No, she isn't. The models in the game itself aren't accurate. Check Bowser and Olimar for an example of this, considering Olimar is supposed to be smaller than a quarter and Bowser is supposed to be almost 8 feet tall.
THANK YOU!!! I've been saying that to myself for years, but it's so refreshing to see someone else agrees that Fusion painted a way better picture of Adam than the one we got in Other M!
I honest to god thought Anthony was Adam when the first trailers came out, and I was a bit surprised they made Adam black, but hey, he seems like a cool dude, and his personality fit with what Samus told the audience in Fusion, so whatever, you know? _Oh, how I wish I was right._
They should have gone in the fusion's way. It should have started with Samus taking orders, but when we reach a mid point, Samus stops caring about the orders and does what she does best. Saving the galaxy. (At least, in my opinion)
@@flareonblaze3628 Samus should have stopped taking orders as soon as she was made to go into lava land without the varia suit turned on. Technically way before that, and not have been made into a motherly stereotype. Seriously, the game abbreviates as "MOM" she's on the "Bottle Ship", and constantly worrying about "The Baby", while not having the emotional stability someone with her history would have from years of getting battle hardened to be like "how many times do I have to teach you this lesson Ridley! time to burn again!" She doesn't bat an eye at Ridley in Fusion, and Super shows that even if she does have some small bit of panic, it's quickly snuffed out by her instinct to kill Ridley. Needed to rant a bit about some of why I dispise Other M so much.
@@AkariEnderwolf my reason for hating Other M is simple: it's wasted potential and it hurting Fusion (my first/fav.). Like just make this either a prequel so Samus getting stunned by seeing Ridley makes sense (just like in the manga.) Or give Ridley a new form so Samus gets paralyzed by the shock. Or better, put Ridley at the end of the tutorial. Make him attack her until she faints and when she faints, Ridley starts slamming her to the ground. The Varia Suit starts cracking. Glass starts shattering everywhere making us see why she doesn't have the tanks. After she gets beaten, an easy escape scene starts and Samus walks slower since her Varia Suit is broken, it doesn't let her survive in extreme temperatures and the bulk of the armor slows her down. About the worst part: Adam. First, how can one ice beam destroy Varia Suit? And why can't an ice missile destroy it in ANY OTHER GAME? Second, what is "you don't move unless I say so, you don't fire until I say so." She isn't your dog. She is the best bounty hunter in the galaxy. She can literally send you to next month in 3 ways (power bomb, shine spark, super missiles). Respect her a little, she is an expert. Stop acting like a baby and understand who you are talking to. I swear I don't understand anything about Adam's actions. This person which you are in front of destroyed the whole pirate base. Twice. The same pirate base you couldn't put a dent in. If this girl wanted to, she could have destroyed your main base. We know, because she already did something similar in Fusion. You are lucky she respects you. She destroyed Zebes a whole planet. What did you destroy, Metroid fans' hopes? Oh and don't get me started on the damage you did to Fusion. It was already a divisive game. You devalued one of the best parts in the game. The ending. Nobody can make me believe this guy asked her "what is troubling you, my lady?" And thanks to Fusion's divisivenes mixed with Other M's trash, people who may like the game didn't try it thinking it is just a 2d Other M. Sorry for the rant. I'm kind of a blabbermouth. But I don't get to talk about this often.
Pretty much, if they wanted to keep the whole being part of the training thing in the past, sure maybe samus has respect for Adam but is not submissive to him and wont put up with his bullshit for any reason
Metroid fans expected to keep all of their upgrades from the start? I get that a strong wahman like Samus could easily kill every Galactic Federation soldier on the Bottle Ship, but after playing the game, you discover that Samus follows Adam's order out of respect and admiration, not intimidation. Their relationship is very important to her.
@@ItsMcDude I mean that's good and all, but when someone you respect tells you not to use the Varia function until halfway through the volcano level, you disobey that shit to save yourself. There's respect and admiration, and then there's just being plain stupid
Samus is the kind of person who does what she wants, to the point where even the higher ups are afraid to stop her. We’re just lucky that what she wants just so happens to coincide with what is ultimately best for humanity’s continued survival.
"Alright, now you're gonna act like a big boy, and shut the fuck up while mommy cleans up the trash you couldn't." The Samus we need, the Samus the galaxy needs.
you'd have to rewrite the entire game. it would cost alot. i hate the gameplay of other m to death as well so you'll have to mind control me to have me touch anything like it again.
I personally disliked how the story is a lamer copy of Metroid Fusion, the gameplay wasn't that bad for me, maybe a bit too hand-holding and the first person mode could've used help.
Well, when Adam goes missing, she finally shows some level of defiance in activating the Screw Attack and Space Jump on her own and asking Adam sarcastically if he has any objectives. Given the Screw Attack name, some interpret this as Samus waving a metaphorical middle finger towards Adam.
Samus: Adam... you were my commanding officer. "WERE!" I'm freelance now, so do yourself and me a favour, and don't order me around like I'm still one of your soldiers. I will help you, but I think can make my own decisions... thanks Samus telling it straight up!
Technically, she was trespassing on Galactic Federation territory without permission. Couldn't the Federation bring her up on charges if she just does whatever she wants? She may be free lanced but she still accepts jobs from the Federation, pissing them off by interfering with a mission without authorization seems like it'd be a stupid thing to do. Samus may come off as very whiny in Other M, but being forced to accept orders from the commanding officer on scene is probably the most believable thing about it since, if Samus did anything stupid and jeopardized their reason for being there, Adam's the one who gets his head on the chopping block for it.
@@Fredderick715 Given that Samus gets her jobs from them, and they're the defacto military of the universe, Samus can't afford to have that attitude. :D
Did you know that Samus shrank FOURTEEN INCHES in other m? From 6'3" to 5'1". Did you also know that the average height of a Japanese woman is 5'2"? This isn't incompetence, this was intentional.
A lot of problems US gamers had with Other M comes from Japanese interpretations of terms like 'bounty hunter' being different. Kinda stupid considering Metroid doesn't sell for shit in Japan.
This is great. It's not the extreme opposite of Other M in the fashion of "I don' need no mang." Instead it takes a badass but comedic tone for Samus. Very much approval.
I feel bad for him, he wanted to try to give Samus depth but did not know how.. he was directing the English VAs without much knowledge of English.. he wanted to keep it accessible via the control scheme and didn't budge on it... he never thought to try to be like "yo this takes place at *insert spot on timeline*" to better prep players for the Ridley stuff.. like there are hints of something good there but it fell flat because Sakamoto did not let anyone have any significant input
Aran Smeallie the one thing you cannot actually say other M messed up was Samus' character. She was just like that in the manga, well, she was also willing to disobey stupid orders too, so...
They also fucked up her physical design, changing her from a tall, imposing muscular warrior to a short, dainty lingerie model who wears heels for absolutely no reason. Her voice actor was also distractingly monotone. Other M dropped the ball in many areas, not just its terrible character writing.
Honestly? What the fuck IS canon when it comes to nintendo? Bowser dies six days a week, the zelda timeline is a joke, and wtf is even going on with Kirby
Honestly, any time I end up hearing/thinking about how good Metroid as a series is, or Samus as a character is, it inevitably has to have the caveat of "we don't talk about other m". And every single time, I think of this animation and come back to watch it, usually several times over. Truly a classic for the ages
This is so awesome, and it is still in-line with Samus' character. Screw that guy. All other Metroid games: "Yay! I found a badass upgrade / gadget!" Other M: "Yay! I finally got permission to use the upgrades / gadgets that I already have!"
We like Samus’s character yes. She gets the job done, and doesn’t get pushed around, and takes down giants animal monster thingys like it’s nothing. Now, Nintendo needs to quit trying to make her a wifu, because that’s a problem.
Making her actively shorter than she usually is was one of SEVERAL things wrong with this trainwreck of a plot. Thank you for rectifying that. Also, I noticed the helmet's visor has a... nose? when she's seen in profile.
I stand by that how we see the SA-X is 100% EXACTLY how other people see Samus. The Space Pirates are just minding their business in their Metroid-breeding base in Phendrana, and then they just hear the horrifying sound of those echoing footsteps as the dreaded hunter walks in and slaughters them all.
Jakupsun Doe yeah they have to protect their IP from a fan game that is not only free and original with its bosses and symbols but also puts in the original Nintendo staff for the original game and even THANKS them. Cuz said fan remake will disrupt their future (chibi Metroid) ideas/projects... and their IP or some shit.... Yes I know you were talking about the video now AM2R.
imagine other m with unique new abilities, suit upgrades, etc. along with starting with all your super metroid abilities. oh don't forget a PROPER GRAVITY SUIT
Photon they didn't even do the standard power suit right they just took the varia and made it yellow it's supposed to have flat shoulders a green mark on the chest and less bulk
Exactly! The whole Varia suit issue in other M made me hate Adam with every fibre of my being! So when he died later in Other m, I simply flipped the double bird at him and smiled as he went into sector zero!
He got what he deserved. And we will never see his face, again. Only his voice?.. text?.. textbox?.. order box?.. navigation?.. I am not sure ... the thing in fusion when you are in a navigation room, you know.
Samus's Varia suit is an power armor after all. And they are ment to be a little taller than the wearer. Also, I love the way Samus's voice is just the background music from Super Metroid. Nostalgia when video game character didn't talk, similar to how Mario was.
I feel like the "Authorization" mechanic could have worked for story reasons, but it wouldn't have applied to *all* of Samus's abilities, just stuff like beams, bombs, while everything else was just malfunctioning due to the Hyper Beam overload and would be restored with Federation tech or boss drops. That way authorizing progressively higher levels of force (in advance of Samus obtaining them in some cases) could be used to show escalating stakes like going from "We're not storming a Space Pirate base here, this is a delicate operation on Federation property and we're not risking unnecessary collateral damage. No bombs, no missiles, and no penetrating beam weaponry without my authorization. Any objections, Lady?" to "Attention all units: we have confirmed this station is under hostile occupation by aggressive lifeforms; I am authorizing use of lethal force. Samus, you are cleared to use your missiles and Charge Beam to engage the enemy" And then maybe something like "The good news is we've discovered this station possesses structural reinforcement well above standard, so you should be clear to employ Super Missiles with no issue. The bad news is there is a high possibility there is something aboard this station that warrants such measures. Structural scans show what may be a containment area not shown on the station's official floorplan; go investigate."
It took five minutes for me to write this comment. That's how long it took me to stop laughing. This is pure joy in seeing Samus act like she should. The one finger closing his visor is just perfect for saying, "I'm in charge here tiny man. *Do not forget that."*
Oh my god, thank you for this animation! This does remind me of how I wish there was an 'alternate cut' for this game's story. One where Samus does a better job at maintaining her bounty hunter badassness, her monologues are not long-winded, has a better reason for her to not use all her upgrades right out of the gate, actually acknowledges her background with the Chozo and the kind of influence she had gained from them, has at least a little more respect from the federation (a la Metroid Prime 3), and doesn't get all bent out of shape and scared by a creature whome she has defeated quite a few times in the past. Whew... I really needed to let that out.
the reason that she doesn't use all her capabilities could be that she knew that the real objective of the federation is to copy Samus technology and next dispose of her. she limits her because she is a pro and doesn't care about this so play along. Maybe the capitan is in charge of this mission but he does the opposite telling her between lines that don't use all she got. them al the things were wrong and he killed himself in the room prepared to kill samus. i don't know. I'm just overthinking.
I love how she has an intimidating presence much like Dark Samus. It’s no wonder those not familiar with Metroid and most people in-universe wouldn’t expect there to be a battle-hardened woman inside of that machine of destruction. I’m pretty sure most people in-universe think she’s a robot or something. Oh well, great animation, you really have more life and personality to both of those characters!
"Adam, as my former CO, I respect you; but there lies the key word, "former. " We operate differently now, and just because I have all this firepower does not mean I'm going to go crazy here. So let's both work on this together, and I'll update you with any findings." If Samus actually used her words.
The only thing that ever made sense to restrict was the power bomb, since it was a 360 sphere of everything melting and dieing, something not as useful during a cooperative mission. Even restricting missiles doesn't make much sense.
I can understand offensive restrictions considering how destructive Samus can be, but mobility or defense restrictions like the grappling hook or varia suit just doesn’t make sense, and even then he should have authorized certain offensive abilities when they were necessary. “Adam there’s a switch behind that glass wall, if I could just use the wave beam now-“ “Nope you’re not authorized.”
@@ninjamaster9094 I've had an idea, which involved the Deleter getting his hands on Rezbit Virus from Aether and making an improved version, which he then uses to infect and almost completely disable Samus's Power Suit. Instead of authorization, Adam uploads patches to reactivate whatever systems he can.
Adam: "Looks like we are gonna have to cooperate in this mission" Samus, who's destroied an evil advanced supercomputer *TWICE* and it's about to do the same with a Metroid Queen: "Haha superbomb go boom"
I remember discovering this all those years ago. At the time I thought: This isn't possible, no way is this possible. No dedicated fan can make this level of detailed animation! And that's why I love this video. Because nowadays, I kinda take it for granted. This felt like the first of its kind.
Purple Dragon, Brain, mutated spider parasite, giant king spider, power hungry clone, parasitic Queen, Brain part 2, AI, and mindless clone You See this is why Samus should be like this
