I noticed you stayed close to the tree as it fell. You should always move away during the fall. The trunk can swing back in any direction and hit someone standing nearby. This is extremely dangerous and can cause a tragic accident.

The real danger would’ve been if he barber chaired the tree. John did a real good job with his pie cut and back cut along with his wedges. Plus he had more than enough room to escape if the tree went the other way. Cutting a tree is inherently dangerous anyway.

That went perfect! That dropped perfect. Glad you kept cutting while it was going down to keep it from barber chairing on ya. Ya the safety ninnies will be saying stuff but from a guy that has cut thousands of trees you did great!

Thanks for the encouragement! We got it almost all cleaned up. I plan on another fire at the farmstead maybe in a couple weeks if there’s snow on ground, if not sometime this winter anyway. Keep on tractoring!

I failed miserably with PPE. Also the chain was terribly dull and I think this video could’ve been a lot better if I put in a little more thoughtful effort. Keep on tractoring!

Great job, my only critique and others have already said it but as soon as that tree starts to fall get away as fast as you can even if your saw is some how how stuck just leave the saw and get away. A saw can be replaced but you can't be. Other than that you did a great job. It's always a great relief for me when they are down safe.

if theres one thing the school and time and experiance and mistakes have tought me is just keep a good hinge and pretty much everything else doesnt matter really if you got a face cut in the general direction and kan keep a good hinge your good backcut can be up or down and all that but most important ting is that the face is where you want the tree and you keep a nice hinge dont be afraid of banging wedges because if you have the face in place and hinge is good ilike borecuts gets the hinge done and then i cut up half the back cut and then i bang a wedge in as far as it goes then i cut most of the other half and leave a trigger between 2 wedges and then i cut the trigger and bang it away and if needed stack 2 wedges in the center and if it still wont go i might tickle the hinge a little bit

All good advice! I thought about doing a back cut first on this one and pound some wedges but I think I approached this the best way possible. It’s fun to fell trees. Keep on tractoring!

@@ritterjon - I remember the first time I cut down a big ash tree in my back yard. I had a little bit of remorse removing the tree. At the time, I did not remove it because of the ash borer. I did it to open up the backyard and plant some grass. But the remorse was due to how fast I was able to cut down a grand tree in less then 10 minutes that took decades to grow to its splendor at the time. Removing dead standing trees is not a problem, but I don't like removing health trees. I'm not saying you are cutting down healthy trees, just expressing my reluctance to take healthy trees. No, this is my other up north tractor. It’s a L3940. About 10 years old with just 700 hours. It sure is fun to operate. It was my dad’s tractor. We kept it. Keep on tractoring!

@@ritterjon As the trees fell, there was torque stored within the trunk, which caused the tree to spin and kick back toward the area where I made my cuts. It doesn't happen often, but when it does, it is hazardous...Tom
