I Finally Got The Single Player DayZ Zombie Survival RPG I’ve Been Craving - Surroundead 

Hey there! 3D artist that works on the game here. Just wanted to clarify a few things for people that could get cold feet thinking this game is just an asset flip. It is not! Tho we do use a lot of synty assets we also have loads of tailor made models, textures and animations specificaly for this game! The dev (Z) really cares about quality and fun, and we are always working as hard as we can to make this game the best it can be! If you are reading this you really should give it a try, lots of stuff on the works and big plans for the future as well!

15:10 So, probiotics you get in the store would probably be gone. But you can still easily make them. Basically anything pickled or fermented is a probiotic. Yogurts, pickles, cheese, Kombucha, they would all work.

For those who also don't know how to get credits, they are usually found in safes that require lockpicking. There are also now traders in certain safe zones where you can exchange money for credits, though I only know that from patch notes and haven't actually used one yet.

I got a real kick out of the police desk having a piano inside it.

I like how a .308 rifle is referred to a varmint rifle. The .308 is a full-sized rifle round. It's used to hunt elk, mule deer, axis deer, and can even put down a moose. Definitely not for "small game"

for those that are not splat.. the APC wrecked there is also loot and can have very good stuff in it.

Just a fun little tidbit, I'm the one that suggested to Zurvivor(dev) to add the grid size on the backpacks descriptions. It was very difficult early on the quickly see which bag was bigger without opening every one and counting the grids. I got killed a few times doing it. I also run the game on "apocalypse" mode, turn zombie spawn amount to double, zombie health a bit lower (to offset size) set ALL loot to rare and turn stamina regen speed to half. Makes it a whole new game!

NICE! A singleplayer only DayZ sounds good to me. I used to play DayZ and for the most part I liked it, but I got tired of being killed by other players 99% of the time so this game sounds like something I will like.

bought this game a year ago. it's been the best little game i've bought. i keep coming back to it and every time i do there's a shwack of new updates and things to explore. it's bloody marvellous! thanks for introducing me to this title. :D trade credits are found in safes that are scattered through the world. usually on a second floor somewhere. you'll need to upgrade your lockpicking to get into them.

Been a while since I've played this, so not sure how much has been changed, but you probably shouldn't have thrown out that container at the start. Those can be used to effectively expand your carrying capacity. Especially general containers that can store anything. You can also find First Aid Kit/containers to store medical supplies, ammo box containers for ammo and lunch boxes for food and water. All so they don't take up to much space in the backpacks/pockets. Granted you have to fish them back out of the containers to use them, but they are helpful if you're bit of a hoarder... like myself. lol I do know they took away the ability to have backpacks in backpacks, but I'm sure having other containers in there is still possible.

Feels like Project Zomboid and State of Decay had a baby. Honestly, not being someone who's constantly playing every new indie game, I quite enjoy these visuals. I can understand someone like yourself being tired of seeing the same assets over and over, however. Overall seems like something I'll end up sinking far too many hours into in the near future 😂

the siren is a tornado/storm warning, there is one in my town that sounds exactly the same and it is loud af.

Definitely sounds like a tornado siren. They go off every first Friday of the month during the summer here.

I spent so long playing this game when it first came out, built a massive base, almost every legendary weapon ect. Then they did a huge update that completely wiped my file witch put me off playing for ages.. But it's a really solid game that I recommend for people looking for a good single player zombie game. I bought this game a little while ago and I'm enjoying it immensely! It's a little rough around the edges but that's fine at this stage of development, and as you say it's being updated an enormous amount :) Highly recommended for something more chill than DayZ, but still very engaging. This game for an early access has quite a lot of things to do and explore. I had only great fun so far. What i also like is the dedication of the dev., saw him actively communicating with players on reddit when there is bug or suggestions. Updates are pretty regular. Really liking it so far, if he continues like so far, this will be just even better and i won't hesitate to get DLCs if he releases any. Keep it up Zurvivor!

Synth assets are great for prototyping, but they should be replaced as soon as possible. When I see a Synth asset I immediately think it's a asset flip, the issue is that sometimes I'm wrong and could be a great game behind it.

Been playing this game since september, and 5 or 6 patches ago, great game, and growing...

The look of this and even style of menus remind me a little bit of Unturned, a free zombie survival game that was massive a few years ago (still gets updated). Looks fun tho! Always in for more survival/crafting games

Stumbled on your video after getting about halfway through I went and purchased the game on steam. I wasn't sure about the art style at first but hell the gme looks like a bunch of fun. So thanks for showcasing it.

An Indie developer simply does not have the money to have assets produced for his game, he either buys synty assets or his game never sees the light of day...only 2 alternatives really so personally I think people should stop making a fuss about this

The siren in this video is the same kind used in my local communities as a weather warning. They sound when a severe weather event has been verified to warn people to take shelter. It is likely to be on a government building but could just be on a utility pole assuming the dev is being realistic and not just generating the sound in the region.

I've seen this game a few times on Steam, cool to see someone checking it out. I'm a big fan of zombie games myself, and set out to make my own. I have a demo up on Steam now, it's called Barricade. For those that want, the backpack stacking is disableable when creating a new game, just enable the option "Disable Backpack in Backpack" under Loot/Enviroment Also, thank the gods for packs like Santy, many great games wouldn't exist without them

I like such single player "clones" of popular PvP(vE) games, sometimes I wanna play these types of games without the hassle of other players, whether friendly or hostile.

Out of all the game review/let's play RU-vid out there, I think Splattercat is my absolute favorite. He's funny, down to earth, speaks his mind and doesn't sugar coat issues he finds. Splattercat is just your average everyday gamer that thinks and says the same shit we all do when playing games, and doesn't act all wild and crazy for no reason...

I had to go on a deep-dive through my Steam library because I could have sworn I had this game already. Turns out I was thinking of a different game that is very similar that Splat covered a while back called Fargone. Guess I'll try this one out too.

Don't bother looting common guns, for selling, they return nothing compared to the stash room they take. Small things that return good money is the way to go.

This is a fun game to play for a casual like me. I have nearly 500 hours on this game. I normally go back to it when significant new content drops. Getting Legendaries and Credits is simple enough if you want to put in the effort and do a bit of farming.

For a long time I've been thinking that it would be amazing if there were tons of asset packs like this one, free or not, ready to use for developers. It would move budgets into other areas of development and cause overall better games for everyone. I absolutely love games that manage to pull off bought/free assets.

I'm glad there's no durability on tools. I hate that. Like, why can I chop down trees for multiple days in a row with an axe in the real world and maybe need to sharpen it a bit, but in a game I hit 12 zombies in the head with it and it suddenly becomes unusable?

Got this a few weeks ago it rocks, the bag in bag inception can get mad 😂 but it's good too 😊. Loving it, it's hard, but fun, and the save function is great for just jumping in and out, fills the hole that online games and ones that make you go somewhere to save, don't for me. Old Original STALKER player here, and old guy who loves it's hard but chilled face. Plus being able to load my music in and play it on the car/house/jukebox stereos is good too.

Its a good game wuth great support from the dev regularly and is always ready to listen on the games discord

The game looks good as it stands - I particularly liked the scope optics, that looks like it'd be fun. This game would not scare me whatsoever.

Former music producer with a weird 1-off on the Synty assets: When you use digital assets or sound design products from the market, you get accused of "over-using" sounds or sound architecture. For instance, the Korg Triton synthesizer has a very distinct sound and other producers will hear it and know what "patch" you used, sometimes even if you edited the patch. Furthermore, certain VSTs (virtual studio technology, or a virtual instrument for digital production) have a specific "sound" or timbre created by their effects chain, recording bitrate, and other DSP (digital signal processing) related quirks. I feel like some of the nit picking gamers and reviewers make is qualitatively the same. You play or review so many games so you just have a dead zone for the same assets even if they're used in a new way or improved upon. That said, no clue if that's the case here. Just food for thought as people review or watch reviews on this type of game.

Never understood why zombies have blood gushing out. It would coagulate a few hours after death. It also wouldn't be red without oxygen circulation. It should black sludge spewing out. Being a nurse kinda ruins games when they try to be gory for no reason. I loved Dysmantle so this looks like a good game beside those pet peeves I have.

it's probably just a warning siren someone set of as a distraction, it wouldn't be unreasonable to expect the zombies to walk directly toward the loudest noise

Tornado siren is an odd choice, but depending on where you are, multiple sirens to draw zeds to those locations could make sense. Here’s my problem with that though. They’re so loud, it’s really hard to tell where the sound is exactly coming from. I’ve lived in tornado alley all my life. It’s a sound I hear often. It sounds like the siren is coming from all directions when you’re near one. Honestly, I’d rather use Klaxons. That way you could carry it around with you, leading zeds away with a vehicle that doesn’t require any power aside from cranking a handle by hand. I think I’d rather lead them away as opposed to group zombies up in my town. It’s definitely loud enough to draw zombies in that could have possibly roamed away.

I wish you wouldn't hate on asset packs so much. They help push the boundaries of what small indie studios or solo developers can do. I'm sorry we're not all gods of every skillset required to make a video game. Graphics aren't all that important anyway to make good games. Getting an asset pack as complete as Synty that allows consistency across most of your game is invaluable for many.

I'm liking the multilevel aspect. I've been enjoying Humanitz recently, and this seems like an fps version of that. I'm recognizing a lot of the items... but then again, a lot of that is probably very common in zombie survival games. I might pick it up... definitely if they implement multiplayer to allow coop, at least.

I don't mind if indie devs use Synty. Not everyone is or can afford an artist. As Splatty notes, what matters is how good the game is.

I got this in a Humble Bundle deal, looked at it once and forgot about it. Dangers of giving away cheap early access games! Looks like it's going to be more fun now though. A note on rigging: It's the process of preparing a model for animation, so the assets are already rigged. What this developer lacks is a bunch of animations, which are just not fun to make manually, and difficult for a solo to set up if you want mocap. I'm sure it's a low priority though, with more interesting animations coming as higher priority changes are done. Going by the patch notes, there's been a decent amount of work done in bursts. I hope the dev doesn't lose all interest, because it's coming along nicely.

A game that is majority 'melee combat' and 'looting' needs to have much better combat and looting. I don't get game development nowadays. Most complaints on Steam revolve around melee combat and it looks bad as I'm seeing it. Some complaints around looting. The looting looks weak overall with the infinite 'bag in a bag' thing. There needs to be weight as a factor. That's just one issue. Combat needs more dynamics. Block, dodge, push, anything. Guns don't seem to do enough damage. AI pathing looks horrendous. If those two elements were dialed in I would buy this immediately. Some of the other stuff I could live with while it updates. Game was released in June of 22 so not exactly fresh off the press.
