You make this look so easy! I recently bought a used Squier in an attempt to restore its finish to stock, and upgrade it. It seemed a lot easier to watching you do it. lol. But it’s a great learning experience. I would have never attempted it if I hadn’t been inspired by your channel!

Epoxy filled board part will be unusable you should've used a rose wood slab with a similar grain . Grain part is not that important but the slab part is .
@billyscarbrough
@billyscarbrough Год назад
I would've replaced that part with wood too, but in his defense that part still looks better than it did before and he demonstrates that it is usable on those frets
@SetFire2TheNightSky

How is it "unusable" when he *_CLEARLY_* shows it is???
@peachmelba1000
@peachmelba1000 Год назад
@@SetFire2TheNightSky For the long haul its the wrong repair solution. The fretboard provides a lot of structural strength to the neck. That's why fretboard woods are often made from the hardest possible species of wood. The epoxy has very little tensile strength. You might get away such a fill job if the surface damage was very shallow, but as it stood , the zone of the neck where the patch was poured is at the margin of where the neck naturally flexes under string tension. Epoxy also doesn't flex. This will eventually lead to the neck becoming deformed, either from the epoxy have considerably less strength than the wood, or because it won't flex. By the way, these restorations are fake. He has zero luthery skill, aside from doing the fret leveling.

It's a testament to the quality of the finish that the Matsumoko factory put on their guitars that the red paint came off as easily as it did and that the finish underneath was in such good shape. I bet a kid bought the guitar used, thought it looked like an "old man's guitar" and tried to make it look what he thought was cooler. I got one of these as a 16th birthday present in a darker wood and still have and play it. Beautiful guitars and fantastic restoration (as usual)!

Cool job! Always fun to watch your videos, saving all em sadly beaten guitars. Though this time it was somewhat disappointing, watching you do that poor epoxy muck-up fix of the fretboard. Since it was so bad it would have been better to change the whole fretboard. … Where do you find all em mistreated, bullied guitars?

He's lazy. He doesn't want to learn about guitar repair. If he did, he would have by now. He fakes the majority of the "damage" on these instruments to make it look more extreme, and then reverses that process. Did you see how easily that paint came off? And how perfect the underlying factory lacquer was? The messed up oversprayed red paint, full of scratches, is incongruous with that original finish looking that good. Maybe the guitar had that fretboard damage already (I hope he didn't do that), but the rest is just aesthetic.

Sometimes you choose a guitar and I'm thinking "why even bother??", but this turned out to be a real beauty! I also thought that you were going to glue in a replacement rosewood block into the fretboard. The resin idea caught me by surprise. I personally would have just finished scalloping the fretboard from the 12th on up. Not because I would want a scalloped fretboard, but because it would be the easy way!

Did a great job overall with a monumental blunder of leveling the scrapped fretboard flat ... The fretboard was perfectly ok with the seat for the frets still intact. Personally I would have replaced the entire fretboard instead of going over the mutilated part with epoxy resin as it would eventually break at the fret over time and since guitars get fret maintenance depending on the general use of the instrument, it would have been an ongoing issue.

I have quite a few Aria Pro ll basses and guitars, mostly from very late 70' to early 90's. 85 Night Warrior is probably my favorite. Both of the zz's 84 bass and guitar. A couple of the RS basses, 2 singles pups and one Single Humbucker. 88 RS guitar 2 singles and a coil spliting humbucker in bridge probably a beginner model, not like the Night Warrior. I also have other Japanese made guitars and basses.80 Westbury Standard neck through that came with Dimarzio supper distortions and a 79 Westbury Track II bass. Westones and a few no name Japanese copys from the late 70's. I have both Gibson, Fender and a few Guilds both bass and guitars but in the last 3 years all i have been buying are 70's and 80's Japanese instruments. I dont know why Fender and Gibson did not do many coil splits and most of these Japanese instruments even there cheaper models did. Got you work cut out for you but i bet it will be one hell of a guitar whan done.
