wow, like an Iceberg. It's the 80 percent you don't see underneath that will get you in trouble. I'm surprised it didn't snap like a wishbone just driving to your house. 0~o Just saw a Japanese built 00-03 Tundra frame for the 1.5 cab on eBay that looks great for $650.

For those that may be Skeptical of Scotty's Staunch Advocacy for the USAF Veteran....Please contact Team Toyota in Indiana and ask them about the 300,000 mile Toyota Tundra that was a 2001 that was never frame sprayed that was not running under its own power - Toyota USA granted a Frame replacement to the tune of $16K in December 2022/Jan 2023. Toyota is Absolutely Unethical - Toyota's Frame Replacement Refusal with this Loyal Owner who Got the Vehicle Thoroughly Inspected and Given Green Light at the Toyota Dealership before purchase through an Audi Dealership - Toyota is Responsible for a Defective Frame Manufacture and furthermore Instructs the USAF Veteran to have it Coated/Sprayed at the Toyota Dealership after purchase and of course it Inevitably Rotted and Toyota knows Coating a Defective Frame is Worthless.

Toyota is acting Dishonorably: Rustbelt - Toyota USA will cover if the frame was NOT Coated per the Toyota Campaign Recall CRC Frame Coating Heed the Toyota CRC Frame Coating Campaign Recall and be punished with Rejection Of Frame Replacement in most cases. Here's what you do. Get signage in big letters for the side of the truck "Toyota makes lemons." Park it in front of the dealership and leave it there 24/7. The go to the local news station and tell them your story that Toyota refuses to compensate military veteran with dangerous truck frame.

I had a good friend in 1975 who bought his first brand new Honda Civic. He and his wife got caught up in some high water…. engine locked up…. bent some rods…… he had 18,000 miles on it …. back when Honda had 12,000 mile warranty. I told him he’s probably out of luck. Honda was SO DEDICATED to keeping customers happy those early days….. Honda gave him a new engine! I could not believe it! He was one happy Honda owner…..👍

Different time. Things were so cheap back then. Even when I started driving in the mid 90's, you could buy a halfway decent used car for $1,000. It's so complex replacing a modern engine, it takes a lot of man hours to get everything right. That's why they're always looking for reasons to deny people's claims.

That's a beautiful truck. It's a shame that Toyota won't fix the problem for the guy. It doesn't matter that Toyota didn't physically make the frame, they should know better. I thought Toyota cared about their reputation.

Toyota replaced the frame on my 2005 Tundra for free. The truck still runs great.

One of the best "You're on notice!" rants...loved it. Yeah, the owner did all the right things, truck looks emaculate, he really deserves to have his ship righted. Shame on Toyota for this failure of using the wrong company for their parts.

2005 Tacoma with Dana frame here. From the factory which was NUMMI in Fremont, CA, the frame was coated with something which looked like black Vaseline. I wondered, but I thought “Toyota, good reputation.” I was wrong. The frame rusted furiously. I was ready to send my truck to the auction house just to be rid of it because I didn’t think it was ethical to sell it. I got a letter from Toyota in 2015 regarding the rust, saying the frame would be repainted or replaced. The dealer inspection deemed the frame unrepairable and Toyota agreed to replace the frame March 2016. The repair took two technicians two days, but the result was like having a new vehicle, and I’m still driving the Tacoma. I don’t know who made the replacement frame, but it is painted with something fairly tough which looks like powder coat or POR-15. After hearing this video from Scotty, I’m pretty reluctant about the idea of buying another Toyota product, especially a US made Toyota product.

@wtmayhew why would you be reluctant to buy another Toyota? Not many manufacturers would replace the frame on your 10+ years old vehicle. Personally, I have my vehicle(not a Toyota) sprayed with a rust inhibitor every spring, because if not, they ALL rust out in 10 years in my area.

​@steve8803 same. Im in a Midwest state and every vehicle rots from the road salt. I'm looking at tundras and considering the option of just buying a new frame in a couple years. Everything else is reliable so it seems like a better option than buying another newer vehicle that's sure to have electrical nightmares at some point.

@@IHWKR That seems like a possible strategy to just not worry about the corrosion. I don’t baby my Tacoma; it gets to the car wash about once a month in the winter. There is an underneath rinse at the wash I use. The frame was replaced in March 2016 and the replaced parts still look decent. I see a few rust specks on the sheet metal of the cargo box which will need attention. Over-all the Tacoma looks better than many 19 year old trucks. The new frames look like powder cost or maybe POR-15. Whatever the coating, it is pretty durable.

One part penetrating oil..one part 80w 90 gear oil...2 parts transmission fluid. Penetrating oil creeps it..trans fluid kills rust..80w 90 gear oil makes it tacky and doesnt wash off. Best period. Tried many experiments. This works .

What has driving a vehicle got to do with it rusting out faster or slower ..... it depends on the climate .... humidity and where the vehicle is stored. Not to mention whether the vehicle has has adequate rustproofing in the factory.

As an owner of 3 current Toyotas, I am shocked and appalled that Toyota wont fix this frame. Makes me wonder if theyre not standing by their products any longer. Come on, Toyota, fix this beautiful Tundra. It deserves to be made right.

I have a 2011 Hyundai sonata. There was a recall that I had forgotten about. It's an A to B car so I run it pretty hard but there was something to do with the internals of the motor. It was past the warranty when the 4 cylinder was toast and let me sit. Towed it to the dealership and they told me it needed a new motor. Was a thousand miles over. Service guy says let me go talk to my manager. He comes back out and said we're going to replace the motor and it won't cost you. They still honored the recall. Id like to see Toyota stand behind this frame. As far as what vehicles are manufactured now id want to say Toyota would be the best or one of the best. This coming from someone who has had GM trucks and would switch in the future. If they won't stand behind that truck id be leary of buying their product too.

The saddest part of this story is that they are replacing 20 to 24 year-old frames, and that is a hard fact for those that did not heat the Toyota frame recall and did not get their frames coated at the Toyota dealership Punish Americans who listened to the Toyota frame recall, who inevitably had their frames Rot despite a worthless coating put on by the Toyota dealership

Thats why Canadians oil spray their cars. Been going to Krown oil spray for decades an never had rust on any of my cars. For just over 100 bucks a year its worth every dime!

Yup. After much research, I believe the lanolin based anti rust sprays, such as Krown, Fluid Film and others seem to be the best for Salt Belt machines. You reapply every one to two years. Sadly there are few and far in-between shops that offer such a service in my area (Chicagoland). The nearest is 200 miles away in central Michigan. So the only option is to do it yourself.

Could be quite the business opportunity. You would own the market there. Every new car I buy goes from the dealer strait to the spray shop, every year for the first 5 to build up the coating then every other after that. Usually sell them 10 to 15 years in and zero rust. @@dkeith45

Should have bought the Nissan that drove bye. 12 year old Frontier 200.000 miles lives out side year round in the Finger Lakes of NY. Frame is still black and truck runs and looks new. I take good care of it. But it does sit outside year round.

I got my 03 Tundra's frame replaced last year. They replaced mine because the frame where the spare is located was rotting away and would cause an accident. That's probably the only reason they replaced it. Good luck to this guy

My 04 Tundra has rust issues. The rear dif is seeping fluid and the bracket that holds the spare tire rusted completely away. My spare tire dropped somewhere, I hope it didn't kill anyone!

I worked at Dana in Glasgow, Kentucky from 2005-2013 and we made heavy axel rear end parts but there was a plant in Elizabethtown that made frames. I wouldn’t be surprised if they made them. Both plants are shutdown now and I’m sure quality is the main reason. I know it wasn’t great at my facility.

I’m very familiar with that online group, and the pattern is is that they are replacing frames to this day for those folks that ignored the Toyota frame recall and did not take their vehicles into the dealership to have th coated. It appears that those that heeded the recall by Toyota are punished because they heeded the Frame Recall and took their vehicles into the dealership

Now do a video on Toyota beds rusting out on contact points due to poor design! Dealer said...we'll coat your frame but unfortunately, the bed (rusting from underneath at the contact points) is not covered. And credit to this Toyota owner for taking care of his truck! bug deflectors, deer whistles, clean in and out! Give the guy a frame!

I know a guy with an ‘02 Tundra that had the frame replaced last May. The body isn’t in as good shape as this one (but still really good for a 22 year old vehicle).

My 2000 Tundra with 113k mi is just as nice as this one. In service date was june of 1999. After 2 visits to my dealer they agreed to replace the frame around Sept 2015. So a little over 16 years old when they did it

I have a 2008 tundra recall frame,brought to dealer sprayed with undercoating,lasted 1 yr coating fell off dealer did a bad job coating,been using ATF-Dawn Dish soap-PBblaster been doing for 5 yrs every fall spray in on .hasnt got any worse just stopped the rusting.

I was a welding specialist for the company that currently manufactures chassis for Toyota (Tacoma and Tundra) here in Mexico, and Toyota definitely gives you the specs from material to paint and they even do their own testings.

I had a 2004 crew cab. Toyota had a frame replacement program ( they had two stacks of new frames in the lot, and a couple of rusted ones that didn't look any worse than mine). They determined mine was not a replacement candidate, and they coated it. It kept corroding and I traded it in 2016, It was a great riding and driving 7/8 size truck.

The old Tundras (up to 2006) were not really full-sized compared to Ford and Chevy. 2007 up were. I actually liked the old size better for my needs. @@paulcoenen7918

6:30 I would say he takes care of the truck BUT he should re-position his deer whistles. Looks like he over- theorized in the installation with some OCD in the mix which isn't bad but I digress. Is the right whistle on the right side and the left whistle mounted on the left side? Follow the instructions when all else fails. Another great video.

I owned a 2004 taco i had 331000ks on it and I wanted to keep it until I retired , so I had a mechanic go from bumper to bumper and replace the struts, steering box all the brakes and lines , clutch ,pressure plate etc. Then he said I should a front end alinement done ,well when I took it to an honest shop the alignment guy came and got me ,he said don't put any more money into it because the frame was gone and it was rotten ,I put over 5,000 cnd into it and I tried getting my money back Toyota pretty laughed at me ,I went to a couple of dealerships and they my truck was too old or another said they had fixed the problem by 2004 so now I'm S.O.L I sold the truck for parts and 2,000 for ,I've a Toyota fan for years I've owned 5 over my years ,my mother has owned several too as well as a few relatives I was disappointed with Toyota s response keep up the good work Scotty ,Garry from Ontario

A lot of this rust is being caused by winter driving. It happens shortly after the roads were salted. I remember watching the local news a few weeks ago. They said the salt would damage your vehicle if you left it on more than ten days. The problem is that many people have no way of removing the salt during the winter unless they can find a place to wash the car.

@Scotty I had a 2005 4-Runner which was bought new in NY state and after 10 years with 75,000 miles developed holes in the frame. . They were not anything like that frame but with the body still looking fine I decided to trade it in before I had more trouble.especially since the transmission cooling line had a tot hole which prompted my mechanic friend to replace. I don't know where it was made, but I never heard about this problem before. I really loved that truck, but I knew that more trouble would follow.I went to a different dealer who gave me over 10K towards a Rav-4 in late December of 2015. They never looked underneath it! I had my mechanic friend spray under coating everywhere he thought it might need it after spraying it clean in spring.

I bought a new Pinto in 1971 and lived just a few miles south of Boston on the sea shore. It was amazing how quickly the body began to rust. A couple of years later I moved to Washington state and then to Louisiana. The rate of rusting did slow down but it never stopped.

For months you've been saying buy a Toyota because they last forever. So don't buy a Toyota? Which is it? My 2010 Toyota Prius has something >220,000 miles on it & no major problems. My only disappointment has been the navigation screen cracked because I tapped it with my knuckle once when it wouldn't open because it covers the CD changer, but if it's hot/summer or cold/winter then it wouldn't function correctly. It did that from day 1 when I bought it new with like 12 miles on it. The touch screen would not stay open to change CDs. So with a cracked NAV screen, none of the audio controls work, like EQ settings, & touch screen navigation doesn't work. Toyota wanted $4800 to replace it, not counting labor, but that was several years ago.

Scotty, tell him to check with Toyota in Bowling Green Ky. My son in law just had his replaced on his 2002 Tundra. He just bought it from a guy in Murfreesboro Tn. And went straight to the dealer and they took care of it. My son in law lives in Franklin Ky.

I have a 2005 Toyota Sequoia that is rotting, I brought it to Toyota Oakbrook and they deny to replace it several years ago and now the rust didn't stop. I'm taking good care of it but one day I have a stroke. So I guess one day that SUV will die with me bec. If the weather here in Illinois. Same though ng with tundra,I baby my Sequoia. It's very obvious that this 2005 Sequoia batch frame was cover by recall but instead they just coat it to delay the rusting recall period time. Toyota Japan should step up and do something about it they really care about their customer and not just false advertisement. Toyota should repeat the recall inspection again to see that their first decision not to replaced the frame was a failure to Toyota.. thank you Oakbrook Toyota Illinois

I've had issues with the same model and years from Toyota, Scottie asked me down to his place to do a similar video to show the problems and try to make Toyota own up to the mis engineered parts, My frame was replaced on the second one i bought, But then my leaf springs cracked, The same year Tacoma's are recalled, but they won't do the tundras for some reason?, secondly the bumper sub frame has failed inspection for the premature rotting of metal, the dealer said it wasn't part of the recall, its only the frame, what it I get in an accident? The third problem is a proportional brake valve off the master cylinder, its very well known, the only fix is to buy the master cylinder new, $2,000, For a part that should be recalled due to failure from design. I love my truck, but this lack of respect for the consumer and the publics safety is a huge oversight of great proposition by the manufacturer and national highway safety . Please make this right and road worthy from manufacturer guide lines. Only you can prevent deaths from mistakes Toyota

I literally just replace the brake load proportioning valve for $30. If you want the OEM one it's $350. The only thing I hate is the ball joints

@@dillonkoch72 I also have a stepside bed for sale , it's really nice on the outside, comes with tail gate and bed flares, will need taillights, the bed has 2 fist size rust holes by the wheel wells, able to fix and bedline over fix, if anyone is interested, Yard sale Facebook in Keene NH area, $500, originally $700, I paid $2,500 for my replacement. Hate for such a specimen to go to the scrap yard.

I had a 2001 tundra, fortunately i bought the 5yr warranty and Toyota replaced the transmission 4 or 5 times with a total of around 6 times it was in the shop for the transmission. One Toyota mechanic said if they installed a transmission cooler it might fix it but the manager said it would void the warranty. The manufacturer only offered a $1500 coupon to buy a new one. What was also sad was the ball joint which was not covered by the warranty the years after were. My ball joint broke 4 times while i was driving. I didn't feel comfortable selling my truck so i junked the truck. I don't trust Toyota anymore.

I bought a used 2001 Tacoma years ago for $7500. Toyota paid $11,000 to put a new frame under it. On my current 2015 Tacoma, you can still clearly see the original stickers on the frame after 8 winters here in salty Maine. I think my 2001 Tacoma had a frame made by Borge Warner in Mexico if I remember correctly.

Sorry Scotty...but the Hino frames made in Japan rot crazy fast too, just google FJ Cruiser frame rust...and there are lots of 4th Gen 4Runners with swiss cheese frames. My FJ gets fluid filmed every year, and I have a winter beater to keep the FJ safe. If you don't keep up on it...they rot away. It's my only real complaint about Toyota...their metallurgy in the steel back then isn't right.

Yes, I have a 2003 4Runner made in Japan and it has frame rust. Not too bad because I’m on the west coast, but it will shorten the life of a vehicle that would otherwise go another 20 years.

i have a 01 tundra up here in Buffalo NY with no frame rust. Brought it up from Dallas TX in 2011 and i spray the complete undercarriage with oil every year.

Im in the same boat with my 2000 tundra. Luckily all my rust is in the back half of the frame, which isnt boxed in like the front half. I think i can at least have mine cut out and replaced. Ive had mine since 07 and after 4-5 years of owning it i got a recall on my frame. I went to my local dealership and they sprayed w/e it was on mine as well, and because i had went in, like they told me to, that also made me ineligible for a replacement frame. Ive had more toyotas than ive had seriouse girlfriends and all of them, from the 87 vanwagon to my 4 different pickups 84, 88, 89, and a super mint 91 all 4x4s. Then my avalon and even the tundra have all been awesome and capable machines. It pains me that as great as toyota has been to me over the years they just totally left me and countless other with a great looking truck hat runs strong and has to sit in the driveway because of how unsafe it is to drive. Sorry for the rant Scotty and other commenters. Just hate to see a good company doing low down, penny pinching strategies.

The way Toyota is Acting is Absolutely Unethical and Unimaginable in Rewarding those that Ignored Toyota’s Frame Coating Recall and Punishing those that did heed Toyota’s Recall. And Reflects Very Poorly Upon them especially with this Loyal Owner and USAF Veteran

Mine is a 2005, “we’re going to coat it”. The coating did it worse than leaving it alone. My 05 DC limited was an awesome truck. Drove it for 5 years and a mechanic working on my exhaust made a comment about the lower control arms mounting spots were both gone.

Must be the dealership having techs that can do the swap (Ohio). Took my 05 Taco in after sitting in the backyard for 4 years for getting back on the road. Picking it up and they said your frame is on order, and they replaced the leaf springs. $9k later, I have a new chassis on Toyota's tab! This was 6 years ago....

Yes - The 1st time was March 2021 - "I Just Lost My Faith in Toyota" - Toyota does not care about the USAF Veteran's Safety - If you call the Toyota Dealer - What Toyota is doing is crazy - they reward those who ignored the Frame Recall - and did not get the Frame coated at the Dealership - Free Frame Job to this Day - Free March 20204 - Dilapidated 2000 Tundra got its Frame Replaced for Free - Posted by the Toyota Mechanic - Tik Tok Video - "Rust Belt Tundra gets its Frame Replaced under Warranty". Lanolin works, even in high road salt states. Use it every year on your frame and it won't rust. Do not wash it off in winter.

Glad you shared my Tacoma. Had the same issue with Toyota refusing to do anything. Right before that pic was taken I was on Interstate 395 going 70 mph!!! I sent them all my info and was told I never complied in time for the recall. To which I replied I had never been alerted and sure enough although I had owned the truck for 11 years and they admitted my name wasn't in their system. Well they lost a loyal customer of 27 years and I bad mouth them every chance I get.

No - they are still presenting the US Air Force veteran and the Toyota head dealership service manager, a US Army veteran, who has been advocating and reaching out on his behalf with Toyota. @@scottmallory3507 the US Air Force veteran apparently still doesn’t have a new frame otherwise Scotty would’ve updated us He did a video on this truck in March 2021 entitled I just lost my faith in Toyota Advocacy for the US Air Force veteran through the US Senate commerce science, and transportation committee and reaching out to both the Republican side, and the Democratic side would be very helpful requesting for a formal investigation

We’re still waiting on Toyota to Do the Right Thing from what Scotty is sharing? The best thing to do is to call the US Senate commerce, science and transportation committee - calling both the Republican side and the democratic side and simply requesting a formal investigation with regards to this would really help the USAF Veteran
