You inspired me to make the trip to MOAB from GA with just my service dog. Planned this trip years ago watching and waiting bed ridden told it was ok to let go. Not me fight like the veteran I am and beat death. You’re such an inspiration to many.

One of the most interesting observations from my trip was tire wear. We had a Land Cruiser with Toyo's and a 4 Runner with Falken's. One was cracked and chunked, the other blemish free so different that the cracked and chunked owner changed tires when home. We lost a windshield too on the mad rock slinging dash away from the ferry. 3 1/2" double circle dinger!

This is a trip that has been on my bucket list to do now for many years. A couple of good friends who did this trip on their motorcycles 15 years ago have also now ridden all the way down to Ushuaia, the farthest south you can go in Patagonia, South America. Farthest north and farthest south that you can get to by road.

We went to Tuk last summer and it was, surprisingly, one of the warmest days of our summer travels. I think it was June 30th and it was 29C / 84F. Did not expect that! Regarding the dredge, if I remember correctly, the tour guide told us that that massive machine was run by just 4 people! Crazy!!

Brad I drove to Tuk last August from Minneapolis. There was sun in Dawson City and it then rained for the next 5-6 days. The Dempster was a muddy mess all the way to Tuk but well worth the trip. The rivers were so low that they were trucking supplies North to Inuvik and Tuk and given the mud, the trucks were struggling getting down and up to/from the ferries. Hope the ferries run and you make it all the way. Cheers

I lived in Fairbanks AK as a kid after my father was transferred to Ft Wainwright. It was the mid late 80s. Flights were crazy expensive and we were an Army family, so we drove. My father had the keys to the state - it was locked off from the public back then - and one summer we drove north to prudoe bay and all the way back south to Valdez. We did 3 round trips from Fairbanks to Alabama in the time I was there. 6 trips over the AlCan Hwy when a lot was still gravel. We cracked a windshield every trip, but never broke down. I never made it to Barrow and the Arctic Ocean, will have to make it back someday. We just called it camping, no over landing back then.

I haven't been on the Dempster hwy, but I have gone up the Dalton hwy.. Dalton is really beautiful and saw a lot of musk ox.. camped by a river one "night" and woke up with them surrounding the bronco. Also saw a lot of duck and some fox. Woke up with a moose basically looking into the roof top tent while having it's breakfast (that was at Denali) Was already wanting to get back up north, your videos are really helping to push me to do that sooner lol

As always, thanks for your Sitrep. We did that trip in August 2010. Of course, Inuvik was the farthest you could drive then unless you drove on the river. At the Artic Circle marker we were in a zero visibility snow storm. We saw several bears in the Cranberry bogs eating the berries. We saw Caribou herds also. FYI, just across the Yukon River in Dawson City is a very nice campground. The ferry trip there and back is fun! We spent one night at the commercial campground in town to shower and do laundry but moved across the river the next day. Stop at the little museum on the left side of the road close to the Ferry Crossing of the Peel River its very interesting. I had an article published of our trip in Toyota Trails magazine.

Your adventure has brought back a lot of memories of our trip up there. Unfortunately we didn't drive up, so we booked a train/bus tour. Flew to Anchorage, went to Denali, then to Fairbanks, then to Tok. Supposed to continue by bus to Dawson City but they had a road wash out. They flew us into Dawson City Airport. Stayed a night in Dawson City. Took a tour up the Dempster Hwy. Took the Klondike Hwy to Whitehorse. Took the White Pass & Yukon Route Railway narrow gauge train to Skagway (the route the miners in the Klondike Gold Rush took between 1896 and 1899). Boarded the ship and toured Glacier Bay, then down to Vancouver to fly back to California. The trip of a lifetime! And as you said, the beauty of the Yukon and areas are incredible!

After coming back on the Dempster from Tuk, and lots of rain, my vehicle was covered completely by a layer of fine mud. It took almost an hour in Dawson City to kinda clean it off with a not so powerful, power wash. Make sure to get some Muktuk in Tuktoyaktuk. Btw, saw caribou and musk ox off in the distance but unfortunately not up close. The museum in Inuvik is worth a visit.

We just did the Dalton highway last week. We are planning on driving the Dempster next. We hear the Dempster is more scenic. Prudoe Bay is cool to experience but it’s kind of an anticlimactic end to a very expensive journey. Especially since you can’t legally drive to the Arctic Ocean. I really think the PanAmerican highway northern terminus should be moved to Tuktoyaktuk
