have new original songs. Super Sonic in Sonic 3 is an example because they wanted to avoid using invincibility song for Super Sonic. I understand that people don’t like the new songs but it’s the matter of opinion. Carnival Night, Ice Cap, and Launch Base zones in both Classic and Anniversary Mode are both good because they both fit the zones well in my opinion. I love the idea of making new songs for the remake version aka the Anniversary/Mirror (And Yes Mirror is Technically Anniversary Mode but it’s flipped).
Thank God, cuz they knew it would get fans an uproar about it. Not to mention they could've kept it all there and the prototype songs and what have you in Sonic Origins Plus instead of that watered down mess.
Well, i'm sorry i have to say this but i don't like old Ice Cap zone's theme because it's so wildly overrated and while the new Ice Cap zone theme is not getting much love. The new Ice Cap zone theme needs more love.
