If you are ever really confused, then send someone this video of 3 polyglots saying "I don't understand" in 18 languages!
Note that I made a mistake because of translating too many phrases too quickly, and the German should read "Ich verstehe es nicht" or "Ich verstehe's nicht". Sorry I forgot that!
And since I don't speak Korean, I found the text online but I really should have double checked with a native speaker, or with Lindsay herself, since I wrote 모르겠습니다 and the correct way would have been 모르겠어니다.
Make sure to check out this video explaining these translations: • Benny, Olly & Lindsay ...
Huge thanks to / lindsaydoeslanguages
and / iwtyal for collaborating with me to make this video happen!

The german one should have been "Ich versteh's nicht" or more formal: "Ich verstehe es nicht". I think it sounds really weird without the "es". Something is just simply missing there

Ugh, you're right Ulrich! That's what I get for trying to translate too many phrases too quickly. That's a rookie mistake and it's on me for not thinking about it ahead of time. I'll add a note to the description so people can see to not forget the 'es' (or 's) like I did!

The irony of me making a video about confusion... and then having a mistake in the German (should have added 'es') and Korean (my fault, since it was with the text I put up while editing)! 😂😆😳😋

Goes to show that even experienced polygots can make simple mistakes and it's okay! I found that trying to be flawless is the biggest obstacle to learning a language.

Benny Lewis In the description Korean is still wrong. 모르겠습니다 is spelled correct in the video but it means I don't know.

The Korean one is incorrect unfortunately. It is spelled *모르겠습니다*, not 모르겠어니다, and the pronunciation was not too great. Hope this helps!

So sorry about that! I'll add the correction to the description, so others know that it isn't right. The bad written Korean was my fault, for not double checking with a native what I found online 😳, and the pronunciation was definitely better than what I would have done 😀

Ciao Benny gran video!!Un solo piccolo accorgimento: in italiano "non ho capito" sarebbe l'equivalente di "I haven't understood",la traduzione più corretta sarebbe "non capisco". Complimenti ancora per il lavoro,sono un tuo nuovo iscritto!

Difficile l'accento italiano....people try to recreate a southern Italian accent, I guess.

Hello Benny. Unfortunately it lacks the Quebec French which it's pronounced "je ne comprain paw".

Interesting that the Irish is _Ní thuigim_ while Scottish Gaelic uses _Chan eil mi a’ tuigsinn._ I assume _thuigim_ is a composed form of _tuig_ and _mi_ (In fairness it's possible there's a direct equivalent in GD that I'm just not aware of. Also _Ní ≡ Chan eil_.)

Isn't it 'Je ne comprend pas' in French?
@beniaminmalinski7597
@beniaminmalinski7597 7 лет назад
I think it should be "Je ne comprends pas".
@irishpolyglot

+Julian Cowpurse That's applied only universally in written French. In spoken French, the 'ne' isn't said in many situations. You'll hear it as Lindsay said it most of the time, outside of very formal contexts and beginner courses.
