I want to live in this dress now! 🖤
I am thrilled with the results of my version of a live-action Snow White dress, although it was not my easiest sewing project due to attempting to add some historical elements.
Nothing brings me greater joy than reviving an old project, I'm sure my fellow ADHDers know what I mean - the scatter brain always goes full circle eventually.
We were desperately losing daylight when we shot this dress so I can wait to actually get it outside during morning hours for some well lit results. Question is… can I make it out before we lose all the autumn leaves? 🍂🍁

If the bones are made of plastic: Place a towel over the boning and gentle steam the bones flat. If that doesn't work alternate the curves in the channels. So one curves inwards one outwards. This will also help.

I actually scrolled down to the comments when she asked that question to see if anyone had said to do this! I haven't made any garments with boning as of yet, but I remember Bernadette Banner (I think) doing this. I actually just bought corset supplies to sew an Edwardian corset.

Your kidding! I’m currently gathering supplies to make an Edwardian corset, don’t suppose you’ve found a good pattern yet? I’m struggling 😬 Hoping for a straight front one but will accept an s-bend if I can’t find one

@@MadameMyriad Depends on which era of the Edwardain you are looking for. Truly Victorian has a lovely Early Edwardian as well as a lovely 1910s corset. Scroops Patterns also has a lovely Early and Teens, (I've made the teens one super simple and quick make) and Black Snails has an Early Edwardian that doesn't have as many gores, which is easier for beginners but still a more intermediate piece as you need to be able to stitch accurately. :) All three are really well constructed. Hope this helps.

Disney should have hired a team of RU-vid cosplayers and designers, including yourself because you would have made the movie bearable to look at, the dress is absolutely gorgeous! I hope to see more of your creative work in the future

Thank you, that really made my day 🖤😊 I remember when the first BTS picture was released and I honestly thought it must be a fake or a press stunt to drum up attention because there’s no way that’s the actual dress … maybe that was just wishful thinking 😂

They really are! All I can hope is that it’s on purpose because the colour grading in the final film will shift it a lot. ( Like in The Hobbit how all the dwarves were basically orange on set because that would look normal in the final film) … I’m going to continue to wishfully think until the last moment 😂

Yea it’s been a real rollercoaster to be productive when my brain wants to stare into the void for 3 hours instead 😂 I used to really struggle with it until I found other women online being honest about it which really helped me so I try not to hide my adhd or autism in videos because of that

Never heard of you before this, but Snow White was the first ever disney princess I ever saw, and thus remains one of my all time favorites. Love what you did with adding in all those gorgeous but painstaking details :)

Absolutely love the dress - very well done! Also very glad you asked about sorting out the curled boning - we both needed some tips! My usual solution is just wearing the garment until the boning gets into the right shape (which is a valis method but not exactly quick). Keep up the nice work!!

For the curling boning. 1. You didn't mention if you tried heat before putting them under books to flatten. I use my hair dryer to warm up the plastic. 2. When inserting the boning that is curling I alternate which way the curl is going. One curls inwards next curls outwards. They tend to couteract a bit of each others curl.

I didn’t even think to use heat, I’ll try using the iron on the bodice then some books to flatten it down, I mainly want to get the front to stop curling in so much 😂 The alternating trick is a great shout too, definitely going to utilise that going forward. This is so beautiful! I definitely NEED to check out that book now! For boning, I tend to just use the curled boning, but arrange it so it curls away from my body to prevent any bubbles and prevent the fabric from curling away from my body and instead I find it helps to coform the shape of my bodice to my body if that make any sense 😅! I love finding new sewist channels to subscribe to!!!

I believe you can iron the boning straight. Snow white, a tale of terror was my favourite. Great cast and costumes. Loved your finished version, so much better than the new movie version! ❤

I actually need to work with boning again today so I’ll be testing everyone’s advice later, thank you ☺️ I looked up the trailer for that and cannot believe I have never watched it, it looks so good, I want the dvd so bad! I use a dead stock fabric supplier called amo threads, as I bought it all over a year ago the stock is long gone now but it’s a really great site for unique fabrics - you just have to check back regularly as stock changes so fast 😊

Lovely outfit. Since the gown is finished you might want to lace the bodice on to your dressmakers manakin for a few weeks to help with the curved bones.

Thank you ☺️ That’s a good shout! Some people recommend gently heating them then pressing flat so I might try that then put it on the mannequin to set it in place … if that makes any kind of sense 😄

@@MadameMyriad Yes if you have a steamer for your clothes, you could steam the bodice so the bones are warm before putting it on the manakin.

Disney needs to hire a whole heap of new workers, everyone shoukd be fired and just hire youtube creaters. I would love to see what people from viva la dirt leauge and similar channels, along with sewing channels like you, Bernadette, morgan donnar, that guy that does the anime to live acting and the guy who does the action recording sequences with cosplayers. Could all do.

Unfortunately even when productions have genuine talent on board, a bunch of executives look at data and make all the decisions based off trends and profits, completely ignoring creative input for the individual project 😔 I do love seeing creatives collaborate to pull of smaller scale projects though, like when Lilly on the moon and Nikita cosplay filmed live action clips of Tangled and Barbie, the production quality is amazing! (Also I hadn’t come across Morgan Donner before, their channel looks really cool! Thanks for the introduction)

Beautiful dress 😻😻😻👍🏻👍🏻. I probably would have made the ribbon trim on the sleeves a bit longer so they would have stood out a bit at the top of the sleeve instead of laying flat but that the only tweak I would make. So much prettier than that ugly yellow red and blue cartoonish thing 😊 One of the other commenters is right, they should hire cosplayers or historical home sewers. Miss R’s dress was ugly 🤢

Thank you! 🥰 You might be right about the trim, this was my first time embellishing anything and I was super anxious about using too much/going too big and ruining it 😬 Yea it does feel cartoonish doesn’t it, I feel like there’s a fine line when designing true to an animation and they fell on the wrong side of it 😅

Nikita Cosplay originally had a batch of hardcovers printed but once they all sold out she continued to sell the book and patterns digitally. (She looked into getting it printed again but the costs were too high) I bought mine about two years ago now. Honestly though I have found it so helpful starting out that I would still buy it digital and just print it out and keep it in a big folder for reference. It covers so many sewing basics, as well as make up, wig styling and photo shoots too
