I Fixed EVERYTHING in a City that I Abandoned 2706 Days Ago
Lake Valley is nearly complete - it has sensible land use patterns, a high quality transit, a new bike network, a completely rebuilt airport, a Lake IN a valley, and the topography has been mostly respected. But it still has one issues - 14,000 people have been left homeless after the mayor’s sledge hammer was done swinging.
In today’s episode, we’ll work to rectify this with Transit Oriented Development and enhanced city services. By the end, we’ll meet and perhaps even exceed our 2015 population. Enjoy!

If you were to continue this series of rebuilding old towns/cities can you add in "new" neighborhoods to the mix to see how it can be seen as a growing city when they take a old and rebuild onto it

I grew up being told that you should try to learn from your mistakes. The best part of this series is that I got to learn from your mistakes, and it's been a lot of fun learning. I love the fact that this game is something you share with your kids! We have ours (Mine Craft) and sometimes will go back into our old worlds and see what we built together and in the process see how much better we build and design things now vs. then. Another series like this would be fantastic!! Especially if inspires you to keep turning out more MPM to go with it. (What? You think we don't notice? 😁)

This is a bittersweet moment. It's like reaching the end of a really good book. Even though this city in particular didn't have a storyline for the development process, it had the biggest one outside of the game.

Every time I see you go nuts over the roads' slopes and crazy terrain, I get curious about what you would think about the towns on the Ligurian coast in Italy. Please, look them up (I guess Genova in particular, since it also has a nightmarish road layout!)

The Ligurian coast is absolutely beautiful and Genoa was a fun city to look at with terrain view on. This is the kind of city that is basically impossible to build in CS without a TON of patience! I hope CS:2 is better about this! The costal highway is also a bit of a shame, but I understand why it's there, based on terrain, uses, and population of the city.
@IlyTheVampire
@IlyTheVampire Год назад
@@melinaalba63 Yup, the roads here are... interesting. There is a culinary specialty that's basically only done in a specific area not far from where I live, and if you want to eat it you have endure roads that are incredibly steep, with tons of narrow switchbacks and often so thin that they don't even look like a 2 way road.
@melinaalba63

@@CityPlannerPlays I feel like these "imperfections" are what makes italy such a beautiful country to many people. The houses are old, especially in the south quite brittle, because of the sea etc. The streets are tiny and inefficient,... but it's just so charming

It's unbelievable how far you've come over the years. You make it look so easy lol. I'm relatively new to pc gaming and especially new to playing this game, just over a week. I hope some day I may get to learn 10% of all the tricks and shot cuts you know. This is the 1st game since the 80's where I'm trying to use keyboard and mouse lmao. My 1st city was going really well. Got to 45k residents with 85% traffic, Then I started to lose money and pop, everyone getting Ill. Realised it was pollution because of my garbage collectors being too close to other buildings, fixed that and now my traffic is down to 50% for some reason. I have a lot to learn......... Keep up the great work love watching to work/play

Regardless of if you go back to this city or not, it should be mentioned that at the moment until stated otherwise the city quay with trees should be avoided. Since it was added it was discovered that using them for whatever reason breaks network pathing for public transit for both the vehicles and the pedestrians in your city. At the time of sending this comment they have not patched the game to fix this issue.

I think this was a very interesting series and there's potential for a similar but different idea. Cities change over time and I think it could be really cool to set out a believable circa 1920s city, then transition it into a 1960s version of itself then a 1990s version then a modern version. Would be a really cool project I think to explore the history of city planning.. maybe too ambitious?

I've found this entire mini series a great reminder of much we change over time. You can clearly see how much you've improved since you'd originally created this save till now and the difference is simply night and day in comparison. With regards to your series, I think you shouldn't start any new ones and simply keep working on the old cities for now as soon you'll probably move onto Cities Skylines 2 and you can start new cities then and wrap up the old cities. :D

An easy alternative to demolishing buildings at the wrong street height when you change the rise of the road: Highlight all buildings with MoveIt! and set all buildings to be at terrain level; this lowers or raises all selected buildings to the correct level of the road. I love all of your series and will watch any of them. I adore seeing your old cities be revamped and improved (gives a sort of feeling that things can get better), and I love seeing your planning brain at work building new cities. I get that mods create a pain when it comes to things like District Themes going haywire after an update, so I think it's a nice balance you have of vanilla, modded, and old throwbacks. You'll have me in the audience regardless!

I enjoyed this little series immensely, I'd love to see more city overhauls! One thing I've been meaning to mention is that during the city tours; the very rapid transitions have a flickering effect that is uncomfortable on the eyes. That, and it makes it more difficult to see details because the images are switching back and forth so much.

Rebuilding old builds is quite interesting to watch, as lots of things you fixed are similar to problems many people have with existing projects. I think another interesting topic would be to develop an existing city like a real redevelopment would happen - when you can't move buildings, delete entire neighbourhoods and move mountains, but rather stick to the same tools actually used in real world city redevelopment. Can't move a skyscraper or change entire road network, but can carve into hills and demolish houses to increase dencity.

I love this series and would love to see more, however I'd love to see you be more thorough with fixing slopes and such. I enjoy you being so particular about it!! It makes it more fun and it's where your personality shines through. I do enjoy speed builds/rebuilds, but I also enjoy the slow, monotonous stuff (that you also seem to enjoy). Also, i can't wait for C:S2, to learn with everyone and to just have an easier time building without needing as much mods and such. 🎉🎉 I've been watching you since you basically began and watch every video you make, so I'm excited to see what you create in C:s2! All that being said, I really enjoy you as a person and you bring so much to the city building community (in real life and in gaming). Thanks for everything you do!!

31:40 If you space out your service buildings, you can make a bootleg electrical line across underdeveloped areas. Sometimes, it's either that or those unforgivable electric poles. Thanks to spacing out the services, you can even fit some nature in between via rocks or trees that would normally choke out an industrial park. A small lake with just a few persistent buildings around can look rather dashing. Just a thought.

I loved this series! A couple months ago, Biffa made a miniseries where he completed a scenario in someone’s Africa-themed city. I think it would be really cool if you made your other fixable cities into challenges/scenarios with different goals (e.g., transit ridership, traffic percentage, bicycle riders (if that can even be counted)). I think scenario content in general would be really fun to watch, especially as we wait for CS2 and VB hitting the node limit!

It was a nice revelation to find out that even the Mighty Phil didn't know where the roads went when he first started playing Cities Skylines. I bet he made a bunch of cities, went to actual school for city planning, and had that 'D'OH!" moment where he learned that OF COURSE they go under the roads, where the heck did I think they were if they weren't under the darned roads? Talk about a character arc, yeah?

Also, while it's too late to help Lakevalley with this one, don't forget about the Eco-Friendly Incinerator Plant from the Heart of Korea CCP. No pollution, noise isn't too bad, and it processes a decent amount of garbage while producing some electricity. Plus it is a fairly attractive building IMO, so minimal effort to hide it is required. Granted, the IRL NIMBY factor of these is quite high, but mostly because citizens do not understand the process the waste goes through and that the only thing being released back into the environment is non-toxic water vapor.

I loved hearing about your daughter being a part of your gaming journey! Also, I’d love to see you build on the vanilla map “Islands.”

Been a silent watcher for a LONG time. Loved this series quite a bit from some others. Sad it’s ended so quickly, but thanks for coming back to it! 😢

I haven't been into your very technical content like road and junctions building (maybe mainly because i don't actively play the game), but i really i enjoyed that series, been looking forward to every single episode. I think it's a great format that deserves continuation. Keep it up!

Love this series and would like to see more of this city or more past builds renewed. One thing I would've added with this city is a toll to enter the beach area and added an additional beach on the other side of the loop.

As much as I love your other modded and vanilla series, please don't stop those, there's just something compelling about seeing you redevelop an existing city! I'd vote for another mini-series like this one!

you Should look at the wind map and check where the winds are blowing at the airport, pilots prefer (because it's easier to land & take-off) to have the runways to be parallel to the wind.

Would absolutely love another series like this! Would also be interested in a series where you build a new city on the same map with everything you know now to see how the end product differs!

You mentioned wanting to get rid of generic zoned industrial. Using the loading screen mod, it's possible to tell the game not to load certain assets. If you get a list of the asset names (I found it online somewhere), you can tell the game to not load the buildings. Saves on RAM and means you'll never have those buildings show up in your city again. Edit: I would like to see more of this, it's very entertaining.

I think I want to see more old builds revisited, but I think I would like even more if you started a new city with mods doing this map right from the beginning. Lake Valley was such a cluster!@#$ that now that you have shown us how to fix the awful, it would be interesting to see how you would just not do the awful to begin with.

I discovered your channel at the beginning of the week with the CS2 video incorporating at least 8 Mods and YT recommended this series to me. I just watched everything yesterday (including the live) and I assure you, you saved my week! And today I was presented with the series finale. Little things I didn't agree with how you did it, but the end result was amazing. Congratulations on your work, now I will always be following you. Now, I'm going to start the Verde Beach series and maybe play some CS again, I stopped a long time ago but the CS2 hype hit hard. A hug from Brazil!

I usually don’t comment on videos, but I got to say that I love this series!! I started playing cities skylines back ik 2018 and then cut off after a few months. This series really made me love the game again and also learn a LOT more about it. Would definitely love to see something similar in the future! PS: I pretty much binged thus whole series 😅

Coming back to old projects and improving them is always a lot of fun, also, those hills around 13:00 were crazy lol, I love hilly cities, hopefully CS2 makes building on hillsides better, especially looks wise, me being in PA, I like to take some inspiration from around here, I've always wanted to make small hillside coal towns, but it's not exactly perfect in vanilla lol

Loved this so much! Continuing to comment though that i dislike the newer city tour wiyh music synced cuts- its very jumpy and difficult to watch so ive had to start skipping what was my favourite part of videos! Miss the chill street level shots and would like some side by sides instead for comparisions!

I kinda miss the communities in the mountains, I thougt it was part of the charm of the idea for this series to retain the ideas from the old work but improve it. I think it would have been neat if you had added some low-density pockets up there where the fat-cats of the city could enjoy building mansions and watching the view of the city.
