I Don't Like Reactions...

I really love the idea of a change on the channel, I was introduced to the channel from the Dead End: Paranormal Park reactions but I also really enjoy looking deeper into concepts and characters in cartoons and I’m sure I’ll enjoy the other ideas you have for newer content anyway!

I liked hearing your thoughts on this. I started watching this channel because of the contrast between yours and your brother's impressions, you with your "whee darkness" vibes and him with the "oh no, this upsetting thing is upsetting" vibes. Based on which sorts of reaction styles you mentioned actually liking, I strongly recommend Cinema Therapy. Similar style to watch you described enjoying, analyzed by a therapist and a film producer. The therapist discusses mental health topics tied to whatever movie they're looking at, and the producer talks about how elements of the movie do or do not effectively convey impactful messages and concepts. Edit: Alec is missed! It would be wonderful to have him back, if time allows and it brings him joy and such, of course.

Can't say I won't be missing you (and Alec) when season three of Vox Machina rolls around, but I have a ton of respect for you taking this stance with your stuff going forward. I'll probably remain subscribed just to see what you roll out with, but even if I don't stick around for the long haul, I wish you the best of luck.

I started watching reactions to Steven Universe and Legend of Korra because no one I knew in person liked cartoons as much or the same ones as me. So watching others react makes me excited for them and watch it for the first time through them, and also heard so many interesting things from insights from their personal experiences or things I never noticed or would have connected on my own. Sometimes react videos just feels like watching with friends, and I think that's where the community starts. I must be awful for the algorithm, I click on a video so its on my history to watch later, or I watch at higher speeds to watch the entire thing quicker Also agree that reacting with Alec is better due to the contrast 😂 Love a good video essay (sometimes they use a reaction highlight to highlight a part of the video) of my fave shows or introduce me to shows I should watch. Hester or Jester, can't wait to see what you guys do next because your authentic love for these things has me a fan for life no matter what happens 😊

Let me give you my take on reactions. Those of us who consume them do so for a couple of reasons. 1. We love the subject of the reaction. The more we love the thing, the more we want to see it spread. In that sense, we will scour the youtubes looking for multiple channels to react to this thing we love. 2. We love the reactors. Not all reactors are created equal. Some have more natural charisma, better editing, or just a more effusive personality that is enjoyable to watch. Some of what plays into this are how much the reactors are impacted by what they're watching. Are they laughing uproariously, or balling like a baby? Solo reactors, I feel, are at a disadvantage here, as it's just them sitting alone in a room watching a show or movie. The best channels, in my opinion, have two or three reactors. Too many, and everything is muddled or diluted. But having the reactors able to play off of each other adds an additional element. Sometimes they dynamic is that one or more reactors have seen it already, and are introducing one or more newbies, or they're all coming to it fresh together. Have them all reacting to it after having seen it already? Boring. Another huge factor is authenticity. At least in whether people are watching your reaction for you, as opposed to the content you're consuming. Playing it up, or forcing over-the-top reactions is cringe. People area very good at detecting bullshit. It's hard to fake being genuine. So if you want to have genuine reactions, you better be into the thing you're watching, and into having a reaction channel. If not, you're going to burn out, and the quality of the videos will suffer. Let me bring it closer to home. I got onto your channel via your Vox Machina reactions. It's a show I'm a massive fan of, and so have watched many different channels react to it. I really enjoyed the videos you put out with your brother. You guys were charismatic, fun, and had a good dynamic together. I didn't consume much of your content outside of that, because our interests don't have that much crossover. I'm not a huge cartoon guy (though a big fan of some select ones). And when your brother was no longer showing up, I wasn't terribly interested. Not that I have anything against yourself, just, as I said, there's a different dynamic with two of you. So do what gets you excited. Be genuinely yourself. And if your channel starts dying because you're not "chasing the algorithm", well then maybe it's time to move on and do other things. Don't grind yourself down putting out content that you view as a chore. Do it so long as it's bringing you joy, and let those who are drawn to that content find you. Oh, and fire spinning? That's wild. Never caught that bit about you before. But if you guys react to Vox season 3, I'll find your videos, and will be hoping it's the two of you again.

I'd love to see more analysis style videos from you. I would also be excited to see Alec rejoin. There will always be an element of showmanship, but the videos are more enjoyable when you feel excited and invested. I look forward to seeing the direction you take the channel.

Even though reactions to centaurworld were what got me to click on initially, it was the discussions you and your brother had that were interesting and kept me coming back. Glad to see you move on from something that made you miserable. Can’t wait to see what you do next

Not going to lie this makes me sad. I don't know what your new content is going to be like or whether or not it's going to be for me, but I understand you needing to do what makes you feel fulfilled. And honestly I have noticed the dispassion, specifically there was a condescending overtone to the opening to your video reviewing the Hazbin songs that rubbed me the wrong way. It's definitely important to make sure that you care about the content you're creating, and whether I stay on board or not I hope that you are able to cultivate an audience that loves and supports the things you're actually passionate about

If you don't enjoy it you wouldn't be fun to watch anyway. So go have fun. I'll stay subbed and check out what you do in search of the same feeling of sharing something you love with others.

I think this is such a difficult but important decision to come to. It must have been tough feeling like you need to create reaction videos without understanding what the hype was about. I think that's an experience that a lot of content creators face, especially when they go viral for one particular kind of content. It might be scary to start over looking for an audience, especially if content creation is your job, but in the long run, it's not good to force yourself to do something you dislike. It's interesting to hear that reaction videos for you are essentially like rewatching content. I'm similar in that I cannot rewatch something. No matter how hard I try or how much I love the show/movie, I get bored watching something when I already know what's going to happen. I don't get anything new from it. I watch reaction videos because reactors add that something new. There are tons of reaction channels where the person kind of just sits there, maybe laughs, but doesn't comment anything, and I personally can't stand those. If nothing substantial is added, it's essentially just reuploading the original content. I look for reactors that are good at picking out background details that are easy to miss, discuss subtext in a story or character, provide opinions about the content or the crew behind it, construct theories and predictions, or give interesting insight on how something was animated, or the quality of the voice acting or singing, or how a live-action shot was accomplished. For example, with Hazbin Hotel (and Helluva Boss), because I'm not familiar with musical theater or musicals in general, it was interesting seeing reactors with a bit more knowledge in that area provide a different perspective and point out things I wouldn't have noticed. For me, It doesn't need to be an expert. It's just nice to watch the show from another perspective, and think about things more deeply through people that are just as passionate and fully engaged as I am.

Honestly, I did start watching you for reactions. I personally enjoy the reaction videos for like 3 reasons... 1. Sometimes, the reactor notices things I do not or connect things differently than me. 2. I get to see people enjoying things that I do so I don't feel alone, and it makes me happy to know others laugh at the same things as me. 3. It is vicarious joy for me, like watching your sibling or friend eating something you like. You can't help but watch it. Centaur world is awesome and yet not many people watch it. I can understand how watching alone can feel weird and just kinda sucky. To be fair, as long as there is a reaction then the reaction video is nice. I personally enjoy unedited reactions BECAUSE some parts are edited that I wanted to see. Also "I've broken the law in my youth....totally not anymore" cracked me up. I enjoy multiple reactors because they bounce off eachother♡ I respect you not doing reactions though. That is your choice and I can understand why you would prefer to not do things. I will stay on as a member because since you enjoy cartoons and I would love you reading theories people have and having a yay or nay on why you believe it would be fun. I definitely think making fun games out of what you enjoy would be fun♡☆ Good luck with the overhaul of the channel☆

I know you covered why your stopping reaction vids and it pretty much mirrors what Alec said a while back but let me offer an audience perspective. Theirs a LOT of fake "first-time" reaction content out there that doesn't even review let alone discuss or examine the subject content... It's all for the YT algorithm which can 'obviously f*ck off! Now while i didn't participate in the channel before CentaurWorld 'Hester Bros was a welcome fresh face to the scene imo, it focused exclusively on cartoons and (i believe at least) the reactions were genuine. You and your brother had the perfect dynamic to discuss stuff in a way that *was* exploring not just the content of the shows but was also drawing on the history of animation for comparisons from your own exposure to it and i think that's what sold me on your channel being a cut above the others. I think my favorite video of you both on this channel is High Seas Adventure from the Cuphead Show; From the instant you realized which level of the game it was to the mindless destruction on the boat, Alec's dislike of the first song, Mugman shattering the captains legs, the wtf moment with the crab leaving you stunned before turning around into Fantasia vibes from Cala-Maria's song and *then* Cuphead dying at the end XD. That definitely looked like you were both having fun with that one. Doing it solo was always gonna be a challenge and obviously it's your channel so you do you but don't take away the stuff you've already uploaded. It's no joke that the video games industry and the animation industry are in trouble all because the people at the top think they can change the landscape to create the illusion of infinite growth... AI-generated art/voices, eradicating physical media so you don't own anything when it comes to preservation, even retroactively changing Terms of Service just so publishers get more money from creators/developers... An that money doesn't even go back into supporting 'em. Hell i didn't even know Glitch productions was an Australian based studio (in my own backyard) untill the Amazing Digital Circus popped-up in my recommendations (didn't like Murder Drones) because everything is more expensive down here... Seriously the only country that has us beat on that front is New Zealand. I know i'm rambling a bit but that just means i'll miss this stuff *YOUR* stuff. The takeaway for you is this... Your channel was important, it had a positive affect on my life during it's run and while i can imagine it feels weird to see yourself in that way... to me... it felt like Hester Bros brought something uncommon or rare to YT that made it special (i honestly couldn't tell you what it was though) whenever i dive back into the 80's or 90's stuff is when i'll miss you both the most.

What I liked was watching a passionate person sharing something he liked with their bro. To be frank, the dispassion that followed honestly peeved me. Even in this video I feel it. I think it's largely that if you're not having a good time, I'm having an equally bad time. I'm glad to hear you're not continuing and I hope you never need to talk about the experience again, I can't imagine that it was fun for anybody.
