I used to work at Old Navy staging the store, and generally they give you photos of what they want the outfits to look like, but one time we didn’t have any of the items, so the manager told me to “throw an outfit together” that included a more expensive item and went with the theme. It was like 4AM and I was tired and wanted to go home, so I put together what I thought was a hideous outfit. The next day when the store opened, some guy bought the EXACT outfit for his girlfriend. Couldn’t decide if I was an unintentional trendsetter or the guy had terrible taste.
I’m surprised at the fact that I liked a couple of those. H &m was a NO for me but loved that last look though you’re right I’d do a plain top under the jacket or just wear the top, but cute for sure
Off topic but, I have a theory: What if clothing stores have their clothes scattered around so if you ARE looking for a specific item, it would be "hidden". This causes you to stay longer and looking at other clothes you don't intend on buying, but buy it anyway. Giving the company more money. AGAIN this is just a theory.
Yeah it’s a thing. That’s also the reason why in supermarkets they (usually) have first necessity items in the back, like milk and bread. It’s for you to walk past all of their products and hopefully end up buying something else.
When I was in high school, my uncle (at a loss for a gift for a teenage girl) once gave me a whole mannequin outfit from the cool store in the mall. It was the one and only “outfit” I ever owned. All of my cousins were hella jealous.
For a second I misread this and thought you said he gave you a mannequin... I reread it, but the damage has already been done, as I want a mannequin now
I actually accidentally created a mannequin look for a store once! I went into a store I had never been in before with my friends and put together an outfit. When I came out to show my friends the store manager came over, complimented me, and asked if she could copy the look for a display. I agreed and the mannequin was up in the center of the store for 2 months! One of the only times I felt fashionable!

as a current francesca's employee mad props to the stylist who put together that mannequin. luckily our requirements for mannequins aren't crazy, they all just have to be in a similar color palette to the section they're in and include matching accessories

They give me bff vibes...as in when you become friends with someone its all nice and sweet in the beginning and then the real dun begin when you get comfortable and show them your crazy. And then you get to the point where you can predict eachother's crazy without thinking about it. Basically they are chandler and joey with monica and rachel from that question episode where the girls lose their house.
I've bought an outfit off of a mannequin before, but that was because I had an unexpected formal event in an hour and I had to run into the store, gesture frantically at the first dress I saw and say "give me that one"
I started watching Safiya's videos a few days ago, and I already went through a fair amount of them. I love the way she speaks, reminds me of the Nathan W. Pyle alien comics. I love that you took the time to research the current trends at each individual store, and how you analysed their objectives behind the styling of each mannequin. Your videos are definitely entertaining, but I always feel like I learn something as well. If anyone else made this video on RU-vid, they would probably just stop at telling us what they like or dislike about the outfits. You always go above and beyond what everyone else is doing, and it definitely shows! If you ever decide to leave RU-vid, I think you'd make a kick-ass marketing professor. 😉

The Hollister outfit actually did feel beachy to me, with like the dress being what you put on to go hang out with your friends at the beach and the cardigan being something you brought along and then put on once night fell and you were all huddled around the bonfire
Random Person I hate to be that one person that disagrees but I’m pretty sure that these ideas were possibly shared with buzzfeed and rejected or put aside. This still gives me a very buzzfeed vibe to it personally but it’s interesting to watch.

After this video came out, I went on a four month long search for those trousers from Topshop and eventually, on my birthday, I found the beige plaid version, which I absolutely love. The hem on the ankle role-ups does keep breaking so I've resewn them several times, but I love them so much

I used to work at Francesca's and we'd have to dress the mannequin by sections of the store. Each clothing section in the store had a name and each mannequin had to represent that section. As far as accessories we just had to pick something that would match the outfit.

You should dress like Rachel/Monica/Phoebe from Friends for a week! Choose a random episode, choose a random character, then check which clothes they wear (there are specific websites for that!!!) and you're done!! EDIT: I hadn't noticed all the likes!! When I worked for Burberry I’d do the dressing for the windows and in store displays and we had to have all the items in the displays were put together on the racks next to them, so the entire outfit was easily accessible.
I've got a hilarious cousin that sometimes likes to dress up as mannequins and go pose in a store. She's super good at standing still for a long time. People walk up to her and try to figure out if she is real, or a wax figure or something, then all she does is turn her head and it scares the shit out of them. I'll film it some time if I can.
