Actually it's the other way round we have Aldi Sud in the UK America does as well, and some other European countries. They basically split Germany in two with one brother having stores only in the North of the country and the other operating in the south of the country. Google aldi nord and aldi sud. Also in America aldi nord own trader Joe's, so America is the only place outside of Germany to have both versions. Aldi sud is blue background on the "A"logo and nord is white background on the "A" logo en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aldi

I think the staff are store dependant as my local one, the staff are great, but you're right about the stock, i see new things coming out but they hardly ever have it in.
