Yes it's road legal! My V6 Ranger goes through engineering in Western Australia for a lift and bigger tyres.
In this video, I step through the whole engineering process, timing and costs involved.
This video is not sponsored, with all products and the install paid for by me.

Thank you for doing this. You have made me realise that every 4wd I've had was not legal and now I have to factor in these costs on the new ranger I've got coming. Keep up to good work! 👍

Just got my v6 wildtrak, in WA too. Not looking to lift it or anything just yet. Gonna take it to my local spots (mostly beaches) to see if i absolutely need the mods. i am extremely thankful for these guides in case i do in the future, cheers mate keep up the great work.

Thanks Ken 👌 You’re definitely approaching it the right way. They are capable out of the box, so best to try it stock and you might be able to save yourself a heap of money. The only question mark for me stock if going offroad stock is the tyres. Mine had highway tyres when new and I feel they are vulnerable to a sidewall puncture offroad. Another option down the track for you could be putting on some better quality AT tyres with a 2 or 3 ply sidewall. Enjoy your new ride 👍

Yeah 100%. A lot of red tape for a simple 2” lift and 33s but that’s the process here in WA

Thanks for your video! Your step-by-step content is amazing! I am in WA too. Recently, I just got my Ranger. I am wondering if I need to submit the mod form to the DOT if I only install a bullbar and canopy.
@Perth4WDandCamping
@Perth4WDandCamping 3 месяца назад
No worries. Was a bit of a process but worth it for the extra payload and lift. I didn’t do a mod form for the bullbar.

Great video Mark. It shouldn’t be this hard tho in my opinion, the suspension manufacturer should get their suspension certified and all you’d have to do it get a mechanic to install it, not all these hoops to jump through with engineers, surely Ironman and arb have already done the engineering on it before they bring it to market.
@Perth4WDandCamping
@Perth4WDandCamping Год назад
Thanks mate. Yeah agree - it’s a big process and would be amazing if it could be simplified. GVM only can be quite a simple process if you go ARB, Ironman etc which offer those packages, but it’s when you start adding bigger tyres and a lift that it gets complicated.
@CRDStudios

Awesome video, I've been thinking of doing the same to my Ranger, But lucky I watched your video as I thought it was 50mm lift and a 50mm larger tyre, so had I done both like you, I'd have been way over and not known. Which kind of wheel flares have you put on, they look awesome.
@Perth4WDandCamping

G’day. Thanks. If I was to reregister the vehicle in another state then some paperwork/additional certification may be needed - would have to check with the particular state. In terms of driving through another state temporarily, this would be under my WA registration where the mods are approved. When I do this I’ll carry a copy of my DOT (WA) approval.

@Perth4WDandCamping

It’s when it’s empty - no cargo, no passengers, 10L of fuel. Your tare will vary depending on what mods you’ve added (bullbar, winch, roof racks etc)

I love this only thing I don’t like is if you get it engendered post registration then it’s only legal in the state that it was done in so if you were to say drive to QLD it will not be legal

Do you need approval by law? I am fully into being legal, however, to my understanding is that you dont need to have Engineering for your lift the size you have gone 50 mm (usually a 50mm lift is a bit less) and tyres/wheel offset? I understand to get the GVM upgrade you need engineering.
@Perth4WDandCamping
@Perth4WDandCamping Год назад
In WA you can only go 50mm over stock height (total increase) - a 2” lift will take you to this limit so the addition of bigger tyres would put me over. For me 33s and a 2” lift is a perfect combo for what we do and thus requires engineering - even if I didn’t want a GVM upgrade I’d have to get signed off by an engineer to be legal. Plenty of people running a similar set up with no engineering, but for the reasons outlined in my vid, that’s a risk some people gamble on (insurance etc) - not the way I wanted to approach it.
@CH-ef9he

Thank you for content. Trying to decide if going for a gvm upgrade of 3500 or 3650. What was end weight loaded when compared to gvm?
@Perth4WDandCamping
@Perth4WDandCamping Год назад
We were pretty much on the GVM of 3449kg for the test. There was a lot of weight added by the engineer. Just note there’s a few additional things you’ll need to do if going over 3500kg such as adding the additional lights to the side of the vehicle. You can always reach out to an engineer before you lock in suspension and talk through what you’re trying to achieve

@rhoelg
@rhoelg 16 дней назад
why can we just buy the same suspension set and wheel size and get this approved without the red tape as shown that setup is good lol
@Perth4WDandCamping
@Perth4WDandCamping 15 дней назад
Unfortunately that’s not how engineering works the way I approached it (as there wasn’t an off the shelf GVM package for the Pajero Sport). Often suspension manufacturers have pre-approved GVM packages which doesn’t require all the red tape steps so it’s worth giving Ironman a call to see if they have a Pajero Sport GVM package available. Generally these can be installed and simply need an inspection to be approved.

Did you look at Outback Armour? What was your original rim offset? 👍
@Perth4WDandCamping
@Perth4WDandCamping Год назад
I had a look at OA but not in a lot of detail. I’m sure their gear is good but have never personally run it on a vehicle. In the end I went for what I have used and trust offroad. Stock 17s tyres are a +55 offset. +30 is as much as you can go to keep within 50mm in WA

What was the total amount of the lift in the end (tyres and suspension) - are locked in to always putting that type of tyre on you vehicle (different tyres could mean a bigger lift)
@Perth4WDandCamping
@Perth4WDandCamping 5 месяцев назад
60mm. Tyres have very aggressive tread so won’t be an issue going to other brands of tyres unless I go a bigger size (Eg 33 to 35)
@daveolsen5173
@daveolsen5173 Год назад
Gday mate why did need the gvm upgrade? Was that because you have the long range fuel tank and bull bar etc?
@Perth4WDandCamping
@Perth4WDandCamping Год назад
Was worth doing at the same time as the cost is very similar just to engineer the lift. The new suspension is capable of handling more load than stock so it’s a win-win. The Ranger’s payload is ok, but I just had the opportunity to get that bit more. The extra GVM I’ve gained is about equivalent to the amount of tow-ball download when I’m towing the van, so I get the payload back to carry additional gear if necessary. Plus as you’ve noted it helps to offset some of the additional mods I’ve added.
