The other problem with the shade of red that they chose for Halle Bailey’s Ariel is because the ocean is already so dull, it causes her hair to look like it blends into her skin. Making her hair a much more vivid red would have added more color and contrast, and made her more of a fantasy character.
the art made by fans of her with red hair and all the dresses in the animation is a thousand times better than the film, it gives the impression that she is a real Ariel
I may be completely off topic here but.... eh. The most stupid thing they did is to make the sea not vibrant at all. Including swapping species for the two friends (one became a land crab and the other not an albatross). Sea life is so vibrant they can make you look at zoos pitifully. Even Shark Tale can be referred if they do any homework with existing 3d sealife movies, or if they just take a look at actual sealife documentaries. It's a shame. Not to mention now there will be no Melody existing in the future because now Ariel is asexual.
I agree with Mulan's redesign. Idk how accurate this is but red strikes me more as a royal color while Mulan is just a soldier. Would've loved to see a mere footsoldier in green kick some hhigh-ranking butt.
If you want the best Mulan live action watch the Vicky Zhao's one. To me she IS Mulan. And yes she wore everything (no freestyle banshee hair, no hidden inherited Qi BS, no witch archenemies), like in this PS version.
I have enough interest in Chinese culture that i started to leave a comment, and then i wasn't sure about stuff so i googled, and honestly I'm just gonna c+p the wiki section on the color red in Chinese culture (note i also know enough to know this is not fully comprehensive of all red's historical associations etc but it'll do) Red (红; 紅 hóng), vermilion (丹 dān), and crimson (赤 chì) are associated with masculine yang energy and fire, good fortune and joy. Red is the traditional color used during Chinese New Year and other celebrations, including weddings and wedding gowns. Chinese reds are traditionally inclusive of shades English might consider orange or warm brown. A hongbao, a red envelope stuffed with money, now frequently red 100 RMB notes, is the usual gift in Chinese communities for Chinese New Year, birthdays, marriages, bribes, and other special occasions. The red color of the packet symbolizes good luck. Red is strictly forbidden at funerals as it is traditionally symbolic of happiness.[7] The names of the dead were previously written in red,[citation needed] so it is generally somewhat offensive to use red ink for Chinese names in contexts other than official seals. In the People's Republic of China, red remains a very popular color and is affiliated with and used by the Communist Party and the government. Meanwhile from the section on blue/green (there's not a distinction between blue and green in Chinese) "[blue/green] was associated with health, prosperity, and harmony." Plus everything with like, jade and stuff. So honestly, green is a WAY better fit on every level lmao. Also i now feel weird knowing they always put Mulan in red text.
Honestly, I always liked Cinderella’s live action dress the most but also felt like something was missing that I couldn’t put my finger on… you NAILED it!!!
I agree, I did think she was the best representation of all the live action films thus far and seeing the accessories and updo made the look even better!😄😊
This was the best of all your redesigns IMO. You didn’t do much to the dress, but everything you did made it look closer to the original! Standing ovation here! 👏
They cgi’d the dress into the darker blue that’s in the movie, so the actual dress that was made for the movie looks sort of like the redesigned one if I remember correctly. I think the original dress almost looked like it was painted with watercolors.
Disney really did Halle dirty. They should have kept the scene when king triton makes her human and she has the sparkly dress, the costume department would have had a field day making Halle something amazing to wear.
It’s almost as if they stirred up controversy on purpose to get people talking about the movie, in order to sell it. It’s unethical, but a lot of brands do this these days to sell their products - intentionally create controversy to get people talking about their products. As some people say, “all press is good press”. Just think of people like The Kardashians, or Trump - they do this too. Unfortunately, though, when corporations use people like Halle for such purposes without telling them about their plans, innocents like her get caught in the crossfire. And she had to put up with a lot of stress and racism as a result, and didn’t get the fair treatment that she should have received as a Disney Princess. Ariel wears several beautiful dresses in the film, and has gorgeous hair. They didn’t give her any of that. Her costumes for the marketing were good, but that was about it. And she tried very hard. I personally didn’t like the film, and I definitely prefer everything about the original to the remake, even including the songs (I know that a lot of people like Halle’s voice, but I felt that she did not receive good direction, and prefer the original songs). However, I don’t blame Halle for that, and no one should. I blame Disney. Anyone who blames Halle for the film failing is vicious, and probably quite prejudiced. I definitely think that this was a case of Disney intentionally trying to make their film controversial, to drum up interest. Controversy just equals free advertisement for them. They stopped caring about the quality of their films long ago, and Halle ended up being a scapegoat for their unethical practices. It’s a hard lesson for her to learn, but at least she has made a name for herself now and has lots of fans, and hopefully she can navigate the industry wisely from here on out. I personally had a horrible experience in the industry when I was younger, and it caused me to leave all of my dreams behind, right when I was on the precipice of attaining them. I realised how awful Hollywood is, and how much they use and abuse young women. So I hope that she at least understands that her fame has now given her power to protect herself from those who would use her and cause her harm. And that she learns to differentiate between studios who are passionate about making movies for the sake of art, and those who are interested in making movies because they are creepy, pretentious, greedy, or interested in using her in some way without telling her - just as she was used here by Disney.
Omg yesss. I’ve been saying the same thing. It’s one of the most iconic and memorable moments in the animated movie. Why didn’t they translate that into the live action. + they didn’t give her pretty outfits in the live action.
Belle's redesign looks too victorian. The golden hue is perfection but the gown should look more like something out of Marie Antoinette's wardrobe. The Snow White redesign looks really neat, I love how simple yet elegant it is. Apparently a lot of that movie is being reworked in reshoots, so it is likely that costume design will change a bit as well.
I think in the animated original movie, indeed, Belle’s gown IS victorian. It’s gorgeous but absolutely not history accurate. (In fact Cinderella’s gown from the live action is like the original’s Belle one but blue, without the « puffy fabric over the skirt ») and yes, it would have been great if it was more Marie-Antoinette like. Like the side characters, figurants dancing at the end.
The silhouette and style of Belle's gown is definitely more victorian in silhouette, which doesn't match the historical setting of the rest of the movie.
@@jahanshadi1934that’s why Disney movies are set in a fantasy world with its own history and everything, so that’s why we can’t say something is historically accurate when it’s a parallel/different universe
I dont know, i guess this is inspiration ? Bollywood style is full of songs, dances and colors, it fits with Disney cartoons. I guess it can be some reasons.
@@asimnegi5078 It’s not ancient Chinese… it’s from a thousand and one nights, the name Aladdin is literally Arabic. In some versions of the story, it starts with “In a faraway land called China”, but the story itself isn’t actually Chinese and even then it’s only a few versions that start that way. Even if it was an ancient Chinese story (which it wasn’t), what would that have to do with Bollywood movies? China is in east Asia not South Asia.
@@-Theo- It’s really odd and wonky as to where the Aladdin story is supposed to take place (I mean the OG fairytale, not the Disney version). The narrative did say it took place in China originally, but they still used Arabic terms and gave us an Arabic feel for, well, the whole setting. So it’s confusing, but I’ve always gathered that it actually is supposed to be Arabic.
I think casting Emma Watson was the huge mistake consider how much she ended up changing the plot and the dress, we would have had a Cinderella gown 2.0 but instead we got this monstrosity of a dress
She complained about the weight of the dress so they CGId it to makei t look fuller and you can really tell . . . EDut: such an emma, thing to do, she did it with harry potter hence the infortunate loss of curls and school uniform in the latter movies. Its a shamme how she single handedly thwarts the potentially great costume design of every movie she featuresin Edit: 105 likes tysm guys 💖
@@Heejinbunnyyeah which is stupid because I think Lily talked about how her dress surprisingly way lighter than she thought it was gonna be, even though she did sort of get a little cinched and a little bit more than she should’ve
And Lily at least wore the damn corset ! Emma was too “feminist “ to do so ! On top of visually destroying Belles gown ! They gave her WAY too much lead way .
Emma Watson cast to play hermione Granger - loves books, spends a majority of her time in the libray Belle - loves books spends a majority of he time visiting the towns booktore/libray 🤔 These characters have far too much in common and they both resemble each other in looks
@@jesslockwood7978 the issue is she didn’t play Belle good or represent what Belle means really , even down to the dress . We don’t care if she looks like her . She was PERFECT as Hermoine tho .
Right the only thing she really needed tweaked (like all woc) is the mesh so that the illusion was there. Actually there, not party city or something. I also wanted her to actually have just a two piece set (no mesh nothing flowy all that) like the one from the animated movie but I thought it was still pretty.
same but i also loved the redesign. as bad as the live action film was the costumes and outfits were amazing. i even loved her outfit when she was in the shop where she first met aladdin
@@commanderwolffeex Wait wait wati... you didnt like the live action remake?? what did you not like about it? i admit, i didnt love how Jasmine was (so girl-powery, and just feminist and slightly obnoxious) but i thought pretty much everything else was spot on. I actually loved Will Smith as the genie, and Aladdin was just perfect. i loved the costumes and the sets, and also... i mean jafar was perfect for that role! 😏 To be fair, i didn't really grow up with the old one, so i can understand if you have like nostalgia about the old one, but i think it's one of the best live action remakes (after cinderella of course 😁) sorry for the rant!! 🙃🤦♀
The original looks a lot more like traditional Indian clothing, I love all the jewellery in it. The edited image didn't remind me of India at all! Would've maybe kept the hair, though, it looks good when it's down.
@@lilachodan4941 I think they are talking about the actual dress not the tail . She only had two dresses and they pretty much were the same dress just different colors
I actually like Cinderella's and Jasmine's costumes. Cinderella has the most beautiful dress in a disney remake. I totally agree with you on Belle's dress. It's so bad. I love the one you designed for her
Thank you for fixing Cinderella's look. I always thought that the lack of accessories made the focus be on the dress and not on Cinderella herself. That was a problem.
Piss yellow 😂😭 stawwwp yes it's not golden but that is still a very important and lovely shade of yellow okayyyy?! (Coming from a person that wouldn't be caught dead in or by yellow-only maybe the muted pastel ones maaaybe, but this is a slight joke too)
☺️ Our leading ladies definitely deserved higher quality fabrics and classy shades given the budgets of their films. Your ideas are true to the heart of each Disney fairytale while reaching the sophisticated standards of the real world.
Controversial opinion, but I adore Cinderella's and Jasmine's live action gowns. I haven't seen the 2nd movie but Aurora's costume in the first movie made sense to me. She had no idea she was royalty, she was raised as a poor commoner in the woods so it makes sense to me that her clothing doesn't look as lavish and expensive.
Belle's gown: 💕 Jasmine's outfit: ❤ I'm a sucker for gauze. Ariel's looks and outfits: Yessss ❤ Mulan: Nice, nice. That movie disappointed me overall. Cinderella's gown: Not a bad alternative Snow White: I'm praying for you Ms Zegler. First she had to deal with Snow and now this.
Hmm, it's funny how your designs depart more from the source material and yet capture the essence of the characters far better than the cheapish designs we actually got in the live-action films.
I love that specific shade of red you chose for Ariel. It immediately strikes as something ad familiar and ‘out of place’, yet still good enough to look natural a bit more.
The moment I saw Cinderellas dress in 2015, I knew Belles dress was going to be changed. Cinderellas dress is the exact same silhouette as Belles animated gown. While everyone was cheering, I was crying because I knew that Belles dress was the best Disney princess gown. I didnt think Disney had the imagination to pull off something better in live action. And I was right.
As a merman (someone who’s in the Mermaid community) and long time Little Mermaid fan sense I was born I actually loved that they made Ariel’s top apart of her body. It slightly makes her more fishy especially with the added faint scales they put on her shoulders and arms. Sometimes sea shell tops in real life can look either bulky or very funny looking and it’s hard for me to take seriously. They should have just went with the original prototype top design because it makes her look even more like a mermaid and it is creative how it’s done (almost like her nipples are scales that fade into her body). I hope that makes sense, if you seen the screen test I think you know what I mean. But yeah I agree with everything else about Ariel!
I loved Halle as Ariel, yet, you're right. I don't understand why they decided to take away all those details that made Ariel be Ariel. I would love her to see her with red hair, and keep the colors of the tail and bra.
It was the actresses' choice though. The one for Belle (Emma Watson) complained about the original dress and in subsequent films the actress playing the princess was given control over her costuming. For Ariel, that included the dull brown dreadlocks, the pink head band and both the dresses.
The little mermaid is a Danish story it’s one thing if they did a retelling like the classic story the frog prince/princess story like princess and the frog but no they just race swap the character how unoriginal and you can only do so much with dreadlocks
@@kirayoungblood Those were a bad choice in general. The live action movie has alot of issues, the leading actress being a one of them. She's not good at acting and her singing is not Ariel (She butchered Part of that world). She can't even emote when she has no voice. There's plenty of other issues (story, lore, music, the CGI, and most of the other actors), but they really needed to find another actress to be Ariel. At least one who wanted to become the character
@@kirayoungbloodthis isn't the "danish" story. since when does denmark have jamaican singing crabs, a tropical caribbean themed setting, or calypso music?
@@kirayoungblood You’re full of shit. The story of The Little Mermaid has absolutely nothing to do with Denmark or Danish culture. Even the animated movie took place in either a fantasy world or just an unspecified corner of the world. Ariel’s story had nothing to do with being white. You’re just looking for an excuse to be mad. Take your racist BS elsewhere.
Oh my gosh i love cinderellas dress! I never really got the hype behind the one in the movie, it always seemed a bit off. I think the softer blue fits Lily James so much better and the gloves, necklace, and updo make it look way more complete!
i just wanna say smthn about the jasmine costume, the live action actually does a half better job than the animation, of course jasmin's costume in the animation is the worst representation of what arab princesses wore, it looks more like what the slaves wore, the live action did a better job at atpeast giving her jewellery and details which is accurate to that time had she been a slave rather than a princess, i'm sorry yours isn't very accurate either but it's ok cuz even we as arabs tend to make our own culture more aesthetic than it actually was, i personally couldn't careless as long as it's enjoyable to watch but i should make it more known
Isn't that the point? That Jasmine was basically a slave to the patriarchy and a prisoner in her own home? She's forced to wear that outfit to show off her beauty to her suitors and is expected to be nothing but a trophy wife. That's why she hates being a princess. Also, none of the princesses have ever worn authentic apparels. They're meant to be reflect the beauty standards of the time their movies came out. Crop top popularity peaked in the early 90's, that's why Jasmine wears one.
I know I'm in the minority but I truly felt that Halle did have the Ariel vibe, petite and hour glass with a cute innocent face and beautiful voice, I truly think she was the perfect choice and your redesigns show that they just let her down with styling
Trust me, you’re not nearly as much in the minority as you think you are. The internet is just chock-full of racist trolls who want to find excuses to be mad. There are plenty of people out here who see Halle’s merit and how well the role suits her. ❤
Halle was the perfect choice to be Ariel. Yet, Rob Marshall's decisions were totally wrong in certain aspects. He had to keep the red hair in her and the colors of the tail and the bra.
@@sethzarandona2325 Please stop that nonsense. No one cares about the fact that Ariel was black. It's the reasoning behind her casting that irritates people. Disney is a heartless corporation now that only cares about money. It's no longer actually about making a good movie and making kids happy it's all about the cash. Because of woke culture, minority representation in a movie = CASH. Don't you get it? Disney didn't actually want Halle for her talent. They ONLY wanted her for her black skin because they knew that a black Ariel would appeal to black audiences thus boosting sales. They used her for a cash grab and they used her as a SHIELD. Because that right there, what you're doing is exactly what they knew would happen. Everyone is always accused of being racist or prejudiced in some other way just because they disagree with something or don't like it, if it happens to have a minority or other oppressed type of person involved. We aren't allowed to say one bad word about this movie without people like YOU calling us a racist. Even if our criticism are about other things in the movie that have nothing to do with Halle (like Prince Eric's autotune singing and the terrible dark dreary look of the film) you still insist that we're racist and just hate Halle. More importantly, we aren't allowed to criticize Disney for doing that to Halle because they "gave us what we wanted". They gave us a black princess to admire and look up to so we're not allowed to criticize them or anything they do ever again (Even though they literally already did that 15 years ago with Princess Tiana. A hardworking black woman who is family, career and goal oriented and takes care of herself. All little black girls were inspired greatly by her). Don't be disrespectful and just throw the word racist around for no legitimate reason just because Disney has got you fooled.
She wasn't, there are hundreds of girls who would fit the vibe, but for some reason they chose one that looks NOTHING like ariel. Neither is the same ethnicity.... Yikes
I once saw a guest dressed up at disney for the Halloween party, and she was wearing the live action Cinderella dress, but with the hair and accessories of the animation and it was BEAUTIFUL
These are actually really well done and I love the commentary. It's constructive and you praise the things that were good while giving good reason as to why the bad things are bad. Really wish they'd given Belle a fancier dress.
Your redesigns for Snow White ans Belle are glorious! Mulan and Belle's changes aren't severe to the point where I needed a redesign, and I love Cinderella as-is (they avoided being a literal remake, so that helped). Not crazy about Ariel's redesigns, but they're much better than what we got, and obviously the skinbearing on Jasmine (and Aladdin) are something I'm glad the remake avoided, given the critiques Jasmine has received as being sexualized and Aladdin was confirmed to be sexualized for the female audience (which reads bad to me since his story could be a metaphor for maturing, and being sexualized isn't the best thing to include in that, imo).
I think Ariel's sisters had a bit of the right idea in their mermaid forms. Their tops and tails look like they were scales that's part of their skin. This gives the perfect excuse to not use she'll bikini. It's actually a bit odd why she's the odd one out in that type of design.
Ariel in her pink dress!! Wow I didn't expect to CRY with nostalgic little-girl princess longing at this one. I catch myself watching vaguely grumpy takes on "modern Disney" here and there, and usually just share the vague grumpiness without getting worked up about it all. But... Seeing Ariel in her gorgeous PINK princess dress, I just shocked myself by bursting into tears! I didn't know how much I needed to see that "Princess Moment." Sincere thanks from a red haired lady who was 10 years old in 1989. ♡
IDK BUT SHE DOES LOOK LIKE LOLA FROM SHARK TALE Even better he character is literally Ariel THE MERMAID. (Compliment because Lola is an icon and she's gorgeous 😭💖)
Susan Egan's gold/white ballroom and gold/red rose finale dresses in Beauty and the Beast on Broadway are the best Belle dresses ever made and I will die on this hill.
I could've agreed more! Belle is so GORGEOUS! Belle's dress is my most favorite of them all since I was child. So when Emma Watson was casted I felt so excited but then I got SO DISAPPOINTED AND ALWAYS RANTING ABOUT HER DRESS! I don't care if they tried to be realistic atleassstttt do the iconic dresses right! Its FANTASY!
The original design was done on purpose. First of all, they followed the concept art from the 1950 version. Ella didn't wear her hair up, wear gloves or jewellery because the designer wanted her to stand out from all the other women who were dressed that way. Every detail was done on purpose and for a reason.
I've always imagined Aurora's hair to be a little bit like Elle Woods; fluffy, thick, largely rounded at the ends, golden/white blonde hair that bounces and almost floats on its own. BUT, you did an amazing job redesigning everything. I wish disney would pick up their slack. I refuse to spend any more money on them and their new stuff. Bring old disney back :(
I love the Snow White redesign colors but I still think the paned sleeve should’ve been kept. It was a common trend for the upper nobility and royalty to show off all that extra fabric in rich colors and perfect for her station since she was technically on an outing as princess and had to have the proper sumptuary.
Live action Ariel not getting the animated film's pink dress is a crime. The pink looked kind of bad on 2D Ariel with the rest of her palette but it fits really well on a darker skin tone.
They truly did set up Halle for failure. I might be in the minority on this, but I found casting her as Ariel to be pretty racist… it’s as if Disney only cast her as Ariel in order to get brownie points for inclusivity. They could’ve maybe made a new story about a black mermaid. Why’d she have to be Ariel and retell the story we already knew? And those outfits and her muted hair… that movie lacked so much sadly. I also adore your new Belle design!!! The gold color along with the roses is just beautiful. Really shows what that dress was lacking
While some of the costumes are better in the various movies than others, I do agree that Cinderella set the bar high in terms of all the costumes in that movie being pure, extravagant fancy and that the other live action movies have struggled to get to that point.
I disagree on the Snow White one. Her design being bright and colorful makes it unique, it looks like they are trying to replicate the cartoon in a real sense, as opposed to changing it, muting it and going for realism. While I think maybe the textures can be improved, I think the style and color work better than you’re version. Also I think Cinderella has the best gown, but I think not giving her a full updo works better to symbolize her freedom on that night, not being bound, being able to let her hair down after being subjugated by her family. Idk.
I don’t find Aurora’s kirtle boring 😭😭 it’s nice and pretty close to the clothes of the era I would keep the kirtle and just make a few alterations to make it a bit more royal
I like Ariel’s looks in the movie but I do think it’s weird Vanessa has maybe 3 minutes of screen time and more variety to her outfits than Ariel gets- and no big I am a human glittery dress? I agree that Belle’s dress is the biggest offender but it’s tricky to picture just right because I feel the film does a lot wrong like mishandling the visual of Belle and beast as the only characters in blue and her colour palettes warming as she warms to the beast. Something that was great visual story telling in the cartoon the live action just dropped entirely- like that’s WHY her dress is gold why she wore green and pink before then. But in the live action you can tell they didn’t apply that level of thought it was just hey she wore yellow in the cartoon so let’s make a yellow dress here. And I could almost forgive it being simple lacking structure and volume and being the most basic outfit of the whole movie… could have genuinely been fine with it IF they didn’t add the terrible glitter details on that look like glue and glitter for a kids project.
As you said, I'll never get over how dirty disney did Halle Bailey in the little mermaid. She already had a whole hate campaign because she's black and disney only fueled it. Her hair should have been vibrant red, not mousy brown. I understand they didn't want a super vibrant hue, but the color is so muted. Red hair would have given people one less reason to hate Halle as Ariel and see that a black actress can play a traditionally white character. It's better not to speak about the lack of gorgeous outfits in the movie. The fan arts are so much better than what we got to see in the movie. It's a shame because Halle would have been perfect in those dresses. The original Ariel hasn't any hairstyles, her hair is always loose, but it would have been nice to see different hairstyles on Halle, to play with her locks
I thought Jasmine's outfits in the remake were actually great. Way better than what this person made, at least. Back then they didn't exactly have pastel color palettes, everything _was_ extremely vibrant and colorful and since certain dyes were expensive, having vibrant colors were also a sign of wealth and status. Jasmine absolutely _should_ be wearing vibrant colors with many small details and embroidery to show the fact that she is a princess! And she would likely _not_ be showing any skin or wear pants *which is why Disney changed it for the live action.* They were actually _trying_ to be historically and culturally accurate!! And yet her outfit still definitely feels like Jasmine.
I'm guessing is they made these gowns look less flamboyant is because they had to make it easy to mass produce for.... you know. princess outfits in disneyland
The Ariel designs are absolutely beautiful. Such a shame that they made her color palette so dull in the final film. Even early concept art and screen tests showed her with a more vibrant orangeish red hair color, not the ginger-blondeish brown they gave her final look. Halle deserved that striking Disney princess look.
i love elle, but she is so not what I pictured in my mind growing up seeing the sharp sweeping lines of aurora's features; especially after learning that she was largely inspired by audrey hepburn's features.
How about Abigail Cowen as Ariel? She was perfect and she sings... they raceswap her on purpose they eve changed her now and the trailer haves more dislikes than likes.. just create new charactes
Today I went to Disneyland. I saw so many people dress as Snow White and everyone look way better than the official live action. Their dresses are all darker and less vibrant. They feel like those old fairytale designs.
In defense of the live action Mulan (and I haven't seen it nor do I plan to; I gave up on these after Aladdin), I know what they were going for, but Western audiences do not understand it. Okay, so I saw the preview and immediately understood the reference because I LOVE Chinese fantasy dramas about gods and goddesses and spirits. THAT is what they did. They literally changed the character to be more like those goddess or spirit characters. One of my favorite Chinese fantasy dramas is "Eternal Love" (aka "Ten Miles of Peach Blossoms"). They did a movie version, which is shorter by...hours, and they did a TV "mini"series (their miniseries are very long, this one is 43.5 hours long). The main character is a Nine-Tailed Fox Spirit. It's common in these dramas to do those acrobatic aerial movements and fights. They also are gods/goddesses/spirits and don't always wear armor. That's why they did that. The problem is...most Americans do not watch those shows (they should, they are AWESOME). I doubt most Europeans watch them. So, Western countries don't know those tropes. That's why the costumes were that way as well as the movements. I think it was ridiculous to change the character since she is human, but Disney was sucking up to China. That movie was trying to appeal to Chinese audiences and failed since they also didn't like the changes. Mulan is not a goddess in China. Put aside the fact that most Chinese people are atheists, she's not in their mythology as a goddess or a spirit. Rant over. Look up the "Eternal Love" drama if you have several days to kill! It's not dubbed, but you can find it with subtitles. It is worth the 43.5 hours! It's an amazing story that is woven so well. Or watch the movie version.
The snow white dress is the only thing that movie had going for it. It looks like looked at a historically accurate disney princess video or cosplay and did a half @ss job which is better than most. Also with the Belle dress it's better but the Broadway production gives her the rococo style Also Cinderella's dress is silver. It's that most scene she's in the dress it's at night so darker lighting The dress turned blue when the disney princess brand was starting up.
- Belle’s redesign outfit is 100x better and looks pretty accurate to the original design in the cartoon. What r the things at the bottom of the dress tho? I was thinking they’re gold roses. Also is it just me or does the Belle in the redesign picture look like Kristen Stewart in Twilight (ik it’s Emma Watson)? - I actually liked Jasmine’s live action outfit, but I agree the skin-colored fabric on the stomach is stupid. - I don’t understand why they didn’t give Ariel red hair in the live action remake, the brown hair is so boring and it blends with her skin too much. The red hair looks so much more vibrant and mermaid-like. I never saw the movie so I’m surprised to find out they never gave her a Disney Princess dress moment. - I don’t really like the Mulan redesign but I agree she should’ve kept the armor on cuz it’s more realistic. - Cinderella’s live action dress was absolutely beautiful, but I agree it looks better in light blue. Her hair looks better up as well, and the outfit looks better with accessories. - I never saw Snow White’s live action outfit, and EWW IT’S SO GROSS. 🤢 The colors r so awful, the bottom of the dress looks like a banana. Her redesign is beautiful and looks more like the cartoon design. - I love Sleeping Beauty in pink, that’s her classic look and how most ppl know her, so I love the redesign. I like her hair more with bangs as well. Sleeping Beauty (Aurora) was my favorite princess as a child bc my fave color is pink and I love sleeping in late.
This! All of this! (Yes, even the Mulan costume) “how the mighty have fallen” is right. My finest compliment to you… except for Aurora’s. Make it blue!
While I didn’t have an issue with most of the outfits (I did with Ariel’s a little bit but I overlooked because I was more concerned about the storyline) I LOVE your redesigns. VERY exquisite!
I’m quite agreed almost with all you said, so true ! but I’m sorry but Jasmine outfits in the movie are gorgeous. More reminiscent of Bollywood, (Indian movie industry based in Mumbai) yes, but gorgeous. If it was more accurate, they would be more Chinese (cause the original tale is said to be set in China) or according to the essence from many adaptations - cause added after in the Book of 1001 nights - something more of Persian, or Arabian, a mix of cultures. There is even an Indian version, the magic lamp. So in fact that « Bollywood » inspiration in the live action could be quite accurate. And I don’t think the costumes are cheap or look like Halloween / carnaval costumes. And for Aurora, blue suits her better, the pink is just because of merchandising. In the animated movie, her time on screen is in the blue one. It’s pink only when the fairy decide to change the color. Your idea for Cinderella is just on point, omg ! So beautiful ! I think it would be more cool in a shade of blue even lighter to match more the dress in the animated movie. Something more pearly. It was not so rare to have white ball dresses. And Cinderella would be the only one wearing it in the live action. The other women were dressed in very colorful, even gaudy dresses. She would contrast more. The blue dress, is again, cause of merchandising and cause of view about « aah white is for wedding dresses ». So they chose blue for her because Aurora was pink (if they kept blue for Sleeping Beauty, it would be « two blue princesses » but it’s dumb : Ariel’s merchandising shows her often in her pink dress but a turquoise version like Jasmine’s famous outfit. Two turquoise princesses… anyway..) I just love your version of Snow White ! The one they made for the live action indeed look like a Halloween costume ! (That movie will probably fail anyway…) Your vision is more delicate and elegant. You’re totally right about Mulan, I’ve always imagined her as a « earth kingdom girl » (Avatar the last airbender ref) and green suits her very well. Like you said, she’s dressed in green after all in the animated movie.
Loved all your reworks a lot! I just like the movie Jasmine costume more. I think the blue one was very beautiful. Besides that, you made the Cinderella dress absolutely perfect! And the Snow White one was really good too.
You’ve said if they gave Halle’s Ariel bright red hair, it would be one less thing for people to complain about. Sorry I disagree- no way could they give a black actor caucasian colour (ie red) and not have people complain. Audiences would say it’s forcing a black person to have caucasian hair and that it’s inappropriate. Your Belle redesign is STUNNING. Less “mall”, more “enthrall” ♥️
Do you think you could do a restile on the live action Disney villains? because I still think that Angelina Jolie as maleficent should have had the green skin
Your redesign of Ariel is basically how I imagined it ever since the live action was first announced. Like I was pretty excited for this movie until I saw the teasers, the promos, the ads, the posters….It just ahh broke my heart. The colours were completely muted. The cgi looked questionable at times and my poor girl Ariel was done so dirty that I’m convinced they did it on purpose. They give her cheap ass looking clothings. They gave her brownish braids when they know darn well they could’ve given her a vibrant red that still compliments her skin tone and the worst travesty of all, they didn’t give her her iconic pink dress AND that sparkly dress at the end. I mean come on. I’m sorry for ranting too much but listen, it’s fair 💙.
Omg I LOVE these redesigns 🥹 my favorites were Belle, Mulan, Snow White and Ariel. And the music in the background makes me want to watch a 1940s Disney movie. Thank you, lovely video 💕🌸💐
