​@@KrisLuckPhoto, several years ago, Camnostic website performed in-depth analysis to answer the question why R5 camera needed a new battery type. They found better battery performance for power demanding modes for two thirds of the total charge. In other words, they found an improvement. Now, a lot of people are asking the "WHY new battery" question again and treating the battery-related statements from Canon as fake. If this is such a huge problem, don't buy the new camera. There are many other good choices. This is like men wanting to buy a high performance vehicle, then complaining that it requires high octane gasoline. You could ask the company for a "retro R5" operational mode that works with the older battery, but I don't expect they will comply.

Sony has shitty handheld ibis for videos. Canon has shitty wobble for video. If you're using a gimbal, Sony is better.

maybe you have a setting on that requires the more powerful battery. Check ur settings, then try again with the old battery. Mine works with the H battery.

Yeah I agree, which is why I am wondering how you can have 4k30, but not 4k24 or 1080 24. That is LESS demanding power yet it’s “not available due to battery?”

@@multipolar101 i’ll tell you this, the new battery(new P battery in R5II) isnt much better in terms of life (comparing the lp6nh in the r5)

The wobble is really bad for anything under 20mm it seems, however on longer lenses Canon does offer really good video stabilization

I agree with the frustration. I’m not switching, I tested the camera with some bears yesterday with the new battery and it works flawless. But nowhere did anyone mention you couldnt access basic record settings

I wonder if anybody is paying you... There is a video on YT showing that it is quite easy to remove the cover, but it requires two hands. Certainly a nuisance, but not a reason to return the camera. There is also a great video explaining why people should not be obsessed with a small decrease in DR when the electronic shutter is used. The usage of the ES and the max FPS does not make much sense if the desire is to maximize the DR. Nothing is perfect and this is not a $10,000 camera.

@@riotrob Yeah, I was frustrated. I am not paid by anybody. I enjoy photography. I am not the only one who had an issue with the hot shoe cover. I just find it amazing that Canon did not identify this prior to shipment. I have an R6M2 that has been flawless. One of the things that also got me riled up was the fact that the camera arrives, and Canon still had not put the manual on the website. It took several days after the official release date. Come on. Canon could do better. As for the dynamic range issue, I do not know. I rarely use the electronic shutter. I am content with the 12 fps of the mechanical shutter. I will probably never even test for the dynamic range. My only concern is having a beautiful picture on my wall, and enjoying the memory of that moment in time. I had recently traded in all of my Nikon gear that I accumulated over the past 25 years. Time moves on. Technologies will continue to change. I never had any issue with my Nikon bodies or lenses. My experience with Canon is in its' infancy. I know some of you are devout Canon fans. I had no intention of denigrating your view. My frustrations are my own. I still have my R5M2, and it works. As it turned out, I did get a replacement hot shoe cover that worked better. My experiences with the R5M2 is still a work in progress. If I had to make a hard decision about keeping the R6M2 or the R5M2, the R5M2 would be gone. In time, my view my change.

@paullanoue5228 I agree. Just buy the batteries and go and take some photos. All sorts of non technical people making specious assumptions about the power requirements of the camera.

After shooting more with the camera now and successfully getting new batts, it's crystal clear, especially when shooting in 10bit 420 or 422 / 120fps, that it's taking some WICKED energy to produce such a remarkable image. It's funny, I ran out of battery on the markII at an event tonight, switched over to the regular R5 which I've shot on for years now, and the difference in EVERYTHING from the auto focus to the clarity of image (both from the lcd & viewfinder) to the stabilization and minor to no crop is SO WORTH a battery swap I can't even adequately describe it. I will gladly invest in a grip and a few extra batts to have the fully power this camera possesses. Heck, 120 WITH AUDIO.....stop it. It's too freeking good. I'm absolutely OBSESSED with this body now. So much so I'm ready to dump my 2 R5's and C70 and get 2 more of the markII bodies. And the ability to toggle so seamlessly between photo & video is legendary and something lumix, sony & nikon all lack. It's the best hybrid mirrorless cam on the planet right now (for what I do).

Yes. I am curious to see what the battery life is like with that combination. The old R5 did not require anywhere near the power as this model.

Yes. The manual has been available on the Canon website for a while. I found it without any difficulty.

It’s easier for them to listen to a 16 year old talking head on line read them spec sheets. All they need to do is go on Canon’s website to get the facts. Then they are angry when they get surprised by something.

In terms of the image quality itself, I’d imagine they are nearly identical. With C Log 2 now in the R5II, it gives you the most dynamic range to work with and thats where this camera shines brightest!

Yes, im glad c3 is still custom video, however it is frustrating needing to take your hand off the lens to switch
