I spent the day on Mother's Day with my Son at the Flea Market and I found an antique doll! She is so sweet and we had to rescue her. Lets learn about her together. I will need to research how to repair her kid leather body and restore her to her original beauty. What a lovely little antique doll!

I also made a porcelain doll in 1991. She is a Hillary face mold by Diana Effner. Right before Christmas I broke her face trying to restring her. I was able to find a replacement on ebay that resembled the one I made so many years ago. I also have one antique doll that belonged to my grandmother. I just love dolls.

Thank you for commenting. I’m so sorry you accidentally broke the doll head that you made. How sad. Good thing you were able to find a suitable replacement. Welcome to my channel! 😄

Cheryl, I've never seen a doll with sawdust inside. This was very interesting. It is so amazing how her dress is in such good condition. I'll be interested to see what you are able to do with her. :) Thanks for sharing!

Beth, these antique dolls are often filled with sawdust. I now believe the dress is a reproduction of an antique fashion. This is why it looks in better condition than the doll. I can't wait to fix her up and display her!

Congratulations on finding such a wonderful doll! I acquired a 24 inch Floradora doll a few months ago, and I adore her. According to Google, she was made from 1905 to 1920, and in many sizes. She was a more affordable doll at the time, and they lots of them. She is a fairly common find, and usually affordable, I think I paid $35 for mine from eBay. Floradora is a great option, for someone who wants a true antique but can't afford to pay a fortune. Your doll's dress is beautiful and well made, but I don't think it's original. I think it's a reproduction of a dress for antique French dolls. I hope you enjoy your Floradora as much as I enjoy mine 😊❤🕊️

Thank you for sharing about your Floradora doll. I have since realized that her dress is a reproduction as it seems much newer than the rest of her. I am pleased to have some antique dolls in my collection that I can afford. One day I would love a real French Bebe by Bru or Jumeau. 🙏💕

Congratulations on such a beautiful AM find! From the video I think her wig and hat (!) are originals. I would also guess her dress is a reproduction but it doesn't matter because it is GORGEOUS. Meticulously made and possibly out of silk? So...to patch her up you'll need an old leather glove (important), pinking shears, and "tacky" glue. I bet the woman who did restorations for Rachel Hoffman has a video on it? I have one antique restoration video but her body wasn't leather. Let me know if you have questions...I've restored quite a few in her condition. Looking forward to seeing her restored! 💗💗💗

@CherishedDollFriends Welcome! Happy to help. I wish I had more than just one antique restoration video. But I'm sure there are some good ones out there. Thanks for sharing such a great find. So fun to watch!

You've definitely gotten a diamond in the rough there! I'm so glad you're going to try and restore her. Maybe you can replace the lost stuffing in arms with cotton wool? And leather patch repair for the torso? Looks like she was taped at some point, that might work as well. She does have a sweet face and beautiful costume! I have a 20" Marseille that I got for $10, but mine had no clothes, no wig. and her body is wood and composition rather than stuffed leather. I'm on the hunt for an antique doll costume, right now she's wearing baby clothes, haha

Hi Lora, thanks for your comments. I will definitely be looking for tips on how to fix her up! I look forward to the challenge. I loved seeing some of your antique dolls in your video. ☺️

Oh wow, that’s a very old doll. It was normal in the late 1800’s and early 1900’s to stuff dolls with sawdust. They called them “composition” dolls.

Congratulations! Floradora is her name. The outfit does not look old...more likely someone had her redressed (note the modern snaps). Her hair looks like human hair.

Hello and thank you for commenting! I have learned from other viewers as well that her outfit is likely a new reproduction and that her hair is human hair. Thank you so much. It has been fun learning about her. Thanks for visiting my channel!

What a hauntingly lovely face! Did they fill her with sawdust to weight her and make her feel like a real child? I was listening for you to mention how heavy she is but I must’ve missed it. How much do you think she weighs?
@CherishedDollFriends
@CherishedDollFriends Месяц назад
Hi Blaine. I actually haven’t weighed her. She’s too fragile to move too much right now. The sawdust was used as stuffiing in these antique dolls. The whole body and limbs are stuffed with sawdust. She is very haunting. I bet she has some stories to tell. 😉

She has a gorgeous and probably expensive reproduction dress, and a human hair wig. The dress alone was worth the $35! She will be beautiful when you're done with her! Find an old kid glove to make patches with.

No earrings because she's German not french and it looks like a human hair wig xxxx also if you buy some kid leather gloves you can cut a piece to fix the tear in her leg xxxx

Oh thank you for this information. I appreciate it! I am still learning about these dolls. I wondered if the hair might be human hair. I hope to get some kid gloves to fix her up soon.

I have my grandmother’s circa 1906 doll. She was absolutely loved to death! She has no clothes & her hair is a disaster. She has a porcelain face & leather body I believe. I don’t have the interest or knowledge to restore her. Are you interested in?
