Hi Thomas, I'm a car mechanic (and fellow photographer), love your content. I have a little fix for your frozen window problem with it being stuck down in cold weather. If you get a little tin of silicone spray. and spray it in the side gap between the window and door frame, it will provide a good weatherproof lubrication for your window to go up and down (and keep frost out of the trim). It will put less strain on the motor and should solve the problem. Hope that helps!

The ferry route is crazy. The ferry from Denmark to the Faeroes and Iceland used to call in at Lerwick in Shetland. My local Venture Scouts took 3 old Land Rovers to Faeroes and Iceland in 1988 by driving to Scrabster, in the far north of Scotland, then ferry to Stromness on Orkney, then Kirkwall ferry to Lerwick to meet the Faeroes ferry. I'd do that but our connections are always north south, never east west. The UK is broken.

36:10 Hi Thomas, you should flip that bag inside out so the foil reflects the light (and subsequently the heat) instead of having the black material facing out which will absorb the heat.

I live in Namibia and am yet to see a Jerry Can affected with heat. As long as you take your regular precautions there's no need for the bag.

Now it's getting ridiculous. This is now the second time since 2020 that Thomas has been in Iceland in the exact same days/weeks as myself, shooting the same locations, sometimes just hours apart. Maybe at some point it works out for shooting together.

The traffic on the Smyril Line ferry 'Norröna' is the coolest around the globe, trust me. But at one trip it was even above this standard with all Danish Ford Model Ts visiting the brother on the Faroe Islands. They made a full lane in the line up ... Worth every trip!
@christianbreinbjergfotokunst
@christianbreinbjergfotokunst 10 месяцев назад
In less than a month I will be on the same ferry going to the Faroe Islands. I prefer this to flying as I can bring my own car and all the gear that I need for photography and vlogging. Thanks for showing what it is all about. FYI: When the signs in Denmark say "No Camping", you are still allowed to park up for the night and sleep. Camping is when you "make a camp", meaning taking out the chairs, using a canopy etc. You are always allowed to park in a parking space.

I enjoyed watching this travel video so much. We've been in Iceland ourselves but took the "boring and easy route" via plane back then. I didn't realize that from the UK you'd go via Amsterdam and Denmark, would have thought there is a direct ferry. Iceland is such an amazing place! So can't wait to see the next episodes and photo results ...

My friend and I drove a 1972 T2 camper van (that my dad got for payment for a building job he did, another story) from London to the Czech Republic in 2002 for a festival, 5 days there, 5 days for the festival, and 5 days back. The van rattled and overheated and stunk of damp (and other stuff), and had two smelly metal heads in it, and generally we were expecting to fly back, but we made it home, when it literally fell apart like the Blues Brothers Dodge Monaco sedan. It was sold for parts. Happy times.

Just returned from Iceland last week Thomas, my daughter and I took the easy route and flew, hired a 4x4 and hotels each night (same cost as hiring a big 4x4 camper) meant we could have a shower and breakfast each morning and a bit of comfort. Iceland is an incredible country but I’m not sure I could justify taking 4 or 5 days to get there and the same to return 🤔 We spent an incredible 6 days taking in the Westfjords and Highlands, covered 2000 miles on the road, went Whale watching out of Húsavík and Puffins in Dyrhólaey and have captured some of my best ever images in the past 3 years. Look forward to following your time spent there and also looking forward to who you meet up with 👍

Hi Tom the passenger window trouble is a Mitsi thing to solve it you need to let the window down whilst holding the button (can do it on the drivers side ) and keep holding the button for 10 - 12 secs then raise window whilst holding the button for 10 -12 secs now the window is reset, might not work first time but usually does. Looking forward to the rest of the trip 👍👍

I did this twice about 15 years ago. I did the last year where the ferry ran from Scrabster in Scotland, then following year ran from Hamstholm, Denmark. A long way to go from UK (UK to Hanstholm was 3 days) but well worth it. Roughed it in the couchettes on board the Norrona but it was fine. Then took a day trip to Greenland from Reykjavik. Definitely an adventure. Ferry used to go via Bergen sometimes in those days. I went up to the northeast, my car survived the gravel roads, hardly a car seen for 3 days up there. Need to be self reliant and able to fix basic stuff if you go up there. No barriers on mountain passes. Fill up when you can, keep tank fairly full in remote areas. Carry lots of water, spare headlight bulbs as hard to come by, cans of tyre foam, and battery jump starter. One of the best places ever. Faroes are great too. It was still a tourism backwater in 2007, getting more known now. When the ferry stopped going to scotland, the number of UK cars dropped off a lot. Good hypermarket on german danish border at Handewitt Scandinavian Park Autohof. The old Norrona is now called Logos Hope, a Christian mission ship.

Got a chuckle out of this one, Thomas! My wife said that he (meaning, you) worries about the same things I do. Namely, strange engine noises, being sliced in two by wind turbine blades ( wouldn't park underneath one) and seasickness! Be that as it may, so far at least, we have been able to travel safely. Have a terrific trip! Look forward to the videos and photos.

It's very easy for your mind to get carried away while contemplating everything that can go wrong on a trip like this. But based on your last video, you're definitely well-prepared for this. And most often, the initial anxieties about things going wrong are all in your head. We are hardwired to think that way as a self-preservation instinct. But once you get out there, you'll realize (as you have) that things are not nearly as scary as they originally seemed. Even if something goes wrong, would it really be that bad? Odds are you'll get it sorted out, and be on your way. Life goes on. Just enjoy your amazing trip, and don't spend the whole time worrying. You've definitely inspired me to explore a similar experience sometime soon. I need it!

Thanks I did pretty much the same trip 30 years ago. In a long wheelbase Land Rover Though the old MS Norona was a very basic ship. 1 restaurant and a bar with a telly in the corner On the return journey. They ran out of room on the car deck. And were craning vehicles onto the outside decks. Until the chains broke and they dropped someone’s 4x4 onto the handrail!!! Spent 2 months trekking round Iceland. An amazing experience Then a further 4 months round Eastern Europe Looking forward to seeing the rest of your trip Enjoy it

What an interesting watch! Being from Iceland and living near Amsterdam and having planned to do this last year, it was fun to follow your journey. Our trip didn’t go ahead because I got an email saying they didn’t have space for the car on the return journey. Fairly inconvenient leaving it there. We ended up taking a plane and renting a car. Hopefully, some day, I’ll manage to do the Smyril Line thing. Oh, and I’ve been subscribed to your channel for ages but somehow haven’t seen you in the last couple of years. This is a big step up from a tripod on your back, walking into the local hills. Great to see how the channel obviously has grown immensely.
