The yearly Songkran Festival is a huge deal in Thailand as it's the beginning of the Thai new year. Water is splashed for 3 days, everywhere, and on everyone. Things can get really wild. However, this year, I decided to start a 3 week South Thailand Motorbike Tour at the beginning of Songkran away from all the tourists. Join me as I show you how I escaped Songkran madness in Bangkok and celebrated it in a small village instead. There's something much more personal and intimate about the way the Thai people celebrate songkran in smaller towns. Starting a motorbike tour in April is sheer madness as this is the hottest month of the year, but why not! I will spend 3 weeks on my Honda ADV 160 going all the way down the South of Thailand to Songkhla. This episode is the culmination of Day 1 and Day 2 of this trip.

Always appreciate when people clarify that Swastika symbol. As a Hindu, its crazy how many times have had to explain its not the heukencross. Swastika has been a symbol of auspiciousness around the world but especially Asia for thousands of years! Safe travels Serg, enjoy!

Agreed....unfortunately, it's been turned into a massive alcohol fueled party scene in the tourist areas that almost none of the foreigners realize what the significance is of the holiday. It kind of reminds me of the full moon parties, which is just another excuse to get drunk and party.

RULES in Thailand is often more like guidelines..shops dont sell alcohol..but thats it =)

Great video buddy! Very educating for some people who have never been there. I'm on my way to Thailand next month and plan to stay there for 6 months. On the topic of releasing captured birds, fish, butterflies and snakes, I believe it is not my place to criticize. I am a guest in their country. If Thailand was like California, I would not visit it.

This is Hua-Hin at my childhood day, It's about 30-40 years ago that Hua -Hin beach was look like. The tallest building at that time was the 4 stories Sailom Hotel. and Happy Songkran day...

Love hua hin, especially in the area you were at. Off the topic question for you...I noticed youtubers use the same words to describe things, for example, Epic and Sketchy. Is that just a thing that has passed over from one youtuber to another or are those suggested words from youtube? Have an epic ride but watch out for sketchy areas 😂

I think it’s part of the vocabulary of a certain generation. These are words are used growing up, so that’s why I use them. I don’t follow any kind of RU-vid dictionary or anything like that.

It was really bad coming down here from Bangkok. Took me a little over four hours and I was able to split traffic on the bike. My car I think it would’ve been over six hours.

That was a really nice way to celebrate Songkran Serg . Done the whole water splashing before it was fun twice but that enough for me . Hua Hin is such a nice place good call on going further out of town and the hotel was really nice and well done on getting in for longer at the same price 👏👏

Yeah, this wasn’t as big of a celebration for me this year as last year. Next year, I’ll find another small town and plan this a little better in advance. I literally decided to do the trip the day before I left. Lol should have another episode finished in two or three days.

Did the same after living and working 10 years in Thailand after 3-4 years go in to hiding in central Thailand .. Where they celebrate traditionally song kran pouring water on buddha and washing parents and older ppl hands and feet for respect and luck for the new year with dancing drinking and eating and not total waterwar mayhem ..ok SOME kids with water guns but that's is only smile and laughter and fun for the kids 555

Yes sir, it was a good way to end that four hour ride. Fortunately I was on a bike and I could squeeze through traffic pretty quickly. It would’ve taken me six hours by car.

In the past release bird and fish had a lot in Bangkok. Yes, Many people thought that people capture bird and fish for business does not the way for bhuddist. In Bangkok, People banned bird release from capture it for long time. For fish release people buy fish from market to release them. Not buy people who capture it. For some place up country still has people capture bird and fish for business.

Yeah, I find it to be a very hypocritical thing to do. Again this is just my opinion. It just seems contrary to Buddhist beliefs. I’m glad to know that it was banned in Bangkok. People in small towns in Thailand do a lot of things that make no sense, like burning crops. So I’m not surprised to see this.

Yes, last year‘s video was very different. This was not really a Songkran video, it was just the first day of the motorbike trip. Next year, I will plan ahead and go to another small town and do a full on celebration.

Hey Serg what is the cost of gasoline for your motorbike?

Right now it’s about one dollar per liter, which works out to be about $4 a gallon. If you consider that the average salary, Thailand is about $500 a month, this is quite expensive. However, my bike can go about 45km per liter, which is about 110 MPG.

Serg be careful mate you are not free wheeling on your bike in the USA .Heaven forbid something happens you will be out on a limb being a foreigner .Thai laws and logic will kick in and that is not favourable for a farang whether it's the law itself , accident insurance and hospital bills . Thailand is fantastic until something happens .
