Its quite funny. When a player is dropped or sacked from the club noone bats an eyelid. But when the player controls his own path, its hell on earth. Good on ya joey, everyones just a number in the nrl anyway. You never know when the club is just gonna drop you. Look after yourself.
As a Roosters fan I have no problem with Sua'ali'i leaving the Roosters. I look forward to him playing with the Rooster for the next 18 Months. I wish him well in RU and move on to the next young star signing. Wish the media would get over it and just shut up. The media do not run the Roosters.
Kenty talking about league becoming a breeding ground for union then using Radradra as an example. He was plucked from Fiji Club Rugby and their 7s programme. Own goal.
As a Bulldogs supporter who has lived overseas for many years and has recently returned home, I find the Gus and panel's opinion on Rugby Union so out of touch. Rugby Union is a huge sport (obviously not right now in Australia) around the world and growing at a massive rate. Grow up! NRL is and has always been favourite sport but I love Rugby Union (as well as other codes). Why can't we love both and hope kid succeeds wherever he ends up.
Its this Union vs League bs that existed in the 80s & 90s now days people from either code can freely like both codes of Rugby & thats how it should be, but some people obviously cant grow out of it. I like both codes but find League more entertaining with all the rules in Union making the game impossible to flow. Its good its a dying mindset though.
Maybe Gus should think back to when Sonny moved on to Rugby he was all for it. Maybe him and Kenty should be thinking about how to keep players in the game, because loyalty doesn't pay the bills. There is no International appeal nor is there an Olyimpic Gold appeal for League, yet these two Muppets seem to think the game of Union is dead.
Kaylen Ponga hasn't even turned 25 yet and his career is practically over, which just proves that you've gotta earn the big money while your young because it could end at any time.
@@izzy031096 His career is over in the sense that he will never reach his full potential because the NRL will bubble wrap him and force him to sit out for 11 days every time he gets a bump on the head or a sore tummy.
@@izzy031096 Yip early retirement, another half dozen head knocks and he's a goner, and we all knw how often these league boys get themselves ko'd, love the game but its just how it is🤷♂️
i actually agree with him on that. only reason you wouldnt is if you think gangs are cool and not what they really are which is a group of dumb fucks stealing from and killing each other.
I love league but to get out of joint when a player returns to his roots when he was originally targeted by league scouts and basically stolen away from the code is pretty ironic, and league has been doing it for years many of the best have union back grounds, in NZ Shaun Stevenson a player very much like Sualli who is close to All Black selection was targeted by the Dolphins, so lets not get all huffy when it gets done back...
RA will be delighted that Gould, Kent keep talking about it. These fellas are paying for Suaalii's salary many times over before he has even moved codes
Kent was an absolute lunatic with his illogical rant at the end. he's so cluless on how contracts work and prefers to go down the secrecy line instead of people being honest and upfront. glad he was smashed by his Daily Tele colleague who had common sense about the suaalii situation.
He signed a contract to play for the Roosters till the end of 2024 & thats exactly what he’s doing. So Gould & Kent should give it a rest. The Roosters are his employer. If there is no problem with them, it’s their call.
Well done Joey! I hope that he does well in Rugby, and that we get to see you in a Wallabies jersey. The irony, in all of this is that RL could've fixed this by expanding the game and creating more income streams for players - apart from the NRL, and possibly the SL, there is no where else for a player to go. RL is a dead game in the World. For a Rugby player, you have the exciting competition in the US now opening up, the Japanese league, and even anywhere in Europe. No one bats an eyelid when RL, poaches Rugby kids!
He should play Rugby and handle the ball twice a match and usually in the second half of the second half.. ..when they actually attempt to get a try... I watched a Test with a final score of 37 to 25 ...and the entire match produced ONE try..... call that a game??? Its just a pommie rubbish game.. I'd rather mow the lawn.
@@wittohasago with a score of 37 to 25 it would literally be mathematically impossible for only one try to have been scored Try 5points Conversation 2 points Penalty 3 points
@@big-j2680 I did mow my lawn... and rugby is as exciting as watching paint dry.....my cousin played on the wing for Australia.... the footy tackles we showed him in the front yard as kids sent the cousins off to play Rugby... 🤣😂🤣
What the hell is wrong with Gould and the one game wonder Kent! Everyone who knows the story of Joseph always knew that he was going to play union at some stage. It’s why Joseph chose the roosters as they accommodated his desire to play union. Roosters hierarchy knew all about it
Yesterday rugby union was a dead code, yet today they are at risk of picking the eyes out and signing loads of stars. Welcome to the confusing world of Paul Kent, he can't even stick to his own angry point from one day to the next. Calm down, Kenty, grab a holiday or a non local newspaper and see there is a world outside of Sydney
Sonny Bill started it all. He walked out on a contract he signed for. Went to the opposing code. And NRL welcomed him back with open arms back in 12-13. Should have been banished from the game. At least this young bloke is giving them 18 months of notice. Move along.
Haha 😂 The minute Kent referred to the $1.6 million clearly shows they are annoyed that a Polynesian kid is going to be the highest paid player in Australia for both codes.
@@rashneelwalla380 The only million a season players were Milford and Fifita in the history of the game that is now represented by almost 50% Polynesians.
You can go whenever you want to go as soon as your contact is done. Don’t know why these dinosaurs are moaning about it. For the players its their career and if they get more money elsewhere then fair play.
What if the player decided to retire at the end of his current contract? Would Gus tell him "you've made up your mind, get out now?". It's very clear that Gus is actually afraid of rugby, and thinks this trend would only get worse in the future.
@@josephyore4022 really? Then how come clubs get to throw players away when they like? The loyalty isn’t a two way street so I don’t understand why everyone’s having a sook about someone choosing to leave NRL then playing until the club gives them the boot
@@josephyore4022 Would you say the same thing about changing the club within rugby league? Because I always hear during matches this player leaves for that club next season comments. Would you say that such players also should leave immediately?
@@TheGadfly85mate your missing the point he’s still signed for almost 2 years if your with an nrl you can’t negotiate with any club so young joesph was of contract this year all good he could sign to go rugby no is disputing that but because he’s still 18 months from ending his contract why should he be allowed to sign al be it rugby when no league player can that’s the point Gould is making he’s right.
They all have great points ! I feel Kentys energy at the end Develop international league properly Starting with the countries that participated in the last World Cup - build on that
All of you commentators, had you had the talent that this young man has would have followed the offer of more money. Suaali has the right to select his future destiny and his financial marketability !! Phil Gould never had this level of talent !!
These guys are just instigators. Didn't listen to what Robbo said at all. He said Chill relax the world is not going to end tomorrow. Ultimately he is right as it won't but these journos are chasing a headline so they blow every signing as a "shock" "kick in the guts", "greedy players" as if it is an existential crisis. It isn't. What does Gus and these clowns think will happen if he goes now? Will the game be better? Will the potential superstars remain in the NRL forever. Will the Bulldogs win a premiership in 2 years? Will poaching stop between the ARU and NRL? All that will happen is he spends 1.5 seasons with the hapless waratahs ...big deal!
Talk about making a mountain out of a molehill. Yeah, he's a great player, but he's just one guy. These media guys are acting like he's the messiah all of a sudden because he's gone to another code.
I agree with Gus he should go now ..he will be advertising the NRLs competitor until he leaves ..I don't begrudge him the money but he is an agent of a game looking to knock down the NRL ..if it's possible another reason to hate the Roosters.. 1.6 million surely they could fit him into their cap
At the end of the day, rugby league is a game, but the NRL is a business. The only way to stop it, is to offer more money 💵. Stop focusing on clauses in contracts and grow the game to a level where we generate enough money to offer these athletes a more attractive deal.
Joseph Su’aali’i is a rugby Union school kid through and through Gus must understand that simple fact of life. The South Sydney Rabbitohs snitched him from rugby union then the Roosters pinched him for more money. Now, Rugby Australia offers Joseph more; alot more rugby league could allow in its salary controlled players contract. Joseph Su’aali’i will be earning way more in rugby union than any other players in rugby league from 2025. Gus has to know Rugby Australia wants Joseph right now but the Roosters want to keep him until then.
Here are some of the blokes that have jumped ship from league to union and back with some of them. Suaalii is not the first and will not be the last. Leave the kid alone. 😡 Ben Barba , Sam Burgess, Reece Robinson, Matt Duffie, Karlmichael Hunt, Berrick Barnes, Nathan Blacklock, Willie Carne, Brian Carney, Ryan Cross, Paul Franze, Sam Harris, Wise Kativerata, Ben MacDougall, Matt Rodgers, Wendell Sailor, Clinton Schifofske, Timana Tahu, Brad Thorn, Lote Tuqiri, Andrew Walker, Craig Wing, Craig Gower, Sonny bill Williams
The NRL should terminate his contract immediately if there is a clause to do so in player contracts. This would result in ZERO defections moving forward.
lol Paul Kent stating rugby union poaching players out of junior rugby league… Joseph Sualii played played for GPS 1st XV, NSW School Boys and Australian Schools 7’s. Do your research before you make a statement like that rookie.
He means junior rugby league clubs... How do you think Private schools give scholarships out to play for their schools rugby team... J.S playing rugby league for Glenmore Park Brumbies n Coogee wombats under 12's... Poached from rugby union school... While still playing rugby league for club... Bt yeah you probably didn't see that one...lol Kent the rookie...😜🤣🤣
Professional sport is a business, to an extent I can fantasise about the notion of loyalty but it swings both ways, he’s got an awesome opportunity to earn big money which hopefully sets him up for life, ultimately that everyone’s life goal. A clubs goal is to win championships, they also have the right to pick and chose who they want when they want, he’s got no guarantees at any club or code.
He came from union now is going back. Big deal. Rugby Union nurtured him. Radradra was a rugby junior that played u20s for Fiji. These are rugby players they are talking about.
Lol Kent talks about Semi being poached by rugby while conveniently forgetting that he was poached from rugby first. He had already played 7s for Fiji. Big Nelson S was a standout rugby player in Wellington and earmarked as a future All Black when league came and poached him. RTS was poached straight from the NZ rugby u20s team where he had played with Ardie Savea. There are NRL scouts at every schoolboy rugby tournament in NZ and Australia, countless schoolboy superstars have been poached by the NRL. The nerve of this guy to play the victim is truly something.
The All Blacks are going to smash him. He should stay in Rugby League . I can understand if he shines in Rugby , he will get overseas offers to play abroad.
Trent is right, all this is fear. Be happy for the kid if you really believe in you’re game and it’s growth then you’d have no problem with him leaving. No one had issues with george, sonny, izzy, benji, rts
I think Trent was spot on and spoke really well. Let's be honest , if it was our son I'd want the support on both ends. you never what may happen down the road. He could easily be back to nrl and if we have burnt a bridge then he won't want a bar of tje nrl next time round and go over the UK etc. As for Gus , I switch off when he speaks . I won't go into my thoughts about the bloke. nothing nice to say, so dont say anything at all.
At the end of the day NRL can’t afford to keep him he knows what he’s worth. Why do you think Jordan mailata left your game it’s peanuts on what you pay. Get over it
Gus, spot on. As soon as Joey has a few bad games he’s gonna be scrutinized straightaway for not trying and they’re gonna question his loyalty. I know exactly what Gus and Kenty mean.
Sailor , Rogers and others went union and the nrl still keep getting bigger and better. As they always say one man or woman no bigger then the game. Union have wasted so much needed money for growing their game on trying to buy a world cup
Nrl is footy players job, there occupation. If you go to work and someone comes along and offers you 3 times as much salary to go work for them playing a game you know your going to take it. Gus is just trying to break down the opposition for his teams benefit. He’s never liked the roosters.
The more Kenty opened his trap, the closer he got to talking from out his backside. Let the kid be, he's signed a reasonable contract to help another Aussie team win...I'm sure he didn't initiate this whole saga, Eddie Jones came in, took the reins and said, I want Joey Suaali'i in the Wallabys no matter how much it costs....NRL have poached many Union talents over the years so it's ok to take a dose of your own medicine some times...Come to Samoa, we got many spare Sua'ali'i's here but they play union, is that ok?
Sour grapes Gould. Never got anything positive to say. If you've got the skills, make coin however you can young man! How did we all forget that it's a game? Young fellas got a limited time to make as much money as he can for himself and family...why begrudge him that and be bitter. Mr Robinson sir you are a gentleman and a scholar.
Give me a break rugby league has been poaching best union players forever stop the garbage leave that young man alone he has free choice his seeing out his contact which the roosters offered beautiful man not breaking it wake up and have some respect these journos have never swapped companies or left for higher money please rugby league teams will send you to the scrapheap if you don't perform and by the way I follow rugby league and don't talk about mental health on 1 hand and crucify a young man for following his passion I'm ashamed
Why is it such a controversy that he’s signed for 2025? Brandon Smith signed for the Roosters and played out his contract at the Storm. We’ve had a hundred examples of players signing to leave while they still have ages to go on their contract. What they’re essentially asking Sua’ali’i to do is sit on his hands at the Roosters and wait for Tedesco to retire. Israel Folau was the best player on the park every time he put on the green and gold. Rugby Australia knows the NRL can produce some amazing union players and they have the money to back it up.
Players have an extremely short career and they need to follow the money to set themselves and their families up its that simple . If union offers more money then that’s where you go . Players come and go and always will . Folau , radrada , mat rogers , sailor etc etc all went to the wallabies but they still sucked when it matters . Wallabies haven’t won a World Cup or bledisloe in 20 years .
Latrell, Turbo and Manu yes as they are outside backs who are athletic. Tedesco is too old and not known around Rugby Union circles outside of Australia and New Zealand.. Munster, Cleary would be great, but a playmaker in Union is different and i dunno if they'd toss big money for them when they'd be after the big ball runners who can play in the outside backs like Latrell, Turbo and Manu.
But Joey is still honoring his contract. When I told KFC I was leaving to get a manager position in 3 months at Mc Donald's they didnt tell me to get out lol.
