I was so excited when you pulled out the Kaminski bag!!! I just recently discovered this brand as well. I recently found a straw hat by her at my thrift shop. I just sold it yesterday - after just a month - for $60! I paid $2, so that was a great find! I will be on the lookout for her bags now, too! Thanks for sharing your treasures!
Thanks so much for acknowledging the crazy prices at Goodwill & Savers, too. I'm not sure if they're trying to prey on new resellers who don't know they shouldn't be paying so much for certain brands or if they really just think they can sell it all at that price point. It is definitely confusing - why wouldn't they just want to sell it all? It also makes the bins super competitive bc that's where most of us end up when we can't afford the retail locations.
Welcome back to my channel! Today I am thrifting in Manchester, CT! I stop at Savers and Goodwill and I found a couple of great pieces to flip on Poshmark and eBay! I hope you enjoy it! xo Lori
I really like the vintage J. Crew yellow sweater! It has a varsity look to it and varsity jackets are very in right now. I think a woman might be very happy with although it’s labeled a men’s.
I lived in Ct for 45 yrs now in Florida.. very expensive savers and goodwills in Ct but there a good GW outlet in Hamden Ct…but Lori the GW outlet in Queens Ny is worth a visit.. years ago it was great…miss Ct , a beautiful state.
We have 6% sales tax here in Michigan! Some thrift store prices are out of control. You could never look anything but lovely, Lori!! You are gorgeous, even without your mascara!!! Hugs from Michigan! ❤️🥰
😢That’s my Savers when visiting family in CT! There’s a good consignment store, Uptown Consignment, not far from Savers. Uptown Consignment is in South Windsor and has upper end items at good prices. I grew up in CT and have thrifted forever at various places ( always in & out of business). Live in Florida now and love estate sales.
Lori you came to my state, nice to see you. Hartford and the 95 corridor is crazy traffic and yes we have taxes on clothing. The taxation here is cray cray....glad you found some good finds. Love those bags. Safe travels into NYC and hope you get there before its too late with all of the traffic. Thanks for sharing.....maybe next time you will be in the Fairfield County area (South of New Haven) and can thrift here on coast. We have some real high end stores.
Hmm. I’ve been reselling since 1997 when eBay was Auction Web. Things always change every few years. I just keep on keeping on. That’s all you can do really. As for so many people hopping on the reselling bandwagon I think about how many people give up and find it’s not for them. Reselling will never go away. People have been trading for hundreds of years
I was just in the Berkshire’s visiting family last week, all the way from CA. My aunt works in upper management for Goodwill. She took me to about 5 different Goodwill locations across the Berkshire’s. I was glad I brought a big suitcase with room to spare!! Lots of great finds! We drove to the outskirts of Hartford and I thought Connecticut was just lovely, especially with the last of the changing leaves 🍁.
I"m from West Hartford and would have loved bumping into you. That would have been hilarious. Don't ever waste your time on that Salvation Army in Hartford. It absolutely sucks. Old items and priced super high. It's like all items that come from dead old people and children's clothes from Walmart with holes. Salvation Army in our area gets Zara donations, but they price them way too high, about half off full retail price. The Savers on the Berlin Turnpike in Newington and the Goodwill in Wethersfield & Glastonbury are worth a try if you're in the area again.
I went to GW yesterday in the Portland Oregon area and their skinny Madewell jeans were $19.99, straight leg or boyfriend styles at 29.99, Madewell overalls for $49.99, an Eileen Fisher jacket for $29.99, Sorel sandals for 24.99, Sorel boots for $59.99 and some Frye boots for $69.99. Insane.
That sounds about right. I live in Portland as well & I find better prices at Nordstrom’s Rack than I do at Goodwill. Goodwill has literally lost their minds in our area!! xo
I live in Portland and NEVER go to the Goodwills here, they are out of their minds with pricing! Value Village with a coupon or any of a number of small independent thrift stores are much better. I've even stopped donating to Goodwill because of the grift.
Thank you for sharing! The Kaminski bags are a great new BOLO to look out for! The prices at thrift stores in my area are astronomical. My average coat of goods is $11. The only discount that I get is a senior discount 1day/week for 15% off. I love the convenience of thrift stores but I’m going to concentrate on more yard sales in 2024. I’ve given a few thrifted gifts at Christmas. I’m always worried that my relatives may be offended that the items are not new.
lol I used to live in East Hartford and then moved in Manchester on West Center St right across the street from McDonald’s and shop at the savers you just visited lol. Walmart is in the same plaza. My mom used to call Savers “Sally’s”
Hi Lori! It was so fun to watch a video where I shop all the time! I am a (young) senior😂, so I am quite often there on Tuesdays. I agree the thrift store prices in general have gone up quite a bit, but if you search, u can still find good deals. I bought a pair of very nice men’s used Hoka One One a couple weeks ago… paid 18.99 (minus 30%)… they sold for $75 in 2 days on eBay! I’ll take that all day long! Just FYI, the other Savers is on the Berlin Turnpike in Newington. Thanks again for the fun video!
I worked at a boutique years ago and we sold Helen Kaminski hats. I’ve found her hats a couple of times thrifting. Not fun to ship but worth a pick up.
I live within 2 miles of both of these places and for sure both are super high priced. It’s usually worth it to drive to get better deals at other locations. All those high priced items at goodwill unfortunately will end up at the bins near New Haven in 4-5 weeks. But both locations do get a ton of donations, there is always a line to drop off nonstop so their stock is plentiful.
The crochet bags are great . I’ve been looking for one of her summer hats they pack nicely. She has been making summer accessories for awhile and they have always been higher priced . The prices in northwest thrift stores have really increased and any name brands start at 19.99 and go up from there.
Great video! I love a good car haul! $10 for a personal deal on a swiftly tech is a good deal especially since they still make them but I agree, that is pricy for a thrift store T-shirt. One of our goodwills hired a price researcher to price up brands in the back… it’s made it difficult but I am smarter so there are things that slip through. I learned about Kiminski a couple of years ago but have never found it. When I see a straw hat I hope it’s one of her pieces but it hasn’t been yet. Lack of Color is also another good straw hat brand. Fun video!
I'm definitely more selective when I source, but I find that thrift stores still miss good stuff, and I can still find profitable items. I have also switched up how I source, not just relying on thrift stores.
Hey Lori! Great to see this video. I know those stores. I go to them when in that area, In fact was down there earlier this week, I do not know when you there at Savers but I was there. I have not been to that GW in a while but usually find some unique things. I do not thrift clothing anymore, it is cheaper to go to TJ or even Macys sometimes and they, like you said are brand new items. There is another consignment store around the corner from Target in the same plaza but can be pricey. Let us know when you will be back in the area. Now you can say you experienced Hartford traffic lol!
I found the same Madewell The Alicia Mule in Snake Embossed Leather for $8.49 last week ay my Savers in Chicagoland! I have a Helen Kaminski Leather Butterfly bucket hat in my Poshmark closet. Comps are great but it hasn't gotten a lot of interest.
I do much better buying stuff NWT on clearance at retail stores then I do at thrifts and they have a return policy if they do not fit me the way I like ... no way am I getting naked in stores
I think it’s unrealistic for you to ask to hold items. Can you imagine how many people never come back and keeping track of hold items would be a nightmare. Just my opinion
