not new news - the police have had numbers slashed so sadly recovering stolen bikes cannot be a priority to the few in areas of spiralling crime. Blame the government, not the cops who given more resources would love to find the time.
@DEAN yep takes all of 5 min to call up and get your tail light sorted. If you can prove your getting it sorted and can produce said proof then you should be fine unless you think it's okay to drive around with a busted tail light

Well it's fcking unsafe, not only to him but also anyone else on the streets. For example a little child could run to the street because he doesn't see him coming and because the bike is so fast, there's no time to react at all...I don't thinkt he ghost mode is the way to go...

I wonder if it would be possible to "reverse" the situation with number plates. I have a stack of old plates here, ones which have been removed as damaged from bikes over the years, absurdly small ones replaced for MOT etc etc. (Ran a bike repair business for years, every plate we removed we put on the back of the workshop doors as decoration, now the business is gone but I have about 200 plates in a box). I wonder what would happen if a stolen scooter was found with the plate off another bike zip-tied onto it rather than with no plate at all, would they then be able to seize the bike? If you didn't keep attending things where the police are involved I might be tempted to join in, I'm well up for putting a stop to some of these thieves but no way I'm going to have anything to do with pigs.

The big issue is police seem to want these kind of criminal acts to continue since they tend to ignore the scooter gangs and such who commit stabbings and robberies with scooters as their getaway transportation, speculation on my part could be part of a plan to get more funding and maybe enable new laws to get even more power to maybe even eventually ban scooters and motorcycles in specific areas of the city.

The work you do is invaluable to those who have had their bikes stolen by these scum in helmets. You need a team, a group of people who feel passionately about this topic as you do. These scummy gangs only roam around in twos or threes, they don't stand a chance against +10 vigilantes with you leading the pack. I can't ride a bike, only drive, but I'd join you. Well done for the work. My first encounter with one of these bastards was not exactly me but was at a red light in Haringay North London and these guys with a moped just pulled up to a white A1 Audi I was 4 cars behind and they smashed the drivers window took his phone and fled. My advice from seeing that is try and keep a distance so if you have to manoeuvre and go would be a better idea than getting caught off guard and a hammer to the face! Stay safe and ride safe.
