Timmy Joe, I love this video! I finally upgraded my main build (X299) from a 7800X to the same 7820X model you were using... and cooled by a Kraken X72! But the best part is THANKS FOR THE TIP about setting performance mode on the pump! Mine had been running in Silent Mode the entire time I have owned it, unbeknownst to me, since (as you said) it cools great that way! But I'm about to do some re-testing with the pump going faster and see if I can get past 4.8GHz or at least take the temps down a bit at that speed. Anyway, great stuff!

Moral of the Story, the 7820X is stupid and makes no sense, the 9900K [something timmy had at one point i think] runs cooler, clocks higher and has better IPC on a normal 1151 socket. Make sure to add lots of corrosion inhibitor to the new liquid after cleaning the Enermax cooler, my theory is that because they have bigger base-plates, the surface area of copper vs aluminum is a lot bigger than other AIOs and thus it requires more corrosion inhibitor than normally, and Enermax still may not be adding enough.

You know what I wish they'd make? A single rad that had two rads in it. Meaning, 4 connection and flow points of which the two sets of two use their own half of the radiator for cooling. This way, you can buy a single rad for a full custom loop, but you'd be able to cool the GPU effectively after the coolant comes off the CPU. AND you wouldn't have to have, find, mount, and route for two radiators. I think a single 420 medium thickness medium fin density with 3 140mm Noctuas would be perfect for this. 140mmx210mm of cooling for the CPU and GPU respectively and only 3 fans. Only other thing one could ask for would be black, white, or black and white Noctua fans instead of brown. I get brand image, but WHY ARE THEY STILL BROWN, NOCTUA!?

Great experiment bud. You should try direct die cooling and get rid of the CPU heat-spreader altogether. You can use foam surrounds that we used to use on the old southbridge and northbridge chips, or you can cut 1mm thermal pads and layer them to surround the CPU die, and that'll help protect against cracking the die. And when you fit the waterblock, DO NOT use the tension springs that normally push down on the socket rods. use as little liquid metal(preferred) as poss and if the CPU has tiny resistors around it, and you feel OK not doing the die surround job, protect them with nail varnish or conformal coating. It seems like we're going back to the old days of the Pentium 4HT when Intel gets to the speed push of their chips series.....it was almost turning everyone to some degree of extreme cooling. >___

I think you'll find that running that setuip in a push+pull setup with different fans, that one set will either be choked, or one set will be forced pushing... even more so if the corsairs are controlled via mobo case fans, and the nzxt fans are controlled by the AIO. Even if both connected to the AIO, they'll never match. Better off getting all fans same, or just running it in a pull or push setup (but ascetically - use corsair fans setup to push.. make use of that temp.glass front, right?) And saying that... Don't think the 680X is the most ideal case.. front panel and even the top panel blocks quite abit of air (check gamers nexus), the Lian Li 011 Dynamic case might be the better choice with a similar look. Granted your testing did show not much of a difference between running the aio in case and out of case.

With these 360 AIOs I think you need to set the software to highest pump/motor speed and highest fan speed. For Kraken 72 that is 2000RPM fan speed and for the motor/pump is 2800 range RPM speed. For the much cheaper S36 360 AIO from Fractal Design it gets 3150RPM motor speed and 2000RPM fan speed. For Thermaltake 360 Floeriing AIO it gets 3600RPM motor speed and 1500RPM fan speed. I'm not sure which is more important, motor speed or fan speed. I think S36 beats Kraken 72. Those are the highest settings for each of those AIOs, the lowest or preset settings may be much lower. Double check their motor RPM and fan RPM on their home web-sites.

Oh my god, all of those temperatures are terrible, I got a used computer that was being operated at that temperature and the board was bulged below the socket and the socket was partially melted. People need to stop complaining about noise because this is why companies are manufacturing coolers that allow cpus to get this hot. If people didn't complain about noise so much, there would be coolers out that would keep that under 50 degrees under load. Because I don't put silent operating before proper cooling, everything in my computer right now is at ambient temperature and my computer is going to be fully functional 10 years later.

Did no one else notice "kraken X78?" I actually tried to look that up

I did as well. At first I thought it was a new version not released yet. Then it dawned on me, that the entire video. He was referring to the Kraken x72 as the x78, which doesn't exist.

you did not lap it.. you mostly scratched the coating.. lapping is supposed to smoothen the surface as much as possible (so no air -which is a bad thermal conductor- can slip in the cracks and also the cracks make the surface uneven which means the headsink wont attach perfectly on that surface. )

Great video man love silent computers thinking about the nzxt AIO for something Just finished a z170 with a 6500 i5 and threw a Corsair h100 I had on it looks slick and sticks near ambient under load kind of unnervingly quiet with the off brand blue light case fans I have throughout the build. As far as the Noctua cooler I would like to see the black and gray redux fans on it to see if it makes it better looking without sacrificing performance.
@JQB45

The Black and Grey fans are not as good as the new Noctua NF-A12 but it should be similar.

Jeff C how different is the question is it worth the swap and can some one convince Noctua to sell it as a option online on their site is what I want to know because black fans on this cooler would do it a world of good

Not in this new fan. It's next level, soon they tell me. Something about it's hard to die the rigid plastics any other color. There's like a mm of tolorance between the blades and the frame.

The Kraken X78 is impressive. I dare to bet that Noctua will strike back with a successor of the D15 with extra heatpipes.

@@2pumpedupforu Always The ease of use, reliability, safety and the low noise level are more important than lower temperatures (the best and newest AIO's) with an extreme load for both the CPU and GPU. At the end of the day are you talking about 0.1-0.2 GHz difference in the worst case scenario if you want to keep the heat under control and in reality it is extremely unlikely that your CPU and GPU will dissipate as much power as with Prime and Furmark running at the same time. Having said that, I welcome the competition of AIO's and the fact that these push Noctua and bq to come with even better aircoolers. I might (unless AMD would bundle a kickass cooler) buy one soon for Zen2 (I will probably buy the 3700X), I am doubting between the bqDRP4 and the D15. Tough choice. The D15 dissipates more heat, the DRP4 comes with slightly better fans (more pleasant pitch) and accomdoates for slightly higher RAM if I am not mistaken. But the DRP4 has 1 140 mm fan 1 120 mm fan and I would prefer 2 240 mm fans. I was thinking about mounting one of the fans on the case, I have a Fractal S with stock one fan in the front and one in the back. Two in the front might be better. Of course it also depends on the motherboard-layout, whether or not the VRM's get their own mini-fans (X570?)...

sweet, you totally read my mind. i was wondering which is better. air or liquid. push or pull. noctua fans are great. got me some. i had a h100i corsair aio on my i7 3770k with 2 x noctua fans that replaced the corsair fans it came with. noticed the heat was hi the other day when i was gaming. got to 79c liquid gone tubes cracking. got a bequit heat sink with fan. under 70c full load now oc to 5ghz with turbo.

I have the same enermax aio as you. I used it briefly on my 9900K test bench and noticed it cools pretty poorly for it's 360mm size. When I contacted enermax tech support, the agent said I should plug it in straight with SATA power and let it run at 100%.

Wraith Prism (0 EUROS) = 69,7 degrees C max (middle noise) Cooler Master Hyper 212X RGB Black Edition (43 EUROS) = 67 degrees C max (quiet) Noctua NH-U12A (using 1 x Noctua NF-A12x25) (104 EUROS) = 65,5 degrees C max (middle noise) Noctua NH-U12A (using 2 x Noctua NF-A12x25) (104 EUROS) = 64,4 degrees C max (very NOISY) be quiet Dark Rock Pro 4 (using 2 default fans) (87 EUROS) = 63,2 degrees C max (very quiet) Noctua NH-D15 SE AM4 (using 2 x Noctua NF-A15) (97 EUROS) = 62,5 degrees C max (very quiet) I used my Ryzen 7 1800X at stock clocks for testing all of these coolers and I care only about the maximum stress temperature results that I can get after around 5 hours of continuous tests compiled out of OCCT v4.5.1 (manual 16 threads, Small Data Set, 40 min), Furmarks cpu bench (16 threads, 30 min), Prime95 (60 min) and Assassins Creed Oddysey (3 hours). All fans on all coolers were used under standard PWM settings which is the default middle setting in BIOS and the most likely to be used by everybody. For the exhaust fan I am using Noctua NF-F12 120mm @ 1500 rpm speed, for the intake I am using Bitfenix Spectre 140mm @ PWM speed because after 5 hours of continuous benchmarks my Fractal Design Focus G Window case is full of hot air especially during playing AC Oddysey on my EVGA GTX 1080 Ti SC2 iCX. For measuring I used HWInfo which is in my experiences for now the most accurate besides HWMonitor. All of these coolers were tested by me over the course of 1 year because I don't want to buy all of them myself but I use some of them from time to time for my own testing when I have to build a rig for a customer and I just borrow a cooler that I want to tryout before I finalize a rig for a customer. Temperatures that I got were taken from a CPU that is relatively cold in comparison with an i7 8700K, i7 9700K or an i9 9900K which may result in bigger differences between temperatures for each cooler. All I know is that these differences do not justify the price hike for Noctua and beQuiet coolers although they are superb in cooling. But unless one uses an i7 8700K, i7 9700K or i9 9900K you would definitely be throwing money literally in the trashcan if you buy anything above Hyper 212X even for moderate OCing. Just don't forget to cool the VRM-s if the VRM chips are inefficient or the heatsinks on them are small.

Timmy, you really should do the lapping on a mirror or pane of glass. Just get a flat piece of sandpaper and tape it to the glass. Otherwise there's a good chance you're making it worse. Your lapping doesn't look very even.
