Kinda sad that the biggest Friday the 13th film we’ve gotten in 10 years or so is a movie that can’t even call itself that, even despite it most likely being based on a unused script for a Friday the 13th film with how much it gives off that vibe.
@TheVAULTofHORROR

I liked the ending after it ended. After she begins running (not really a spoiler?) it was clear the director wanted to build tension, playing off PTSD and played that until the very end - everytime I'm thinking oh this is it ... nope. Wonderful at building tension after setting the rules and expectations.

@@BenjaminKurugaExactly! I loved the ending. I appreciated important detail of the strange(r) lady doing everything in her power to keep the final girl from falling asleep and passing away due to blood loss and trauma. I’ve seen a lot of comments on multiple reviews dismissing her efforts as unnecessary rambling, when it was the perfect combo of a realistic rescue + a bit of paranoia in wondering if she also had ulterior motives. Then the final girl’s inability to relax on the pit stop, even though she was finally safe and MILES away from the killer, was such a devastating moment of helplessness. We know that she will forever feel like she’s being followed.
@cgCAMMRN
@cgCAMMRN 23 дня назад
The entire film is shot from the Killer’s Perspective. The camera begins to follow the woman as she is fleeing the woods. When the girl fleeing the woods is entering the pickup truck, something whispers from the forest and her entire demeanor changes. One could argue she was in shock and slipping out of consciousness. However, my interpretation (partly based on the camera following the perspective of the Killer) is that the traumatized girl becomes the killer. The final scene, the girl has blood appear on her cheek. I believe she killed the woman driving her to the hospital. Why? As the stranger in the truck says, “Some animals kill for no particular reason.” I could be completely missing the point, but that is my interpretation. Curious to read your thoughts and criticisms of my take.

It goes to show that everyone wants a new Jason movie. (I mean the last time we saw him was 15 YEARS AGO!) And because the rights have been so messed up, so many filmmakers have made homages, rip-off, parodies or just simply made fan films dedicated to the F13 themselves.

I loved this film. I feel like the director was very inspired by the story telling that is done in open world video games. 3rd person over the shoulder with the story being pieced together by overhearing people you come across or visual storytelling. There is a very cool sense of okay so the legend of Johnny is true in this world, but depending on the character you hear it from there may be some differences in what is believed about the story. Also loved the change of perspective at the end, as it did a lot to create the tension. Whereas when we are following Johnny as the audience you feel safe. You can watch the horror knowing that you are behind the brute, but when he’s no longer in our sight, I was staring at the woods thinking that he is somewhere in this frame, but I can’t see him and that is unsettling. This movie is definitely going in my Halloween rotation every year, but I am also the person who loves The Outwaters, Skinamarink, and every Cronenbergs and Lynch film I can get my hands on. So if you aren’t in to art house it may just not be for you and that’s fine. But we need people pushing the boundaries like this to get new experiences and stuff like this is why I love film.

I'm glad you liked it. But as a big fan of the Friday 13th films, I did not like this movie at all. I appreciate what they tried to do, and the movie did have some cool shots in an artistic sense. But I found the movie incredibly boring, even the kills were somehow anticlimactic. Every charecter was deaf. And acted like they had brain damage, too. It has multiple holes and no story. When i go see a slasher movie, I fully expect it to be stupid. But it's typically a fun stupid. This was just stupid. I walked out at the 1:30min mark. But then again, there are plenty of movies I love, that others think are terrible.

Honestly I really liked it! I would say the only thing I would hate about the film is that it’s not a lot of fun since I love slasher movies that has that fun gory moments! But I think in a violent nature works since it’s something very different, gives me Friday the 13th vibes and is doing its own thing, although it is very slow and I can see why some people may get bored by it, but I love that it is supposed to be serious. And the one kill scene really shocked me! And the only thing I really loved about the whole movie is you get to see the Killer Prospective throughout the entire movie and that’s what I really liked since now I can now see what Jason or Michael or any other slasher does after they kill their next victim!!! Overall I really liked it! I’ll only see the movie again on digital, and also really liked your opinion and videos!

I disagree, I walked out at the 1:30min mark, right after the slasher killed the man trying to distract him. First time in my life I ever walked out of a movie. Even the kills felt anticlimactic. I appreciate what they tried to do with this movie, and i think there where some beautiful shots in an artistic sense. But I did not think they did it well. I don't expect any slasher film to have a well written story. Likewise, I fully expect both the movie, and the survivors in the movie to be stupid. But it's typically a fun stupid. I don't think this movie was so. There was zero story, and mulltiple holes in how the slasher operated.

I wish his senses were highlighted more from his POV. Like the sharpness of his hearing. There were a couple of times when he would be far away from his victims and his hearing seem to put him right next to them especially with his last brutal kill, Jean Jacket Hero. Maybe that’s why the crunching of the grass was so prominent. And to add on to your point about the “teleportation.” That was a missed opportunity to chop down the “boring” parts. It would have been awesome seeing his knowledge of the woods and what shortcuts he would take to get ahead of his victims.

I agree, but one issue I have with the film is that it needs to pick a lane with Johnny. He is described as slow/simple at one point, which is backed up by the scene where he's playing with the car on the keychain. Just saw this last night. I thought it was a very genius way to view the perception of the killer. One thing they did so well was the atmosphere and scenery is beautiful! Something I wish was better was the dialogue from the characters. (the teens more specifically) I think the kills and the vulnerability of Johnny really made this movie stand out to me. One of my favorites this year.

I just saw this today and I'm mixed on this as well. I liked how from Johnny's perspective the nature surroundings and sounds were eerily relaxing. While the sounds from the victims perspective were haunting and unsettling, especially in the third act.

I think one thing that could have enhanced it would have been the audio/sound of the kills. It would have made the kills more impact full. Instead, they seemed dull because the sfx on them were almost muted

It's really slow and deliberate, but the excellent kills definitely reward the viewer and I found the ending monologue sequence extremely tense and interesting.

I enjoyed this 100% because of Behind the Mask! I was completely on board. The fact that they decided to keep it more in a serious tone could definitely make people try to dissect it, too much. There were definitely choices that could have enhanced the experience and kept my interest a bit more. Overall, I was entertained and hope to get a move polished version of something like this in the future. Thanks for another great review, Chris! #GeeSawThat 🤘🏿😁👍🏿

MORE Movies Should do this. its basically a WHAT IF movie. its a film about a killer you get to see the entire time. We need more cinematography like this. Most definitely gonna be a cult favorite movie. Its simple. Probably gonna inspire more new killers and new story's.

I wanted to like this movie so badly...but for many of the reasons you talked about, I just walked out of the theater feeling really disappointed. I could get past the acting and dialogue, I wasn't expecting perfection, but the nature shots and extensive walking were just too much for me. I was fighting sleep at certain points because some of the sequences just overstayed their welcome. The yoga kill was top notch! It unfortunately was not enough for me to redeem the movie, but I respect what they were trying to do. I would like to see another attempt at this type of movie, I think they're on to something here even if, in my personal opinion, it didn't hit the mark.

The only thing I really hated was the 10-15 minute bear story we could of been fine with out it , I enjoyed the movie but it is boring lol , the kills are really good in my opinion, if you only watch horror movies for kills then you shouldn’t be disappointed.

To be honest I liked this movie a lot. Going into it, I already assumed the movie was going to be exactly what it presented, though it was corny at times. Was it boring? To some, sure. That felt like the entire point for this movie. A lot of people hoped for more tension in this movie but we are watching from the killer’s (Johnny) perspective, what tension *really* exists for him? Or any killer for that matter? What else could he be doing? I considered so many aspects from movies this one takes reference from because they’d be doing the exact same thing. The final girl and other supporting characters were typical and added little depth much like many other characters in Friday the 13th , the kills were sick (people even laughed in my theatre), but it was a fun watch. I like how they didn't focus on whether he would do anything (cutting phone lines, popping tires, etc.) and stuck with him just catching up to them and simply *searching for a necklace.* Also, I love that it ended with the unknown for him because we think he's going to reappear but..he doesn’t. The story definitely needed work but with the budget they had, I thought it was a great experimental film and felt like it was making fun of the tropes we’re used to.

I find it hella funny you mentioned Behind The Mask. Because when me & my friend got out for the theater, I was explaining to him how Behind The Mask did a better job at this idea than In a Violent Nature. I respect the film for being the way it is, but maybe in another universe it could’ve been better

Saw this movie yesterday. Was pretty impressed by it. It's not too often we get a horror movie that focuses mainly on the perspective of the killer. Most horror films center themselves on a final girl or a couple of individuals but this film took a different approach that I think a lot of slasher fans really appreciate. Also the use of sound, the camera positioning/movements and the lack of a score give an ominous realness that gave me shivers. Sure, at the end of the day, it's mainly just kids getting killed in the woods but it's a fresh take on kids getting killed in the woods.

A ambitious movie it was a imersive experience for the most part but as a slasher fan this movie bored me all the walking without the kills I wouldn't of made it through I liked it props to the director for what he accomplished with the budget he had this movie would of way better with a bigger budget an could of had the killer so more than walking 7/10 creative,imersive,dull, yoga

I saw this last night! Yes lots of walking in the woods, that didn’t bother me, maybe they could have done more with it. Yes, the dialogue is an all time bad and so are the actors. Some of the props looked bad. Yes, that yoga scene is legendary! I would like to see a sequel, definitely with a better budget. I also enjoy the cinematography.
@littledarkage4182
@littledarkage4182 20 дней назад
i think what would have complimented the walking scenes would have been if the scenery was vaugely recognizable subtly implying he deeply knows the woods, i do like the backstory tho, its very parallel. i think if they removed the characters as tropes and have them be normal people who just want to have fun in the cabins would have really grounded the story
