In the American West, there lies a region laden with prehistory and fascinating archaeology. This region, known as the Four Corners, was the epicenter of ancient native American life centuries ago. But the history of the ancients spans well beyond the four corners with thousands of archaeological sites scattered around its peripheries. Amongst these outlying areas, there is a specific subregion that is known for an extremely distinct, yet rare style of Native American rock imagery. A style that from the moment I saw it, caught my eye. And ever since I have been fixated on it. Amid an in-depth research tangent on this rock image style, I discovered a particular pictograph panel, tucked away in an impressive canyon. I knew right away that I would need to see it for myself, so I linked up with my buddy Colin, and we headed into the desert to see if we could track down these ancient messages. What we didn’t realize at the time though, was how difficult navigating this canyon would be.
