Doing that strategy as the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom could be really powerful. I don't know how that event chain works, but you don't need to fight that rebellion to a full victory. You just need a few years of peace to go conquer Egypt and release yourself as a Westernized Arabia with half of China as accepted pops far quicker than you could Westernize as China. Germany or Italy are both significantly worse than they seem; their north/south divides mean you only get half of the country as accepted pops, and half of Germany or Italy is far fewer pops than half of China. The United States has that problem as well, but they also get strong because of immigration, which your capital being in Egypt or Arabia would prevent you from getting. The UK and France would do not have significant splits, so would be good options. Russia doesn't have quite the level of splitting that Germany and Italy do, but the comparatively weak industry of Russia (especially excluding the non-Russian parts of Russia), the logistical challenges of your power-base being split between Egypt and the Russian interior, and the low population density in Russia (requiring more CBs to take your accepted pops) probably make it a worse option than the UK or France. There is actually a reasonable argument that the Ottoman Empire is actually the most powerful option. It is easy to connect up those two territories; that gives you more connected ports, and IIRC is a requirement to core land. Spain also punches above it's weight for similar reasons thanks to the Gibraltar strait crossing. Both also make a bit more sense than most nations from a LARP-y perspective (a political union between Arabs and Turks makes far more sense than with almost any other culture, Spain has crusades/reconquista/reverse-reconquista LARP, and both have far more strategic interest in the Mediterranean Sea than any of the other potentially-optimal nations). EDIT: Apparently accepted cultures transfer too. That makes Italy another potentially-optimal option, makes Germany and Russia far more viable, and makes THK absurdly powerful. Austria-Hungary could be a reasonable option as well.
There is an interesting strategy where playing as Russia you can manipulate factors such that you have an instant CB on russia at all times when you release, have infinite infamy as Arabia (very difficult to explain but through testing i found a way) and Russia is i considerable infamy trouble which the AI cannot handle allowing you to yea go ham on Russia. Imo the most fun one would be India with Russian accepted then releasing a new one with both Chinese accepted but its very jank.
I think doing countries around the Med is best. Spain I think is the best LARP (Restoring the Caliphate??). Turkey is the best practically because of how many cores you get on them, and makes the most sense logically (If Bulgaria wasn't released at the start I would have been able to get Ankara). Italy seems like fun but a very cool youtuber who I referenced in the video already did it :p. Russia is a good pick but I think the infamy required to get into core Russian lands would suck (unless you annexed Ukraine in 2 wars via conquer one state and release from Russia which would be busted) And as far as Taiping Heavenly Kingdom goes... If you'll be a little patient something related to them may be coming in the future ;)

Can you actually make release colorado? I've tried colonizing the land I need as the US and nothing happens. I know its not because of a mod because I did it in vanilla. What am I doing wrong?
@@benisign I am pretty sure straits just act like land connections. For example, as the Netherlands the entire island of Java has Javan cores, except for one single island province which is connected to the rest of Java via a strait. If you release the dynamic colonial tag of that island, it gets the whole island of Java, as well as Sumatra, and if you have conquered Bali all of that other stuff as well, which is all strait connected.
