There's basically two stories being told in the MV. One is the literal love story between them and the other is the story of discrimination/oppression. The cube represents society, IU and V are marginalized people with disabilities (IU is mute/deaf and V is half blind). Society today treats these people differently for unnecessary reasons, which is why the cube is hunting them down. The camcorder they look through shows the ideal/dream world they want, but the reality they live in, they can't have these things. They can't be happy, can't have a happy wedding, enjoy their life, pursue their dreams (IU's dream in the MV is to sing, but she can't in reality) because of their disabilities. When you look through the hole in the wall and the city is in ruins with cubes floating around going about their business, this represents society in my opinion. The world is on fire, but yet we as society just live like this because we think it's ok. In the end, V tries to fight off the cube, but it fails and it just turns red...red to me symbolizes anger and hatred and going back to the original point of society treating these people differently, it targets them and it's implied they die, but the director of the MV did say they are free from the oppression in a way when they float up. In the end, everyone deserves happiness and it doesn't matter what society thinks, as long as they have something or someone they truly love.
I only differ slightly with what you said. I agree with everything other than the ideal dream world they want. The way I interpret it is that the box/society sees them as you describe, but the camera shows us how they see themselves, no different than anyone else.

IU was my gateway into K-pop. When I travelled to Seoul 12yrs ago IU was everywhere! Her breakout song You & I will always be my soundtrack for my time there. She's so freaking cute too.
Great Reaction! You don't ever have to apologize about crying or shedding tears. I love IU's MV and IU and TaeTae's acting was excellent. TaeTae was blind in one eye and IU was deaf/mute, but they saw the beauty of each other. They looked normal to each other when they looked at each other through the camera. The evil cube sees them as inferior or imperfect and wants to destroy them. At the end you could see smoke rising so yes I believe the evil cube was burning them because you could see their ashes in camera view while their clothes were being lifted on the pile of clothes. Our handsome and multi-talented TaeTae definitely needs to do another K-drama. If you haven't seen K-drama Hwarang you definitely need to see it. It stars TaeTae, Park Hyung-sik and Park Seo-Joon. You watch it because TaeTae is in it, but end up falling for the whole cast. IU's voice is so angelic and she looked so beautiful in the wedding gown. TaeTae and IU need to do a K-drama together if possible when TaeTae is done with military duty. Be Blessed!
I understand. I cried a river many times watching this MV. It really hit hard. The ending scene broke my heart when she covered his good eye. I can relate having only one good eye too. The only solice I get from this, is that they were together till the end. So so sad. 😢💔

Oh, even though I’m ARMY, I loved watching IU tv that is behind the scenes of this MV. V has one too but IU’s is longer. I also loved watching IU behind the scenes actual recording bc she caught the flu while shooting the MV and it shows her tenacity, humour and professionalism 😊

Masterpiece. Beautiful message. Beautiful story, it was not a just a beautiful song. IU and V are imperfect people according to the world. But through another lens, they see each other as perfect. In the real world, they may not have much, but they love each other and commit to each other by getting married. But the world intrudes on them and gets rid of their love, because their love should not be. It gets rid of them. We see that the world has done that before to others love that was deemed not worthy. Their stories is like other love that has come before theirs, disintegrated because they were perceived as imperfect by the world. The real world is broken.

I always get tickled at the people who get hung up on what those cubes are.😊 Does it really matter what they are? Since as the lyrics say they are the Runier/ Destroyer. The choice of a cube is on purpose because they are sterile in a sense, faceless, emotionless representing HATE in whatever form you want. In IU posting on her website she states that Hate is always alone. And what is more alone than a square cube. IU is an outstanding actress and has been in a number of Kdramas, including You are the Best, Scarlett Heart, Hotel del Luna and My Mister (which is her iconic acting performance in a kdrama to date. They (imperfect ones like V, one eye blind & IU, deaf) are sorted out by the box (symbolizing as the society in the world, maybe???). BTS is the biggest band in the world. I am not making this up but borrowing the BTS' introduction from the US, Europe & Asia's music industries. They are not as active these days because they all are serving in the army. You really should check out BTS Korean songs. If you want to see V's work, try Singularity & Slow Dance. Unlike the most of kpop singers, he likes r&b and jazz.

Here is some extra info about the music video... Director Um Tae Hwa released a guide explaining the MV and gave 4 Key points. First, the "cube" signified the discrimination and oppression that are prevalent in the daily lives of the main characters. Second, the "camcorder" represents the "lens of love," an important "device" that allows us to look at the beautiful things in the world beyond the internal or external appearance of the characters. Third, IU and BTS V became the main characters in a "survival story of a dystopian worldview of someone who cannot speak and sees the world only through his left eye." Despite the difficulty, feeling hurt and exhausted, they relied on each other despite "cube" and tried to overcome it in the end. Fourth and last, the "wedding dress and tuxedo" symbolize the "fruit of love." I've only heard a couple of IU's songs but they were all beautiful. Her voice is really good. The MV wrecked me the first few times I watched it. V's got a very beautiful voice as well. I'd love to hear what they sound like together. I know they've gotten closer over time as friends so setting up a collab is just one phone call away! This MV reminds me a lot of the movie 'A Quiet Place'. I see the cubes as alien because of it. It could honestly just be futuristic human tech gone too far as well though.
I have watched the mv numerous times. I have watched so many reactions. It doesn't get any easier, and I don't think it ever will. Everything is so beautifully done, but what's behind it is so ugly. Hatred and discrimination are everywhere. The mv touches the deepest of your soul. Cry away. Let's bring back love and let it prevail.
It is sad for us that such a masterpiece has such a heartbreaking ending. But at the same time, we are very lucky...because only when the producer, director, lyricist, composer, singer, and actors all work together perfectly, then we can meet such a masterpiece. And IU accounts for four-sixths of them herself(producer, lyricist, singer, actress). By the way, if you feel sad about this MV and hard to get out, let me tell you a little funny story about IU. My interpretation is that IU is protecting her fandom. “V” represents them. He tries to protect her but fail. Overwhelmed by the opposition. The cube is all of the negative stuff they get by antis, toxic ppl, media, and internet invasion into their lives. Many idols and others have been destroyed by the toxicity.
