That was SO MANY YEARS AGO and Yolanda was not in her right mind because of Lyme disease (my personality changed for 2 years, and I was a completely different person-like an evil twin of myself; it was before I had a diagnosis so I’d isolated myself from family and friends despite also being so sick. No one knows, and most don’t even believe these things about late stage Lyme disease until you or someone you live with has it. It’s shocking, traumatic, and feels helpless for all involved. I don’t give Yolanda a free pass, though. I’ve spent years apologizing to my brother’s best friend who was living with us the summer after my senior year of college (I had to leave school early bc I was sick)-I was so so mean to him and my mom specifically (even though my mom is the best human on the world, it made no sense) and I was just a different human. There’s something called “Lyme rage”-and that’s for a good reason. Just….when you don’t know what’s truly going on in people’s lives….maybe we should let them live. We know they have a good relationship now.
