Flylady Diane -- MAGIC MINUTES -- “I don’t have the time!”
Have you ever said this? Guilty as charged, I know I have! Or how about this one…
“I’m leaving the house in 10 minutes, so I don’t have time to start anything.”
Flylady Melissa and I brainstormed the things that we do when we’re waiting for the coffee to brew, waiting at the doctor’s office, waiting for the kids to be ready to leave the house, etc, etc, etc. So go set your timer. It’s time to use those Magic Minutes and FLY!
If you have 1 to 2 minutes you can:
● Put on lace up shoes
● Shine your sink
● Swish a toilet
● Swipe a sink or counter
● Wipe down a mirror
● Start the laundry
● Clear off a hotspot
● Declutter a few items from a shelf/drawer/cabinet
● Straighten the contents of a shelf or cabinet
● Load the dishwasher
● Remove ‘science projects’ from the fridge
● Take out the trash
● Hang up coats in the hallway
● Collect the dirty laundry from one room
● Remove junk from your handbag/purse/wallet
● Remove rubbish/trash from your car
● Check your calendar
● Text a friend or family member
● “Pretty up” the couch/sofa, fluff up the cushions
● Gather up newspapers/magazines for recycling
● Throw out/shred junk mail
● Put on lipstick and mascara
● Refresh your makeup
● Rub in hand cream
● Spritz yourself with water or perfume
● Kiss your partner
● Give your kids a hug
● Practice smiling
● Look in the mirror and say “I can do this!”
● Look in the mirror and say “I love you!”

I learned about the 2 minute rule a couple of months ago. This list will really help me on those bad days or when I am waiting for something--those little things always add up. I have started just wiping or cleaning up something that catches my eye, even for a second. It is a hard habit to keep going, but I know I can do this. Step by step :)

Ha ha! 'Kiss your partner or significant other- or both!' That made me laugh or loud😂 In two minutes I made a dental appointment and ordered a repeat prescription- I've been putting that off for days like it was this onerous task?!?

I've now used a timer for the first time. I swished and swiped 2 bathrooms, folded and put away a dry wash, fixed the livingroom and shine my sink. Each task took just about 2 minutes. It feels great!

In 2 min's I swiped my counters and wiped down appliances and still had time to watch the birds hop around in our dogwood tree which is in full bloom right outside our big kitchen window. I love the timer and the routines, especially the morning one. The kiddos I nanny arrive at 730-8am and it's so nice to be relaxed, ready and happy when they arrive.

I had unscrewed the 3 globe light fixtures in the chandelier above our kitchen table yesterday when working in the "zone" and had washed them and left them to dry overnight. This morning I almost "procrastinated" and thought, "I'll wait until this afternoon when working back in the zone missions to replace those.." But....I stopped and just did it NOW. It only took 2 minutes to screw them back in this am and replace the light bulbs. Now, the chandelier is even better than just dusted...it shines!

Hi, Diane, I can’t believe, I’ve never tried the truth of these 2x 15 Minutes: prepare, pupa and wait for rising, baking even less than 15 minutes… today we’ve your mum's minestrone with these rolls, surprise for hubby, who likes bread with the soup… I think it’s nice for you, too, to watch back from time to time or at least to put up a link for us. I took a bit of sugar on a damp finger and did a little scrub of my flakey lips and put on lip balm AND I picked up some dirty clothes, put them in the hamper and hung up a pair of pants. You can actually do quite a bit.

I found you through flylady Kat, I just love you ladies! Every outfit you wear is absolutely adorable! Here in America things have become so lax that people do not take care to dress for the day anymore. It is a shame the breakdown of common social habits. Yes, I know I am "old school or old fashioned". I hope to see a clip or picture of you with your son, every time you mention him my heart aches for you. That is so hard when they leave the "nest". Three of our four are married and living life, but I still miss when they were all young and all under our roof. Thank you for sharing your life, take care and God bless & keep you ~

That was fun! I used two minutes to wipe down a mirror and a sink, and then used another 2 minutes to quickly wipe the kitchen floor with the same rag.

I don't know if this counts for the list, Diane, but It only takes one or two minutes to Google a recipe and add it to a rotating meal plan. It can be a long and daunting list to make a meal plan for a fortnight or month (my family don't like repeat meals any more frequently than a month apart) especially if you trying to limit your calories/gluten or increase veggie content etc. but if you just spend 2 minutes finding something to add to the rotation you'll end up with a list without the stress. I'm now going to reboot my laundry for 2 minutes. I had a laundry issue last night (burst pipe) and thought thank goodness I don't have mount washmore in here anymore if I have to call a repairman! I had a small load waiting (now soaked) but is manageable to get it dry before he comes. And I can still keep up (cold wash only) 😊 Thanks Diane for keeping me motivated. I'm enjoying your videos very much. Could you do an "about me" video if you haven't already done one? How many children you have, where they are (you mention you haven't seen your son for a long while), maybe a tour of your neighborhood (if you feel comfortable showing that). Are you an old trekker only or do you love Pike and Quinto as much as Shattner and Nemoy? I love them all, and really got into Next Gen and Voyager series years ago See you tomorrow!

I wiped down a kitchen unit and on the bottom of it . The section of wall underneath ,and wall socket , all done while waiting for my latte to heat in the microwave .:)

Dearest Diane, I'm a 9-day old Flybaby and you know what my struggle is??? Staying dressed to laces all day long. When I come home from work (about 5 p.m.), I like to take off my "school" (work) clothes since I mostly have them dry cleaned. So I like to get more than one wear out of each item of clothing at least depending on what it is. Plus I usually am hot when I get home after spending a day at the office in Antartica!!! I wear a lot of white (or light colored) blouses so I don't want a red sauce or something to accidentally blob onto my clothes while I'm fixing dinner for myself. This prob is against the rules ... what is the solution??? Thanks for your lovely videos & smiling calming voice!!! Alice from Alabama.

Hi Alice! Flylady isn't about wearing laceup shoes all the time...we wear them when we are working (doing our routines/Weekly Home Blessing/decluttering etc) but we can take them off when we are done. When you are doing the Flylady system, you no longer have to work *all the time* because we are saving time/energy by following small routines. Hi Alice, I also change out of my professional work clothes when I get home from work into something more comfortable and my indoor shoes. I just make sure that I still look presentable for company - my rule is that I should still be able to run an unexpected errand outside if needed. 😊
