Homelander getting roasted by Gus and listening that his heartbeat doesn't change is basically the same as getting roasted by Pinocchio and his nose doesn't grow
Did you say Two? Lol. You must be young. He's played a villain pretty much his entire acting career. Star Wars Mandeloreon he's the villain. Far Cry 6 video game he's a villain.
@@Winskl9010not exactly, HL thinks because Stan shows zero fear towards him that he actually might have a way to neutralize or even kill him at anytime, he’s so uncertain because Stan was there from the inception and basically created him
In the comics, Homelander is intimidated by him because he is one of the very few people if not the only one who does not fear him or even death for that matter. It shatters Homelander’s pride so killing him would just prove him right and Homelander knows it. Instead, he sulks and tries to find a way to come out on top because of his bruised ego.
@@Chriscea nuclear blasts can fry compound V from his blood. Other than that, Air defense systems and military lasers can kill him as well (yes, the world has lasers far more powerful than him). Queen Maeve was able to injure him, so vought can probably create supes specifically to destroy him.
@@DragonOfTheMortalKombati agree homelanders feats (if we wanna get into “PoWeRScaLinG”) is around building level. We see from Starlight that she can take rounds from a .50 cal sniper and that it causes some damage. Enough to knock her down, knock the wind out of her. And pretty much incapacitated her completely. While home lander has significantly higher durability than her, he was injured by Queen Maeve. Its not unreasonable to assume Starlight could be killed by a armor piercing round, or even a tank round. Homelander would (purely speculative here) likely take the same amount of damage from a tank round that starlight took from the sniper Butcher shot her with. The problem isn’t that homelander is indestructible by any means, its just that he’s too AGILE to hit with any conventional weapons that could hurt or even kill him. Apart from nuclear. Those would definitely kill him instantly but also a-lot of civilians likely. Missiles and other high powered explosives would be the only chance of the military. Also I think a dog fight between 3 - 4 highly skilled F22 fighter pilots and homelander would end in US victory just based on his “feats” the AIM missiles should be enough to destroy him.
That’s my favorite part about Stan’s character. Homelander can hear his heartbeat, and he knows that Stan doesn’t fear him, which is why home lander said he used to be scared of Stan. When someone is so supremely confident and unassuming, it’s unnerving because you wonder what makes them so confident. It’s the fear of the unknown.
@@Sevan_UP yes, but that also begs the question as to why Stan would not fear him. Does he have a secret way to kill Homelander? It’s something that he must consider because Stan is not afraid. In Homelanders mind he is the strongest superhero in the world, and nobody can stand up to him, so even if Stan was super he still wouldn’t fear him.
Before I die I need to see Giancarlo Esposito win an oscar, dude he deserves it it doesnt matter wich villain interpretes always makes me feel fear I love this man
Remember that an Oscar is for brilliant MOVIE performances. Most of Esposito’s best work has been in the realm of television, which generally means you’re looking for Emmy Awards. It looks like he hasn’t won any of those (they are hard to win), but he does have several awards to his name already, mostly for his role in Breaking Bad/Better Call Saul. EDIT: Funny enough, he got nominated for a Primetime Emmy in 2012, but lost to … Aaron Paul (“YEAH BITCH!”). He’s gotten several other Emmy nominations since, but again, there is so much good TV-style content, it is VERY difficult to actually win one.
Most of the great things he has been in are TV shows, so Golden Globe is closer to the mark I think. Still, no one needs an award to be honored and appreciated like this man has.
Remember, Homelander can tell if your heart is racing or you are starting to perspire if you are lying, nervous, or scared. You can see the moment Homelander realizes Stan isn’t lying, nervous or scared. Almost a deflation of his previous aggressive tone and stature when he tilts his head up ever so slightly. Amazing.
I love it. Homelander was expecting Stan would be scared after he stood up, but all he got was a calm and blunt answer. Homelander gets off at people that are scared of him. That's why he made that little grimace at the end. He knew, even he killed him at that time, everything he said was true.
It goes deeper than that homelander can hear your heart rate and blood pressure, even if you keep a perfect Poker Face he'll know that you're scared of him. Stan Edgar's (which is this show's version of James Stillwell from the comics) heart rate never goes up when talking to homelander because he's not afraid of him
Actually. Homelander gets off at people loving/worshiping him. He even said so himself and could get the entire world to fear him in an afternoon if he so pleased.
I suspect that the toughest of the Super Heroes is actually Stan himself. I know if I ran the company I would make sure I was totally enhanced and have a drug that unmakes unruly superheroes.
@@thephoenix4093 the chicken that people fear because of its bad taste general gus kicked him out of the los pollos and now homechickenlander is missing
He does his best acting when Homelander is vulnerable. Seeing that look in his eyes, the worry, anger and insecurity all in one look. He truly deserves an emmy for his Homelander portrayal
In the comics, homelander is afraid of him and has never tried to kill him because he never shows any kind of emotion towards him. Not fear, nor shock, not even just being mildly annoyed.
@@DBZ_AnimeWORLD As the person before me stated, Butcher does have emotions towards him. More precisely - hate. Homelands still changed his life and had an influence on him. While in the original case. Instead, you can't say the same.
And that genuinely bothers Homelander. Homelander loves the fun of killing when he does it. If you dont show ANY emotion at his violence or threats, he isn't having fun. He's threatened. He knows he can win physically. He WANTS to win mentally and emotionally. This guy literally tells homelander that he would open a window to help him throw him out of it. Edit: He had a migraine and wanted to jump to end it. He didn't offer to help Homelander chuck him out of it. I apologize.
Translation "when everybody's super, no one will be". Gus basically said "wait till the public finds out about the Homelander serum and you're no longer the special Golden boy"
basically lmao. Once the public finds out, once the public can get their hands on it through means by the government who in the show has shown to be against Vought. Homelander will basically be Golden boy number 1,233,433 meanwhile the other millions of dudes in front of him would be (by chance) stronger and faster Homelanders.
@daoyang223 idk man. One of the reasons homelamder is so strong is because 1. He was able to withstand way more compound v than regular humans and 2. His mother's womb was filled with compound v so idk if just anyone could be stronger than him
@@justincruz5720 bruh have you not seen how he put homlander in check. Homlander wanted to kill him like he would anyone that stand up to him but he know he cant kill him because he has a leash around his neck 🤦♀️
he is great at portraying the calm type of villain, the very intelligent running things in the background while the people love the puppet he has in place
I really like that about him too. The way he twitches his mouth and eyes really sells the idea that he’s trying very hard not to lose his shit EDIT: I watched it again and also noticed that Homelander like scans Edgar’s face for any signs of fear when he first stands up but when Edgar doesn’t show any (and his heart rate doesn’t increase, further cementing that it’s not just a bluff) it throws Homelander off and he doesn’t know what to say or do next
Stan Edgar is too smart, too calculating, thinks too far ahead to have created something like Homelander without having some secret in his back pocket that will take Homelander down. Whether it's some kind of "kryptonite" or a hidden secret power of his own, Stan has *_something._*
Have you watch the show? I’m not gonna spoil it, but Stan Egger just left the company with no questions asked Edit: I have nothing against Stan Edgar. All I’m saying is black, nor was Stan Eggers kryptonite for homelander. Now he’s dead Stan Edgar is not even in the casting for the next season, nor have the directors even said anything about him coming back. I love Stan Eggers character, and I wish him to come back, but he’s not coming back for a while.
I always feel like the people who piss Homelander off the most are untouchable. He won’t kill them because in his twisted mind, if he resorts to killing them instead of proving them wrong, they win. Anyone else, he kills.
That’s a interesting way to look at it I always thought it was because he feeds of fear so if ur afraid of him he’ll probably kill u because he’s sadistic. Butcher and Edgar aren’t afraid of him even though they know he’s a million times more powerful than them and in homelanders mind if he kills them he’s not gonna get any satisfaction out of it
It's less people who piss him off and more people who are indifferent to him. Edgar isn't afraid of him he sees him as a petulant man child always throwing a tantrum. Homelander has a need for peoples approval so the moment you view him as the living god that he is it's over for you.
Edgar being his superior Homelander want his approval because he his The boss he knows Edgar is insanely good at what he does and respect that , as for Butcher him being only human and going this far it impressed Homelander and gain his respect ,he call him William he his the only one he considers as somewhat an equal because they are as fcked up in the head .
Giancarlo is the perfect Actor to play the Villain that doesn’t have to threaten you. Just stare and give ominous lines. While practically calling you in a very kind and crude way “You World Class S Tier Fucked up.”
Everyone appreciates Giancarlo for his incredible acting… it’s well deserved… but no one acknowledges how well this character and his lines were written…
I think its both that deserve credit, the lines and the character are of course expertly written but i do feel Giancarlo really delivered a performance to match. Seeing his responses to homelander you really do get that feel of a lack of fear in him.
The character in the comics is good too. Done in a different approach from the show but still similar in knocking homelander down and reminding homelander about who he is. I hope they add one of the comic lines to the show it’s perfect for this character
Homelander always know theres something seriously off with Gus.He the only person that never afraid of Homelander and in pretty sure theres a reason of his confidence.
I think the greatest moment of restraint he's had was when he didn't actually laser all the people protesting outside of vought, straight up booing him, flipping him off, saying he doesn't speak for them. All of them, who's love he depends on to thrive. But, I guess the fact that he just lasered someone's head off in front of the nation for throwing something at Ryan just throws my opinion out the window. He's losing restraint and tolerance now and he's gonna become more unhinged than he already is.
It wouldn’t do Homelander any good to go after Gus or to threaten Vought in any way. If he EVER became a serious threat and started actively trashing them, they’ll release supers to take him down. Or worse, they’ll juice themselves up with cV and jump him. Homelander would be done if he ever totally flipped and went nuts. It would be a stupid move and he knows it.
@@mariolawrence897 I feel like most supes would probably side with homelander over edgar, why risk your life fighting the strongest man in the world over a change in managment especially when homelander is probably more sympathetic with a lot of supes who are tired of being a corporate puppets and want real power. Not a single supe stepped up to oppose HL when he ousted edgar either out of greed, fear, or geniune loyalty.
Dude, I've never seen the actor they picked for Homelander before, but he plays the part perfectly, please tell me he got some kind of an award for his performance.
You know what always made me chuckle? The entire cast were on some talk show and the question came up - "Who is most like their character?" Unanimously and simultaneously they all turned and pointed at Anthony Starr lol
@@byronrush9802 its because most writers in thr modern era write him and stronger, faster and tougher than most of the heroes and villains combined, that he has to be dumbed down for plot. I miss the days the Justice League existed because Superman couldn't do everything, not the current version that exists to prop him up for salivating fanboys who hypocritically flip their shit anytime someone gets the better of Superman and call it writer fanboyism. The fact that many of the writers are chosen due to political clout rather skill also contributes to the lack of quality. For example, Tom King seems to exist to shove one leftist political view after the other into every comic he writes till it tanks and gets cancelled, then he gets into the next book, rinse and repeat. The fact that everything he makes a cry about has been represented in comics with nuance since day one is lost on him, unlike his hammering insistence only the side he supports is correct and others are wrong.
@@shjp2148 yeah I also miss that version of Superman because he was allowed to grow and make mistakes and acknowledge he can't do it all that's the whole point of the Justice League He doesn't have to do it all, it's because of the existence of the league he's allowed to have a life and he doesn't feel guilty taking Lois on dates when somebody's in danger or there's a national disaster because the League will probably handle it, as you said the writers current era do not care they're there because they are all for kissing ass The actual talented writers have been removed for being problematic AKA giving the readers what they want that has been selling comics/animated series for years
@@byronrush9802 and that's what was reflected in the Justice League movie. If everybody is a joke compared to him, what's the point of the team. Remember, as late as in 2018 in the comics Wonder Woman managed to defeat an enhanced and mind-controlled Superman by outmaneuvering him with her skill, but everyone else acts as if that never happened.
The fact that these two haven’t gotten numerous nominations for acting awards or won a bunch is a mockery of the whole award show world. These are some of the best actors I have ever seen. The insane control over minuscule emotions and facial expressions whilst making it look so natural is incredibly difficult and impressive. It’s unbelievable how they aren’t regarded as some of the best actors in the world.
Seriously brilliant actors. Notice the flurry of emotions on homelander and the stoic confidence of his boss. Just brilliant. I can’t wait for the next season.
Wants to scare Stan….still fears him enough to call him sir😂 Edit: omg get 3.2k likes and now everyone has an opinion. Look to me….he said sir bc he understands that Stan and Vaught bankroll his existence. Stan isn’t the least bit worried about Homelander. There’s contingencies in place for that. All I was saying is that he came into his office all high and mighty and left with his tail between his legs
@@justdeadnow1404even Stan calls him out on it in s3 then rubs salt in the wound by calling him a failed product that never lived up to his expectations
@@justdeadnow1404honestly, we all would have those as well, going through what he did. I don't really like the character, but yeah. You gotta feel for the dude who was raised in a lab without mom or dad... For better or worse, he's a decently written character who plays a "bad guy"
Homelander had never dealth with anyone who wasn't scared of him. Man-child that he is, he imediatelly backs down from something he doesn't know how to deal with. This is something they keep from the original character in the comics, too.
@@CidGuerreiro1234 It was the same way when he Fought Soldier Boy. Homelander is not a Warrior, he is just a Bully. When someone who can put up a fight confronts him, he doesn't know what to do. But that's what makes him relateable and a great character!
@@megi-2821 lol. looks like someone needs to look up the definition of an insult. Cause if calling the person who just embarrassed you “sir” is an insult, then idk how you managed to put your pants on this morning.
Giancarlo is such an eerie actor when it comes down to his roles, he rarely shows emotion and it hits with the audience, he’s certainly an Oscar worthy actor
Ppl thinking this guy isnt afraid of homelander when its not even that its because homelander knows that this guy always tell him the straight truth with no bs attached
Homelands can tell when someone is scared of him by listen to their heartbeat but woth him homelands can't read him at all and it gets to him alot but homelands still respect that fact about him and doesn't kill him cause he's someone who's as you said he's brutally honest and that's something homelands doesn't have much of
