I drove 6 hours for shells! I am not sure if that is as impressive as waking up at 2am, but either way, it was a little bit of sleep and a lot of driving to experience something different. Totally worth it!

Hi Sharman, I so look forward to your Sunday night videos!!! and watch you every week. I have learned so much from you. MY first love is rock hounding and like you I get so excited when I find each treasure the ocean has to offer. I live in Ontario which is in the middle of Canada but most of my searching happens on the east coast (which is a two day drive or a five hour flight) so I treasure hunt vicariously with you each week. Thank you for sharing with all those of us who share your passion for “the hunt” for natures treasures. ❤️

Thanks for the beautiful beach walk. The lady that has the you tube channel Florida Beach walks recently mentioned she learned it was not legal to take coral off the beach from one of your videos. Since your first video where you mentioned that, I started to see people commenting on FB shelling pages that you can’t take coral. I had collected 2 vases of coral before I learned from your video that it was not legal. Thanks for educating us.

I love that you went to the east coast! I’m actually just returning home from my vacation to st Augustine, and you were my inspiration to find shells on this trip. I must say, I was not disappointed! And since I usually take this trip every year and don’t find anything special, this was very exciting for me! I found TONS of thick and shiny (not broken) lettered olives, calico scallops, calico clams, about a million other unique things, and even a few lightning whelks. But my favorite item was a complete sand dollar, which I half expected since I found about a millions pieces. Sorry for writing this long paragraph, I was just excited to share my experience! :) Edit: I also found a chestnut turbin (idk how to spell it) and four of these shells that I think are some kind of conch? I actually have no clue but they were still a cool find!

I found a similar cerith in NC to the one you found at 17:30, and was just as stumped. Not sure what it is, but maybe it's a worn stocky cerith, or maybe an ivory cerith? 27:15 is a Common Caribbean Donax, so just a coquina of a different species. That "medallion" flat is so awesome, it's really cool to find those unique one of a kind beach worn shells, adds so much character IMO. Thanks for sharing!

I had a great time at Juno and met other super nice shell enthusiasts that shared shells out of their shell bags with me. Good morning, Sharmon! Well you're much more of an early bird than I am. This was a different a experience for sure. I totally agree that those common shells (Imperial Bittersweets?) do look like caramel candies. I loved seeing those super big olives you found. Did you notice that one of the very orange oyster shells you found has a marking that looks like a rabbit? I enjoyed seeing all the different things you found on that beach but I'd have to say that you live where the best shell beaches are. I truly like bivalves, but gastropods are definitely my favs and they seem to be in abundance in SW Florida. Thanks for sharing, and have a beautiful week.

It is my favorite thing to collect. I usually pick up all the pieces I find for the same reason (tumbled or not) because it could hurt someone. I have occasionally thrown some less tumbled pieces back on beaches less trafficked. I visit my grandma in Florida every year and we LOVE going shelling together. We go to beaches around Tampa, we usually go to a different beach every day.

I am from St Augustine but I used to live near Juno and I swear by those southeast beaches! I've had more luck on coral cove park than I have ever had during my few trips to Sanibel (where I seem to have abysmal luck somehow). If I am not mistaken, the collection of dead coral fragments is permissible outside of state parks and as long as it is not a part of live rock, but I would for sure check FWCs restrictions list.

I live near Naples and have also had almost zero luck with shells on Sanibel ever since Ian. My go to places are south Ft. Myer's Beach and Marco Island. Thanks for the suggestions for east coast shelling! I was on Miami Beach and few weeks ago and we found TONS of beautiful coral fragments, but no shells.

I've been to Coral Cove Park and it was beautiful! I was hoping to score some shark teeth on this trip to Juno but I need more practice apparently. I spoke to someone at FWC and it IS NOT PERMISSIBLE to collect or remove dead coral off Florida beaches. I couldn't believe it either until I spoke to someone. Go figure.

I also love beachcombing and shelling. I pick up so much glass when I go out. One day, I picked up half a bucket full. It makes me so angry that people make such a mess. Glass is dangerous

On the sea glass, I have three categories. Trash, Treasure and Almost. The “almost” aren’t quite frosty enough for me, but have their edges mostly smoothed. I generally leave those to finish. The Auger is my absolute favorite to collect and I think yours might be a Salle, which has given me shell envy because I do not have one…YET. Fabulous video this week, I really enjoyed seeing an east coast beach. Your shell haul is impressive, as always.

LOL - I have those 3 stages of sea glass too! I kept my "finished" glass from the Dry Tortugas, I recycled the garbage and sold the "almost" glass 😌 I just found out about a product you can spray on glass to make it frosted!! 😳

Went to Port Aransas last week. A 5hr drive from central Tx where I reside. I found a few nice specimens and washed them at the condo put them in a plastic container with a lid. When I got home…no shells. I was sad because I treasure my shells. Right now I am looking at a mason jar full of Olives I picked up 24 yrs ago so I guess I will just have to go back someday

Sharmon your right, the spectral bittersweets look just like those small soft caramel candies with the white centers in them that I use to get as a kid! When I was there on vacation I tried shelling in the water and quickly decided that shelling in the surf should seriously be considered a sport, because you need to be in really good physical shape and have excellent "hand eye" coordination! LOL

At least at this beach there weren't rocks in the wash. I've tried to shell in the water where my ankles were getting bashed up by rocks so I ended up on the beach too. I feel like I'd need to live on the East Coast for a few months to really figure out shelling over there!

Last time I was at Juno beach I also found one of those tellin-like shells with the purple splotch near the umbo. I've been calling it a giant coquina, but I don't know either! That's the best I could do identifying it from the Florida's Living Beaches book. I've been watching videos from other shellers in that area, and they are finding them too, but I think they're also unsure! Welcome back to this side, BTW!

If the sea glass is rounded on the edges at all, I throw it back into the ocean. I haven’t met anyone yet who has cut their foot on sea glass…I read it takes decades for glass to tumble in the ocean (but just 3-5 days in a mechanical tumbler)…😮🤔
