Castaway Stories, The Urbz, and Sims Medieval all should be the baselines for what game packs should’ve been in The Sims 4 - hell, I’d almost be okay if it was expansion pack pricing if they provided the same level of unique gameplay like those games did.
It’s interesting that you refer to the ‘Stories’ games as cash grabs. They weren’t. (Or at least, that wasn’t their intention at the time.) They were intended to be stripped-back versions of The Sims 2 for people using laptops who couldn’t run The Sims 2 well. Most of the features of The Sims 2, but not all, and didn’t require an independent graphics card. I was grateful at the time that my laptop was quite new and able to run The Sims 2, but when I played the Stories games I also really enjoyed them for their storylines.
Exactly. This was a valid concern for a lot of simmers. I was asking for more RAM or a new graphics card with basically every expansion. It was a really challenging game at the time with all the expansions and CC on top. And I still play the Stories games all the time just for how much fun they are.

my first sims was Castaway Stories on the PSP and i fell in love with it but when i started playing TS3 back in the day, i realized how narrow and limiting Castaway stories was and didn't really go back to it even though i adore the concept, just wish it was more free. I'd have loved a Sims 3 version of Castaway stories but based on a pre-civilized Isla Paradiso or maybe with a few already existing tribes you could align yourself, challenge to battle or trade with, or even make your own tribe, do rituals to the island totem to change the weather, fend off pirate attacks and have mermaids be more magical and mysterious. Also Medieval is probably the best sims spin-off. Yes it's a dollhouse simulator, more than any other game in the franchise (i mean the castle you stay in is open on the side you can look through like a literal dollhouse) with storylines and quests but honestly the chaos of the game makes up for the lack of freedom. One day you could throw a criminal YOU CONDEMNED to die into a monster pit, another you, THE REGENT will get sent to collect wood in the forest because everyone in your kingdom is a bunch of lazy asses, and another you will be at WAR with another kingdom battling for supremacy. It's by far the most audacious and chaotic Sims game.
Sims bustin' out was my first sims game and I loved it so much, I played every career to its death. The Urbz was my next favourite followed by the sims 2 castaway on ps2 (which was slightly different and more plot based than the sims castaway stories for pc). I really miss the more plot based spin off games.
I'm praying an indie developer takes the concept of sims medieval and does it better. If EA didn't half-ass it when it first came out, I bet any money it be highly popular like sims 2, and sims 3. The sims medieval could have multiple expansions if they just didn't be lazy with it. Like why were there no family trees, create a kingdom?, or traits from sims 3 in sims medieval? also other than being murder hungry, the sims were only about work in sims medieval. The sims personalities in SM were lacking badly.
Castaway stories and sims medieval are both some of my favorite games of all time - the world is unique and the writing is extremely entertaining. I miss the personality that these games had, it makes the sims 4 feel so bland
All this time I thought it was my love of medieval and stranded/ramshackle settings that made me love these two games but it seems they truly are contenders for the best Sims games ever made.
Loved this video haven’t seen anyone else rank the spin off games! Although you did miss a few, Sim Animals, Sims 2 DS (different version than the PC you run a hotel) and Sims 2 Apartment Pets. I remember the PS2 version of The Sims also had a spin off storyline you could play. My favourite is definitely Urbz! My first time playing the sims was on my mums Nokia back in the early 00’s

NOTHING and I mean NOTHING beats Sims 2 on the DS you got stranded in a small desert town and had to build the hotel from the bottom up. I have replayed it recently and it is still iconic and fun
Sims Medieval... I absolutly love is. The atmosphere, the Quest and holy the music was so dam amazing...! (I would love to see an clothing set for sims 4 with the medievel stuff)
I love the Sims medieval! I still play it! I like how it gave us some lore on the game, like the "origin of the player" being the watcher and all that, i don't know if the spin off is canon or not, but if it is, it just gives you some depth on lore elements that I was curious about, and it was very fun!!
Castaway Stories and Pet Stories are so insanely nostalgic for me! I already had the Sims 2 as a kid, which was my first Sims game, but then one day when I was at the library when I was like twelve I found these two, rented them and played the absolute shite out of it. I extended my renting period so many times because I just wanted to finish them and replay them. I also have Sims Medieval and I absolutely loved it and still play it from time to time, but I always found it a big shame you couldn't play as the family members of your hero sims.
Castaway Stories and Sims Medieval are possibly better than the base games themselves. Absolutely phenomenal spinoffs. Also Medieval had the best and most realistic looking Sims in any Sims game ever.

Medieval is my favourite spin-off game too, you just can't help but ADORE IT!! She serves hard, even after all these years, and the story elements are actually interesting, I didn't feel like I want to skip them. Also can we talk about the CAS? Can we, collectively, as a group of great friends, talk about how GORGEOUS the sims looked?? Like hellooo, the sims 3 could never, and if EA ever remasters any of their older games, I hope they'll go back to that art style instead of the sims 4's. Sure, make it more modern and such, but that half-realistic half-cartoony (?) style worked so hard, I can't even! Just pause the video where Satch talks about the brand new CAS, look at that sim and tell me she isn't beautiful.

I always ask myself why I really like Castaways until you explained that Castaway is like Minecraft but in the Sims 😂 As a person that really love Sims 2 and Minecraft, it's all clear now, thank you hahaha
I remember my computer at the time had trouble running Sims Medieval. It ran great for a couple days; then I could hear the game, but only see a black screen. Turns out my video card could not take Sims Medieval technology. So I did the only logical thing I could do: I bought a new computer (and I have never been rich by any means; I was on a teacher's salary). I bought it just to be able to run Sims Medieval. And I never regretted it. I also kept Castaway Stories, a Sims 2 game, for the longest time; until the advanced computers simply would not run it. If you told me right now that my computer could no longer run Sims 4, I would not care less. However, it you told me that it would not run the Sims 3, oh, I'd make it work!
There's even more spinoffs, back in the day there was a mobile sims 3 and sims 3 ambitions, they just didn't have the shitty freemium system. They were goal oriented, and as you progressed you discovered more goals. They aren't avaliable in the appstore anymore and haven't been for a long time. I still have them in my old ipod touch lmao. There was also a sims 2 version for the Sony Ericsson phone that was basically just the sims 1 lmao

Does Anyone Remeber The Sims 3 Moblie Game it was like the First version of their mobile games which I think they basically turned that into the mobile I guess but it was one of the ways me and my sister entered the world of the Sims games because it was a time when my family barely have paid for computer games other then "learning games" or internet games other then Webkins (that was the tend in my grade 3 days) That was a more fun mobile game well it enteraint me and my older sister on long car rides, and I played the Sims medieval through mobile because I had an I Pad for my (at the time) Learning disabilities and that fun drama (though Neurodiversities a strange thing soo). Yet I'm the Same age as lilsimsie and really feel like a missed out.
(On the PS2) I spent just as many hours in Castaways as I did in Urbz, yet, Urbz definitely wins top spot many times over - at least after building a home in Urbz, ya can place many items of furniture that cannot be done in Castaways that would allow only 3 before *Out of memory* (or something along that line)

I really enjoyed the MySims game... for the DS. So i never got to play what you showed in the video cause that was for another platform, so i cant judge, but i loved the ds one and regreted selling it. It was something different and yes it had potential, i tried to play some of the sequels but they didnt feel as attractive since they werent the same type of gameplay as the first one, like they tried doing more different stuff with them, but for me its the first one for the ds the only winner, i wish i got it
my sims kingdom was not medieval at all! you went on a boat with a pirate and a prince and went to a bunch of different islands and helped build shit and it was amaxing i miss that game so muchhhhh!
Bustin Out should be way higher! Also what about all the other Sims 2 spinoffs like the Sims 2 on DS or GBA versions? But really the best thing about Bustin Out is that it featured a lot of unique objects and interactions that never appeared in later games and still haven't. Strip Poker table anyone?

Sims 2 stories was the only version I owned of sims 2. Never got normal sims 2 except when I'd go to my friends house/sitters house. So stories was amazing for me. Medieval needs a remake. My personal opinion

The Sims consol releases were better for all the other games. They added fresh elements that made each consol release unique. I had the sims 3 pets for playstation, and the cats had the ability to hunt ghosts 👻
you are incorrect. the items for lifee stories, castaway stories, and pet stories absolutely could be carried over into Sims 2. you changed the extension, and they played like brand new items. one person even made a family of all the sims from all 3 games, and i would use them to be townies in a custom town.
Technically they already ruined the franchise via sims 4. Also YAY! Another lover of Sims Medieval! I was fortunate enough to get the deluxe edition or whatever it is, so I had a bunch of unlockables to get etc. Honestly sims 4 got their scenarios from Sims Medieval imo, because they were literally apart of Sims Medieval and how you not only got unlocks, BUT also new gameplay. Gods... to think it's no longer supported... Dx
