Huge heap of scrap! And plenty of treasures that are better than scrap! There's a big ol' mess and it needs to get dealt with before I bring anything else home, so today is the day. Big garage scrapping!
Wire stripper I use: amzn.to/3sirg18
The motorized stripper: amzn.to/3y0JMuQ
The wire cutters I like: amzn.to/2T6j3OW
The grips I recommend: amzn.to/2QCJmYl
The melting furnace: amzn.to/3EGxT2q
(If you make a purchase on amazon through the links above, a small amount of what amazon makes on the sale is shared with me. It's a great way to help support my channel, at no additional cost to you. Even if you buy something other than my tool recommendations!)
Please like/share this video if you enjoyed it, and subscribe to thubprint!

Greetings from Margate UK. Recently came back from holiday in Mexico & feeling a little depressed. Catching up on tube subscriptions & you standing on that lump, beating the living daylight out of it...sped up...sounding like a steam train has improved my state of mind. Cheers mate I've watched it over & over & laugh my arse off every time. Keep doing the thing.

Great videos love the content when I was a young kid and couldn’t work legally yet I used to scrap because my father said I had too figure it out , so I collected cans and dumpster dived in all the local businesses on my bike and had over 20 trash bags full of cans and wire he was overwhelmed on How hard I worked doing it and I think he was kinda pissed he had to use his nice Buick lesabre to cash them in This was in the 80s during the crack epidemic and I was finding cans with glass pipes coming out of it and my can collecting days where shut down

Maybe not *forever*, but it’ll likely last far longer than it’s needed! Probably replace some capacitors somewhere down the line but I don’t expect it to see 50k hrs uptime from here on out. Either way it’ll still be kicking long after all our flatscreens give up!

Nice classic gaming t.v. rare find the old consoles work so much better with those the new flat screens over excentuate the pixels
@thubprint
@thubprint 3 месяца назад
Absolutely, there were a number of ways the artists used the crt technology to blend the images or create transparencies that haven’t translated well to modern flatscreens. Not to mention the black levels and neat-instant response on the old tubes! You can get fancy upscalers that include crt filters to mimic the experience in a modern display and they’ve gotten pretty good, but they’re expensive little toys

I just can't believe you wouldn't strip all of those cords, my guy. I do scrapping as well. At my scrap yard, number 2 insulated copper is only worth about 65 cent per pound. But if you strip it down to number 2 copper, it becomes 3.45 a pound. It's very worth your time.

You have my full support if that’s what you choose to do! I’ve done videos detailing my experiments with the best tools at my disposal and recording the time I spent doing it and for me personally, I found that 12ga solid-core wire is where it breaks into time well spent. I’ll strip anything 10ga and up, 12ga can be worth it if done quickly. But as with all these things it’s a matter of preference 👍

@@thubprint Yeah I took a look, I see what you're saying. I have a good amount of free time during the night after my day job to play around in my shop for a few hours before bed, not everyone has that luxury of course. But dangit, Thub, I hate seeing money go away like that. 😂😂 Power to you, though, you're doing great things out there and it's so fun to watch.

Im not a scrapper; I do however recycle. I watch a few of your videos here and there. 7:55 I thought "I dont remember seeing Thub taking buckets of nuts, bolts, screws, etc to the yard." So, do you sort those by metal and take bucket loads at a time? Or do you just ???? They are all pennies. But as with the silver contact video... get a collection - they add up.
@thubprint
@thubprint 2 месяца назад
I do! I used to neglect them back when I didn’t respect steel like I do now, but I always have a steel bucket going and I just pour the nuts and bolts and screws into the bucket. I’ll bring them in when I load up steel from the house, it happens from time to time

Congratulations getting the retro tech TV going. I recently scored a Samsung 20" CRT TV someone happened to be throwing out as I was looking through his kerbside pile. The remote was missing but you can get to the inputs without it. I found I had a spare Samsung remote in my stash of remotes which works. Battery cover is missing (!) but they sit in there pretty snug.

@thubprint
@thubprint 2 месяца назад
My scrapyards don’t want to buy them as-is, but I’ve found if you boil them in a big pot of water to soften them up and pluck the brass ends out with pliers it works out to about $15/hr so they are worth saving up if you want to put the time in. Others have said it’s easy to pull the brass out without boiling them but I’ve always found that to be difficult, painful, and slow

Please do not repair cables in this way, the small plug has sleeves inside that can be pulled out, new cables or new cables and sleeves can be put in
@thubprint

The small plug? You mean the little white plastic one that plugs directly onto the board right? I think I have the tool to release the pins but crimping new pins is pretty difficult without fresh ones on hand
@milesreynolds4943
@milesreynolds4943 3 месяца назад
Even if you re-crimped the pins onto a new cable you'd lose the anchor point. The repair you have done will be sufficient it's not high amperage and like you said its for personal use
